The house is huge and each apartment is very generously proportioned, with full kitchen, a large living/dining room, big bedrooms, private terraces, and each flat set well apart from one another for privacy. There is a new 100m2 playroom with billiard, ping pong, and babyfoot. The 12x5m swimming pool is set in an olive grove just below the house and next to a football pitch with goalposts. The views out over the coastal plain are fantastic! Great for larger groups but priced for smaller groups who might just want a little extra space! Free WIFI internet. Excellent catering/cook service available, €12 per cook per hour. Indoor & outdoor dining areas for all guests seated together.

The house: the wide driveway leads to the esplanade in front of the house, where there are a couple of outdoor covered sitting/dining areas, including a magnificent kiosk overlooking the pool, with great views from the French Pyrenees in the distance down to the Mediterranean coastal plain. Below stone arches is the main bbq area, seating 30+.

The main entrance to the house consists of a series of stone hallways leading to the different apartments, all quite atmospheric and the walls have ancient farm implements on display. From this downstairs hall there is a door leading to the new playroom, where the garage was, and three separate stairways going up into the three different apartments.

Apartment 1, with 5 bedrooms: a rather grand flagstone staircase with wrought-iron balustrade opens onto a impressive medieval-looking banquet hall of 80m2 seating up to about 30 guests.

Back to Apartment 1, in this same 80m2 space, there is a nice sitting area with several leather sofas and easy chairs, and beyond that large terrace, partly covered, overlooking the driveway and pool areas below. Once again the views are spectacular. There is a separate walk-in kitchen with normal sized refrigerator, dishwasher, and a breakfast table.. There is also direct access to another beautiful terrace from the kitchen, with beautiful wooden beams.

This apartment has 5 en suite bedrooms:

• bedroom 1) very large with one double bed (150x190cm) and two single beds (90x190cm) and private bathroom with bathtub

• bedroom 2) also large with one double bed (150x190cm) and two single beds (90x190cm) and private bathroom with shower

• bedroom 3) with double bed (150x190cm) and private bathroom with shower

• bedroom 4) with double bed (150x190cm) and private bathroom with shower

• bedroom 5) with double bed (150x190cm) and private bathroom with shower

Apartment 2, 3 bedrooms: is orientated towards the back of the house, and has a large flagstone private terrace with bbq you can see in one of the photos. This flat has a large kitchen/dining/living room with a fireplace and TV and the dining room table here seats 10 guests. The kitchen here has a normal sized fridge and a dishwasher. The 3 bedrooms here are all en suite, with private bathrooms:

• bedroom 6) very large with a double bed (150x190cm) and 2 single beds (90x190cm) and private bathroom with bathtub

• bedroom 7) large with 2 double beds (150x190cm) and bathroom with shower stall

• bedroom 8) large with 2 double beds (135x190cm) and bathroom with shower stall

Apartment 3, 4 bedrooms: on the same floor but with a separate entrance from Apartment 1 is the 4 bedroom apartment, which also has a central dining/living room with a dining room table seating about 10 or so, the living room with fireplace and TV and exit to the main terrace, and a separate kitchen with a breakfast table for 6, with large refrigerator and dishwasher. This 4 bedroom apartment was originally conceived as the caretaker´s house and so the owners only put one bathroom in, but it is a large bathroom, separated into two parts, the bathroom door opening onto a anteroom with a large sink, and beyond that, another door leading to the toilet and the shower stall.

• bedroom 9) with double bed (150x190cm)

• bedroom 10) with double bed (150x190cm)

• bedroom 11) with two single beds (90x190cm)

• bedroom 12) a small room with just one single bed (90x190cm)

So you see, Can Tapies in fact has beds for 35 guests if you filled every bed, not to mention the cots that are available for babies.

Location description from owner

The Catalonia region

What can one say about the Costa Brava?Often considered a blend of the Côte d'Azur & Tuscany but with a Spanish flair for fun, the Costa Brava is rightfully famous as one of Europe's premiere holiday destinations. Why?From the breathtakingly beautiful coastline, where wide beaches of golden sand and crystal clear waters alternate with rocky promentories and little coves backed by sheer cliffs topped with pine and oak forests, the Costa Brava boasts 150 blue-flag, top notch beaches. The interior of the Costa Brava is every bit as stunning as the coast (and far less touristy, of course!), with pristine medieval villages set in typically Mediterranean landscapes on the coastal plain, looking very much like Tuscany, and quickly ascending to typically Alpine landscapes as you work your way up into the Pyrenees, with trout-filled streams feeding environmentally protected lakes - like the one in Banyoles - offering a welcome alternative to the coastal beaches, yet only half an hour away by car. There is always plenty to do. My 90-page guidebook describes 10 routes you can take on daytrips throughout the region. From village to village and including historical sites, recommended beaches, local festivities and folklore, restaurants, market towns, etc -- the guidebook in indispensable for gettting the most of your holiday and steering you clear of the worst tourist-traps in the area. Included are info on the 14 golf courses on the Costa Brava, numerous aquaparks & go-carting circuits, and every town seems to have a horseback-riding club & bicycle rental. ... but of course the main reason for coming to this part of the world is for the good weather, the laid back and friendly local atmosphere, and the excellent and very affordable food and drink. My guidebook explains local dishes, recommends restaurants and cafés, markets and specialty shops, and includes a guide to Spanish wines and cavas. By the way, my favorite local prix fix lunch menus cost about 10 Euros for a 3 or 4 course meal, including wine. While I am being asked to talk about the Costa Brava, most people enjoy a day trip or two to Barcelona, city center is only one hour away by car or local commuter train. Many guests will also make their way to the Port Aventura amusement park, two hours due south, just off the AP-7 highway, just a few kms from the house. Day trips into Southern France are also recommended, the French border is just a 40-minute drive due north. When you book your rental villa with me, I will send you a copy of the Guidebook as a .pdf file.To sum up in one quick phrase, the Province of Girona and Costa Brava is often described as "a quintessentially Mediterranean experience". After only 28 years living here, I couldn'tt agree more!

