In our catalogue since 2000, Mas Dalt occupies a privileged hillside position just above the historic lakeside town of Banyoles, with majestic views over the coastal plain of the central Costa Brava. Highlights include a 120 m2 living/playroom with table football and ping pong - perfect for large indoor gatherings, and a gorgeous 100 m2 outdoor dining terrace seating 50+ with great views just above the 12x5m fenced swimming pool. Feedback from past guests is excellent! Our 30 testimonial emails are in our website and I can send them to you.

1 km walk from this house is Can Tapies, a 12 bedroom house with beds for over 30px, same owners. Sometimes the two are rented together for large gatherings such as weddings or corporate brain-storming events in the off-season.

I have been working with the owners of Mas Dalt since 1998. At first they offered 2 separate large apartments that they would rent out to different groups, but in 2004 the owners decided to restore an old stone building next to the huge mansion and put in a new pool. The idea behind the enlargement was to have a very large property which is comfortable for large groups or several families who want to be together but not necessarily crammed into one house. Each living quarters here is fully independent of the rest, with full kitchen (including dishwasher & washing machine) and dining/living room (including TV & stereo), and each apartment has its own outdoor seating & BBQ area. However, the 10 bedroom part of the main house has a huge living room (about 120 m2) and a large dining room where everyone in all three apartments can have indoor meals together. Outdoors there are two places all guests can have meals together: the very handsome 130 m2 covered wooden-beamed terrace overlooking the pool, and well as a porch under stone arches with BBQ and picnic benches, both beautifully lit for outdoor meals, day and night.

The owners have had the private road up to Mas Dalt paved recently. From there, the unpaved road continues across the hillside to the owner's other house, 12 bedroom Can Tapies. The unpaved road passes 12thC church of Santa Maria de Camós, where some guests have had religious ceremonies while celebrating their weddings at Mas Dalt.

You may have noticed that the bed distribution description above adds up to beds for 43 guests: 13 double beds, 17 single beds, and this doesn't even take into account the cots for babies and a couple of fold outs kept in the huge living room upstairs.....

Here are the stats on the good-sized kidney-shaped pool: 70 m3, over 70,000 liters of water! Roman steps, gradually deepening, good for kids The pool is fenced for child-safety and there are 14 lounge chairs, a couple of different tables and chairs under parasols & there is a poolside bathroom with shower. In front of the main house is a large sloping lawn about half the size of a regulation football pitch with goalposts on each side.

Again there is no room here for a long room by room description. Our website has that and I can sent it to you, along with a link to a 4 minute long movie on this house.

Oh, one more thing. The owners employ three local ladies to clean the house between rentals and these ladies also offer to come in and shop and cook and clean for guests at very reasonable rates: 12 Euros per hour. That is an amazing deal and cuts the cost of catering or hiring a chef to almost nothing. The food is fantastic: traditional Catalan cuisine. I recommend you give them plenty of work. Location description from owner

The Catalonia region

What can one say about the Costa Brava? Often considered a blend of the Côte d'Azur & Tuscany but with a Spanish flair for fun, the Costa Brava is rightfully famous as one of Europe's premiere holiday destinations. Why?From the breathtakingly beautiful coastline, where wide beaches of golden sand and crystal clear waters alternate with rocky promentories and little coves backed by sheer cliffs topped with pine and oak forests, the Costa Brava boasts 150 blue-flag, top notch beaches. The interior of the Costa Brava is every bit as stunning as the coast (and far less touristy, of course!), with pristine medieval villages set in typically Mediterranean landscapes on the coastal plain, looking very much like Tuscany, and quickly ascending to typically Alpine landscapes as you work your way up into the Pyrenees, with trout-filled streams feeding environmentally protected lakes - like the one in Banyoles - offering a welcome alternative to the coastal beaches, yet only half an hour away by car. There is always plenty to do. My 90-page guidebook describes 10 routes you can take on daytrips throughout the region. From village to village and including historical sites, recommended beaches, local festivities and folklore, restaurants, market towns, etc -- the guidebook in indispensable for gettting the most of your holiday and steering you clear of the worst tourist-traps in the area. Included are info on the 14 golf courses on the Costa Brava, numerous aquaparks & go-carting circuits, and every town seems to have a horseback-riding club & bicycle rental. ... but of course the main reason for coming to this part of the world is for the good weather, the laid back and friendly local atmosphere, and the excellent and very affordable food and drink. My guidebook explains local dishes, recommends restaurants and cafés, markets and specialty shops, and includes a guide to Spanish wines and cavas. By the way, my favorite local prix fix lunch menus cost about 10 Euros for a 3 or 4 course meal, including wine. While I am being asked to talk about the Costa Brava, most people enjoy a day trip or two to Barcelona, city center is only one hour away by car or local commuter train. Many guests will also make their way to the Port Aventura amusement park, two hours due south, just off the AP-7 highway, just a few kms from the house. Day trips into Southern France are also recommended, the French border is just a 40-minute drive due north. When you book your rental villa with me, I will send you a copy of the Guidebook as a .pdf file.To sum up in one quick phrase, the Province of Girona and Costa Brava is often described as "a quintessentially Mediterranean experience". After only 23 years living here, I couldn't agree more!

