Location description from owner

The Asturias region

Casa Llenín is a completely renovated farmhouse in the northern province Asturias in Spain. The house is situated on the southern face of a hill, facing the majestic peaks of Picos de Europa. Being the last house on the edge of rural village Llenín, it is almost completely surrounded by woods and meadows. The house has a large garden area, a paved terras and an orchard.

The base of the house is over 200 year old, originally starting off as a cattle barn. It has been expanded over the years. Now it has been renovated and modernized into its current shape and color. The last rebuilt combined the old and the new in such a way that it offers a cozy comfortable house without compromising its ancient specific character.

Cangas de Onis

Llenín is hidden away in the foothills of the Picos de Europa. From the village you have clear views at the woods, the hills, valleys and the high peaks of the Peña Santa María. Along the adjacent road flows the stream Piedrafita with its soothing sound. This is a rural area where cow and sheep herds roam free through the valleys. The region is familiar for its beef, cheeses and homemade apple cider and you may find the locals willing to show you their crafts.

From the house you step onto various hiking trails leading straight into the mountains. National Park Picos de Europa is very well knows for its beautiful hiking paths and rich wildlife. An abundant variety of animals have their habitat here, such as foxes, boars, deer, hedgehogs, weasels and various birds of prey. Even wolfs and bear, but they never show themselves.

The coast with beautiful beaches is also not far away. Asturias has 200 beaches to choose from and the nearest is about 25 km, due to the curvy roads through the mountains. There are larger beaches that offer amenities for parking and comfort, and there are secluded, almost private beaches, to be found. Most of all the beach locations are simply breathtaking spots.

Mestas de Con at 1.5 km is the first place to find groceries. Casa Luís has a small storefront (incl. bar) but has almost everything in store you may need; from bread, to socks to camping gas. Just ask!

Cangas de Onís is at 9 km away the first place of significance. It is a lively and touristy town, that happend to be the first capital of Spain after the Moors were defeated in the Picos de Europa (at Covadonga). Because Cangas de Onís plays such an important role in Spanish history many people come to visit, particularly during the summer months. This means you will never have to look far for things to do, for shopping, or for good food. Don't miss the Sunday market at the ancient Plaza de Mercado!

Other places worth visiting are the fishing villages Llanes, Ribadesella, Llastres and San Vicente de Barquera. Mountain villages: Covadonga, Bulnes, Cabrales, Potes, Soto de Sajambre. Cities: Santander, Oviedo, Gijon, Bilbao and León.

“Een heel prettig huis vlakbij de Picos de Europa”

Reviewed 29 Dec 2014

We zijn een week in dit huis geweest. Goede slaapgelegenheid en een keuken die van alle gemakken is voorzien. Sanitair is ook prima in orde. We hadden wat moeite met de houtkachel maar toen dat eenmaal was gelukt hadden we niets meer te wensen. Maar het ging ons vooral om de ligging midden in Asturië en het uitzicht over de Picos de Europa.

“A fantastis stay in Casa Llenin, we had a wonderfull vacation!”