Camos

This house is situated 2 kms from Camós and 5 kms to Banyoles, on Km 5 on the GIV-5147 road, to be exact. To give you an idea: Between Girona, Costa Brava´s historic capital city, and the elegant medieval lakeside town of Banyoles, there is a 4-lane highway. Running parallel to this highway to the south and hemmed in by the Serra Llonga mountains, is a winding back road with a few nice old stone villages and some renowned local restaurants. Camós, the nearest town to Can Tapies, is about 2 kms away - a 20 minute walk from the house.Banyoles is a market town with a pleasant 12thC old town with lots of museums and historic buildings, surrounded by a newer part of town with a dozen or so supermarkets - it seems everyone is the Pla de L´Estany region does their shopping here. The area is pleasant and well-situated, the environmentally protected lake at Banyoles a exceptional gem, Girona´s old town is a short drive away, and the beaches are only about 25 kms away as the crow flies.

“Amazing”

Reviewed 24 Oct 2013

We had an incredible time for our family reunion. Can Tapas was an amazing place to accommodate all our family, with the three separate apartments creating a sanctuary for the different age groups. We dined every night on the outdoor terrace, talking and chatting until the stars twinkled in the cleat night sky. Magical! The villa provided more than enough space for our energetic five year olds to burn up their energy, and the pool a central gathering place for our whole group of 19. We used the outdoor fireplace to cook a couple of meals, and the covered lookout eating area for one meal. The games room burst into competitive action two or three times per day, and the WiFi kept us in touch with friends and family who were not with us. We loved Banyoles with its enchanting waterfront, boat cruise around the lake, and historic old town. We made one trip to Givorna and had and walked along the historic wall, explored the walled gardens, and had a meal in the historic town with traffic free streets. We ranged in age from 2 to 75, but the villa provided so many retreats, nooks and crannies, there was always a quiet corner to read, or hang out in small groups. The views from the patio' were breathtaking, the history of the Masias oozed from every stone, it was like living in a medieval castle. From the time we arrived, and raced around all the rooms exclaiming with oos and aahs, hugging and laughing as we greeted family not seen for a year or more, till the time we left, with more hugs, as we went our separate ways, it was like a fairy tale dream.

“Fantastic and perfect holiday house!”

Reviewed 13 Dec 2012

Our extended family from the UK and Canada of 24 had a fantastic week at Can Tapies, a huge and wonderful house in Aug 2012. The little kids called it "the castle". This 400 plus year old "villa" was very tastefully restored and extremely well furnished with every comfort and convenience one could hope for to make your stay very enjoyable and relaxing. Most of the bedrooms had lovely, on-suite bathrooms (very clean) and there was plenty of hot water for all. The setting was very quiet and peaceful and totally private with magnificent vistas of the countryside yet it was only a short drive to the local village bakery in the am or to Banyoles for the large supermarkets. Each day and evening we enjoyed the beautiful azor blue tiled pool down below the house and it was lit up like a jewel each night. It was great to have a covered pool seating area plus a restroom right down at the poolside and plenty of comfy sun loungers. Each morning someone came to clean the pool and remove the house garbage from bins outdoors. The owners , who lived only about a Kilometer away, were so kind to escort us to a a few small grocery shops in Banyoles when we suprisingly found the large supermarkets were closed on Sundays. (stock up on Saturday before you move in). We cooked wonderful meals together each night and ate outdoors on a covered terrace (one of 4) off one of the 3 well stocked kitchens. The manager provides very detailed directions and information about the surrounding area and recommends outings. Three of our favourite half day trips were an easy 20 min drive to the medieval village of Besalu; a 1 hour drive directly east to the coast to the Ruins of Empuries, (just north of L'Escala) to see a fantastic small museum and walk through acres Greek and Roman ruins overlooking the stunning Mediteranian beaches (perfect for a swim after); and also a half day drive to Olot west of Banyoles to a beautiful, volanic mountain region. Some in our group did day trips to Barcelona by car. We felt Can Tapies was great value for the summer weekly rate and it was definatley the nicest and grandest accomodation our family has had its reunion at in three previous times in Italy and France. What's there not love about Spanish wine, food, beaches and people? We would most definately stay there again.

“best holiday ever”

Reviewed 13 Nov 2011

We`ve been a large group of families and friends. Our children (age 8 month to 15 years) loved the place and so did we. The place and house is big enough to be together or on your own for a while (if wanted). The pool is a little walk down the hill, which is good for parents with smaler children.