Camos

Seventeen quick km up the freeway from Girona is the lakeside town of Banyoles, site of the 1992 Olympic rowing events. (If you're not in a rush to get to the lake, turn off the freeway at the signs for Palol, with its ruined castle and a fortified precinct, on this attractive alternate route to Banyoles.) The lake, with a surface of one square km and 8 km perimeter, is unique in the world in that it is fed by the confluence of two subterranean rivers, where 600 liters of water are pumped in per second. Despite some Olympic-related lakeside development, with new hotels and restaurants much in evidence, Banyoles is an attractive place to visit, with a well-kept old town and shaded footpaths around the lake.Banyoles grew up around a monastery originally founded by Benedictines in 812. Follow Carrer Nou, full of stone mansions, to the Monestir de Sant Esteve at the eastern end of town, still the biggest structure in the old town, with a Gothic retablo of 1437 backing the altar and cloisters containing 12-16C tombs of local Abbots. (Often closed but you can call 57 02 24 to visit.) The streets leading back into the centre of town are full of ancient buildings, including a 12-14C almshouse, Pia Almoina, with a fine 14C cloister, and now site of the Museu Arqueològic Comarcal (350ptas), with its famous jawbone of a pre-Neanderthal man found near the lake), and a good example of 15C industrial architecture, the dye market, la Llotja del Tint, and the 13C church of Santa Maria dels Turers, one of the earliest example of Catalan Gothic with fine stained-glass windows. The Museu Darder d'Història Natural (300ptas) contains the collection of renowned taxidermist Francesc Darder, and the rooms dedicated to Man are controversial, to say the least, for their bizarre collection of human remains. All streets lead to the central Plaça Major, a lovely tree-lined, arcaded square with several cafés and a Wednesday market that had been held here since the eleventh century. The café on the corner with kiddy rides in front, el Café de la Plaça, has delicious sandwiches made with especially soft doughy rolls, named xapata. Ask for a sandwich with the cold-cut of your choice and pa amb tomaquet, which means the bread will be rubbed with tomato and doused with virgin olive oil.

“excellent place and worth a visit”

Reviewed 23 Oct 2013

What impressed us most was the authentic furnishing and decoration of the entire house. Not a single IKEA furniture. ( we did not notice any ;)) A lot of photos was taken of the old fridge in the main kitchen. With the space and 3 kitchens the logistics when preparing food was easy. Very few of the guests went away for dinner but prepared food in the open kitchen or in some of the other kitchens and we had almost all the meals together at the terrace. Mas Dalt is located in a quiet place with a stunning view towards the sea. Convenient located for making trips to Figueres, the Vulcanos, the beach and even day trips to Barcelona. The balcony was really the heart of the house where we had all the meals and where people relaxed with a book, playing cards or drinking a glass of cava and enjoying the scenery. The teenagers played table tennis almost none stop and the swimming pool was visited often. Even though we stayed there as a big group we felt there were plenty of space and room for everybody. The house is very quirky in a positive way with its many rooms, stairs and different levels. We can warmly recommend Mas Dalt to people who are looking for a big place to celebrate or just arrange a holiday for family and friends.

“Perfect for large groups!”

Reviewed 12 Sep 2011

We stayed at Mas Dalt for a week in July 2011, there were 31 of us and we still had 2 empty bedrooms! Its a comfortable well equiped house, it's not fussy with precious antiques, you can relax here. The owners were helpful and polite. The only possible downside is that you cannot have "noise" here after midnight, which can be a litttle difficult with large numbers of guests, we play accoustic quitar and sing without amps or any electric equipment and still it was an issue, which surprised us as the house is in the middle of nowhere, but bylaws have to be observed! This is better than being in a area surrounded by thumping music so all in all I would recommend this house for a peaceful holiday. Just go inside after midnight. The pool is lovely, really comfy beds with nice linen and towels, there are mosquito nets on all the windows and there are 3 kitchens which make catering for large numbers easy. We loved this property, the lake at Banyoles is lovely, Girona is a gorgeous town, well worth a visit. With large groups it can be a very economical way to holiday in total comfort!

Thank you so much for that lovely and thoughtful review of Mas Dalt. Just to reassure everyone, there is no midnight noise curfew, and many of our guests enjoy using the pool and other outdoor areas at night - it gets dark very late here in summer! - but we also hope our guests can enjoy a peaceful and tranquil stay in the quiet surroundings.
