Description

This excellent Cambridgeshire self catering holiday cottage in a rural setting is perfect both as a weekend retreat but as a comfortable holiday home for visitors in Cambridge on business or for pleasure.

Inside

The Lodge boasts 3 double bedrooms all comfortably appointed, a fully fitted kitchen with dining area and a separate sitting room. The sitting room has a fully functional wood burner with all wood provided! All of the bedrooms are beautifully decorated with solid oak flooring and Egyptian cotton bedding of the highest standard. The kitchen contains all the necessary mod-cons tastefully designed with beech and Cumbrian slate and fitted with a full range of smart crockery, cutlery and glassware. Linen and towels are provided

Although no en-suite facilities are available at the Lodge the bathroom is generously sized and recently refitted with marble flooring, glazed walk-in shower with a pebbled interior and a huge free standing bath.

Outside

Outside there is a heated timber summer house (can sleep 2-4) in the grounds next to a relaxing decking area with comfortable garden furniture and barbeque facilities. The garden of the Lodge was professionally landscaped and is a truly stylish country paradise. In addition the grounds of the Hall are beautiful and include a tennis court, children's play area with sunken trampoline, woodland and a medieval moat. There are resident chickens and peacocks with spring hopefully bringing a return of the other livestock; sheep and pigs!

Barrington Hall is available as a wedding venue and for private dining and corporate events. See www.barringtonhall.co.uk for further details. There is also a thriving gastro pub in the village, The Royal Oak, which dates back to the 1400s! We have negotiated a discount on your dining there, to view the menu and events please visit www.royaloakbarrington.co.uk. They also do amazing take away fish and chips!

Location

The village of Barrington is on the river Cam, 7 miles south-west of Cambridge. We are 6 miles from junction 11 on the M11. Easy accessible from London it is a 45 minute drive north on the M11, and by train takes 45 minutes to nearby Royston or Cambridge.

Surrounding Areas

Barrington is a quintessentially English village, has numerous thatched cottages and timber framed buildings that dot the 20 acre village green, which is over half a mile long and supposedly the longest village green in England.

The historic University City of Cambridge is just a short drive away. Besides the colleges, stunning architecture there are the Botanical Gardens, Fitzwilliam Museum and punting opportunities! Granchester village, poignantly captured by Rupert Brook in his poems is just up the road and offers tea gardens, four pubs and the tranquil water meadows. Also nearby and easily accessible are the National Trust properties of Wimpole Hall and estate and Anglesey Abbey. A little to the south are the Essex villages of Saffron Walden with nearby historic Audley End House.

Barrington is a Parish and village on the river Rhea or Cam 7 miles south-west from Cambridge and about the same distance north-west from Royston. It is easily accessible from London, 45 minutes drive North on the M11, and by train, Kings Cross to Royston or Cambridge takes 45-60 minutes. It is a quintessentially English village with numerous thatched cottages and timber framed buildings dotted around the 30 acre village green, which is over half a mile long and supposedly the longest village green in England. The village boasts a thatched pub built in the 1400s with a superb reputation for food and beer. We have negotiated special rates at The Royal Oak Public House for our guests, just ask when you arrive!

According to the 2001 census it had a population of 904. The village church, All Saints, dates from the 13th century and is built almost entirely from stone.
