Description

Guests' quotes: "Beautiful property in fantastic location" "Luxury villa in a beautiful village" "A glimpse of paradise on earth!"

Casa Convento provides an exceptional standard of comfort, style and character which we feel will make your holiday a '5-star' event! It has been designed, built and furnished by the owner, Suzanne, using the very best 'ingredients'.

Both the very large en suite bedrooms are of equal luxury and beauty so no need to quarrel over who has the 'master' bedroom! The beds can be split into singles as required. The beds are super comfortable Danish made and there are blackout lined silk and linen curtains. All towels and beach towels are provided, as well as robes and spa slippers (not always new - we're not a hotel!)

The bathrooms have power showers and double basins. Heated towel rails. Hairdryers are provided.

There is also a separate utility and shower room.

The open plan living space on the 2nd floor is stunning, with fantastic views from the dining terrace over the village and hills to the sea beyond. (In winter months the Riff mountains of Morocco can be seen at dusk). There is a built in BBQ and a pyramid gas heater for chilly evenings.

The living room also has a sofa bed for occasional extra guests.

There is a log burner for winter evenings which heats the whole room in 15 minutes.

The kitchen is fully equipped with lots of gadgets and plenty of utensils and dishes etc.

There is a cargo lift to bring up the shopping, logs, drinks.

Up the spiral staircase on one side of the room is the large sun terrace, with comfortable loungers and privacy/shade screening. There's also a hot and cold shower. The views from here are the best in the village!

The National park is right behind the house.

Our small, private pool complete with water spout, is now solar heated (heat dependent on amount of sunshine) and sits in its own 'Moroccan' patio.

Casa Convento has the advantage of being part of the delightful 'pueblo blanco' of Canillas de Aceituno, while maintaining its own intimate atmosphere and privacy. CHANGEOVER SATURDAY ONLY DURING HIGH SEASON BUT ENQUIRE FOR AVAILABILITY IN LOW SEASON. FREE WI-FI ACCESS. SORRY - NO KIDS UNDER 10. NOT SUITABLE FOR INFIRM.THIS IS A N0N-SMOKING PROPERTY.

The National Park is immediately at its back with the panorama over the village and hills to Lake Vinuela and the sea below. A perfect hideaway for walking, reading, swimming, relaxing, or take a 2 minute stroll down to to the village for a 'fino' sherry and tapas or an authentically regional meal at one of its good-value Spanish restaurants, or pack the in-house picnic knapsack and head up one of the hill paths. But the beaches, international shopping, night-life and golf courses are only 25 minutes away...

Location description from owner

The Costa del Sol region

Only a short drive away from the vibrant lifestyle of the Costa del Sol coast brings you to the peace and spectacular scenery of a more traditional Spain and its more leisurely way of life, where dazzling white-washed villages cling to the hillsides and summits and the sights and scenery will enchant you throughout the year.

At the eastern end of The Costa del Sol, between Malaga and Nerja and up in the hills behind lies the Axarquia region with its sub-tropical temperatures with a reputation for the best climate in Europe. Steeped in history having been ruled by both the Romans and the Moors, it has much to offer for exploration and sense-of-place from the plethora of traditional villages to the magical formations within the Nerja caves.

Malaga itself has a beautiful historical centre, with very good shopping, while Antequera and Granada are within exploring range.

Canillas de Aceituno

Although only 20 minutes beautiful driving from the coast into the foothills of the Sierra Tejeda National Park, Canillas de Aceituno is a world apart from the It retains all the sights, sounds, scents and spirit of traditional Andalucian life - potted flowers decorate the narrow side-streets, mules and goats pass by studiously ignoring humanity, the fish-delivery man calls out his wares, the village ladies practice their graceful flamenco in the evening cool. From here you can walk, paint, photograph, bird-watch, picnic, listen to the cicadas, drink the local wine, sample the village speciality - the famous fennel-scented 'morcilla' sausage, in whose honour there is a village fiesta in April. Or simply enjoy the tranquility and comfort of Casa Convento. Choose your preferred venue - full-on rooftop sun, lunch-with-a view in the shade of the third-floor terrace, or salute the sunset with a cold glass of 'fino' while the shrilling young house martins put on a spectacular flying display for you.

The main 4-day village festival is in August when the whole population turns out in style; - in fact, there are many other village fiestas during the summer months, and local town/village markets every day of the week year round. Velez-Malaga is well worth exploring, especially its older, higher streets, and nearer the coast there is a Water Park, Go-karting, 2 golf courses, masses of chiringuitos (beach bars usually with sun loungers) and a large shopping centre/supermarket, El Ingenio. However, do please try out your Spanish in the village's fascinating little shops and on the streets, where everyone greets each other, friend or stranger.

“A very beautiful and romantic house and place”

Reviewed 19 Mar 2017

We loved Casa Convento and Canillas de Aceitunos from the first moment. Although it was early in the year, we had a very god time in the house and likely temperatures on most days. The house has everything we needed, a beautiful view downtown to the white village Canillas de Aceitunos, to the mountains and to the Mediterranean Sea. The village is a quiet place with relaxed and friendly people. Only little family shops, no commerce to find. It feels a little bit like the time is frozen there and the people are living without smartphones, Internet and every other unimportant time spamming things.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your lovely words and I am delighted that your stay was enjoyable; you have been super guests and I have enjoyed our inter-communication. Best wishes, Suzanne

“Simply stunning”

Reviewed 27 Sep 2016

Casa Convento is a stunning property in a stunning location. The house is contemporary, spotlessly clean, with everything you could need for a relaxing holiday. The roof terrace is the perfect place for a spot of sunbathing, while the very private pool offers a welcome chance to cool off. We loved sitting on the dining terrace with a glass or two of wine watching the sun set over the mountains. Absolute heaven. Canillas de Aceituno has a great choice of bars and restaurants and a host of friendly people. Suzanne made the whole booking process very easy and the information she provided was invaluable. We'd highly recommend it.

Owner's reply: Very good to hear that Casa Convento and lovely Canillas hit the spot for you. We hope you will visit again sometime - and 'forward' others in our direction! Suzanne

“Super hill side retreat, overlooking the white village below”

Reviewed 29 Aug 2016

This property is beautifully equipped, well designed and comfortable, the pool was really clean, private and warm. Eating on the terrace overlooking the village was amazing. The bar-b-q was well located on the balcony and was really well designed. The beds were really comfortable and the rooms really large. The beautiful pictures and decoration reflects Suzanne's talent! Communication and support was perfect throughout. Highly recommended house and location.

Owner's reply: Thank you so much for lovely words; so good to know that our guests enjoyed themselves and all that Casa Convento and beautiful Canillas has to offer.

“Stunning view from a lovely house”

Reviewed 2 Aug 2016

The house lived up to the owners description and all the other excellent reviews. It was well maintained, especially the swimming pool! The air conditioning in our bedroom was much appreciated during the night! Sonia and Ian, the English couple who maintain the house, only live a couple of doors away and were helpful and easy to get hold of. The booking procedure was also very easy with Suzanne, the owner, replying to any questions without hesitation. We only wanted to 'chill out' this holiday, rather than doing sight-seeing, so we pre-booked a taxi from airportcitytransfer.com. The taxi met us at Malaga Airport and picked us - on time for both and was a total of 128 euros for the two trips. We had a lovely time in this very friendly village, in the very pretty house with the studding views! Thank you.

Owner's reply: So happy that all was good for you at Casa Convento and you were able to get the "sense of place" and relax....Just as it should be! Suzanne

“Fantastic Villa and Location”

Reviewed 21 Jun 2016

We would recommend Casa Convento to all Once you find your way to the beautiful hillside town of Canillas and up the road to the villa perched near the top affording a stunning view - it is just amazing - what a truly memorable holiday. The villa is very comfortable and clean with massive beds you sink into, every comfort is thought of and provided. Terraces for sunbathing, long lunches, late drinks, walks into the town for coffee at the Angel Bar are a must, and evening meals where your spanish is really tested - what could be better.

Owner's reply: I am delighted to hear that Casa Convento and our lovely village gave you so much pleasure. Thank you for your kind words and we hope you may visit again. Suzanne

“Beautifully furnished villa in lovely village”

Reviewed 18 Jun 2013

Spent a very relaxing week in this stunning spot. Gorgeous views, a friendly yet non touristy village but the biggest pleasure is Casa Convento itself. Suzanne has provided everything you might need for a fantastic holiday - tasteful, high quality furnishings which make this a real home from home. Beautifully thought through and would highly recommend.

“Fantastic house in a spectacular location”

Reviewed 29 Oct 2012

Casa Convento is a wonderful home in a stunning location. It is luxurious, spacious and comfortable, with every detail well thought out. The views are spectacular, in one direction you can see the sea, in the other the mountains. The village has every amenity you could wish for, and there is plenty of sightseeing available in the area. We cannot recommend this fantastic property highly enough!

“Summer sun in Spain, in a stunning area”

Reviewed 24 Sep 2012

We (2 adults & 2 children - older) spent a very relaxing week in this villa. The villa is really well designed and has everything we needed. We particularly enjoyed the balcony with built in barbecue - gorgeous view from here across the village and the mountain ranges - and the dumb waiter to bring shopping up from the ground floor. Be wary of using appliances such as the air conditioning. The villa was well maintained and clean, and managed by a very friendly couple a few doors down. The owner was very helpful and friendly and provided lots of information and good customer service. The area is fantastic - some amazing views from the balcony - and we did a lot of sightseeing (car is a must), to Granada, Tangier, Gibraltor and some lovely Spanish towns (Frigiliana etc) nearby, as well as a couple of trips to the beach, and a walk to the national park. There really is a lot to offer in this area and one week was way too short, but knowing now how comfortable and well appointed the villa is, we would not hesitate to stay longer if we re-visited. We enjoyed a delicious meal out at The Garden restaurant in Frigiliana and found a fantastic ice-cream place in Nerja. Also some great bakeries in Torre del Mar. We have already recommended the villa to friends.

“Excellent”

The house is to a high standard. The artistic touches & decoration really set it apart. Very nice village yet easy reach of the coast & motorway. Excellent. Ken & Linda
