The Salty Dog is a three bedroom New England style seaside cottage at Camber Sands, Rye. Just a five minute stroll from the dunes and miles of sandy beach, this modern property is furnished and equipped to a very high standard and holds a 4* Gold Award from Visit Britain. You'll find everything you need for a relaxing, comfortable and fun packed stay.

Enthusiastic cooks will enjoy the spacious and well equipped kitchen/ diner with Le Creuset pans, quality knives, and the BBQ on the large deck. You will find no shortage of fresh local ingredients to fire your culinary imagination, whether it is the salt marsh Romney lamb, fresh fish straight from the boats or locally grown vegetables, award wining wine from a local vineyard, local Kentish cider, apple juice or ale.

The kids (both large and small) will find plenty to keep them amused in the playroom be it table football, toys, DVD's, playstation or just chilling on the sofa with a good book.

A holiday is not a holiday without a good night's sleep. Whether you're visiting for the weekend, a short break or an extended stay you will love our luxurious beds; there are two super-kings and a king-size, all of which can be split into singles. Whatever your choice you can look forward to crisp hotel quality bed linen, fluffy towels and complimentary toiletries. We have also thought carefully about our younger guests, we have bed guards and cots (but more of this later).

The high standard has not gone un-noticed by Visit Britain, who have awarded The Salty Dog Four Stars and a Gold Award for “exceptional levels of quality, comfort and cleanliness in bedrooms and bathrooms, and outstanding levels of customer care”.

Located only a few minutes stroll from breath-taking Camber Sands beach, a beautiful seven mile stretch of golden sands bounded by picturesque dunes, The Salty Dog is the perfect seaside retreat for families and friends. The light and airy layout of the house makes it the ideal home from home, so whatever the weather and whatever the season you can kick back, relax and unwind at The Salty Dog. After a long walk on the beach enjoy a little of what you fancy in the mezzanine lounge with it's own balcony, which boasts luxurious leather arm chairs and sofa, a 40" TV, DVD, DAB radio and iPod dock. The cottage has free wi-fi which is available throughout the house.

In summer, the south-facing and fully enclosed garden comes into it's own. A great place to enjoy barbecuing that fresh fish you bought earlier in the day, or to enjoy a glass of local English wine bought from one of the nearby vineyards. The prefect end to the perfect day!

The sand on the nearby beach is perfect for sandcastles and lagoons left by the receding tide, and often warmed by the sun, are the perfect place for children to splash around. The ideal place to spend your family seaside holiday or short break. Pack up a picnic - you will find a picnic rug, beach chairs, cool box with freezer blocks, thermos, wind-break and beach toys - and head off to the beach for some good old fashioned seaside fun.

As parents ourselves we have been on many self catering holidays and so have a good idea of what makes a holiday with a young family fun, relaxing and stress-free. Genuinely family friendly, The Salty Dog is equipped with travel cots, high chairs, dining booster seats, bed guards, stair gates, steam steriliser, socket covers, baby listening monitor, children's cutlery, plates bowls and beakers, toddler step, potty.... as well plenty of indoor, garden and beach toys. You can fins a full list of what's available on our website The Salty Dog has a Families Welcome Award from Visit Britain.

We can cater easily for twins with two of everything needed and even triplets or quads with a little more notice.

We welcome every member of your family at The Salty Dog and that includes your dogs. Our own springer spaniel, Chloe, has worked hard to ensure that the needs of your canine companions are anything but forgotten. So we know exactly what makes a self-catering holiday with your four-legged friend relaxing and fun. We even have a Visit Britain Dogs Welcome Award. So while you are enjoying your tea, scones and homemade jam your dog can tuck into some complimentary chews and biscuits. We provide dog bowls and a few toys but ask that you bring your dog's own bed and towels. The beach is a short walk away, less than five minutes when being towed by an eager hound, and even in the height summer there are miles of sand to be explored and seagulls to be chased. On the way back you can call in at the local pub, who welcome dogs and offer a selection of real ales and tasty home cooked food. They will even provide a bowl of water for your dog. We also have a Dogs Welcome Award from Visit Britain.

The spacious, open-plan accommodation consists of 3 bedrooms, each with zip-link beds, with en-suite shower room to the main bedroom; family bathroom; lounge; kitchen dining room; children's playroom and WC. The fully enclosed garden is ideal for kids and dogs to play in and any sports equipment can be stored securely in the garage. To the side of the house is an outdoor tap with hose for showering sand off dogs (and kids) after playing on the beach.

The East Sussex region

Sussex with its stunning coastline and beautiful countryside rich in cultural heritage has much to offer the visitor. Easily accessible from mainland Europe via the channel tunnel East Sussex is the ideal destination for a holiday or short break with a true taste of England at its best. Historic Castles, English gardens both traditional and modern, the rolling South Downs, chalk cliffs and sandy beaches, we have it all here in the south east. Whether is is a bucket and spade family beach holiday,a golfing break, an activity holiday or just a relaxing break you are after, you will find it here.

The winds coming off the sea and from the marshes makes Camber Sands a popular destination for water-sports enthusiasts. Kitesurfing, windsurfing, sailing, wake-boarding, water-skiing and jet-skiing are all available locally either from the beach or on a large coastal lake just outside Camber.

The medieval town of Rye with it's cobbled streets and quaint shops is only 3 miles away. This pretty little hilltop town, once the haunt of smugglers, is steeped in history. The cobbled streets are now lined with art galleries, antique shops, artisan food shops, historic inns, restaurants and tea shops. The town also hosts many festivals and special events throughout the year including the famous Rye Bay Scallop Festival each February, the Bonfire Procession each November and a lovely Christmas festival throughout December.

The nearby marshlands of Romney Marsh are ideal for long county walks, bike rides, painting and bird watching. There are country and beach walks straight from the cottage, you will find OS maps, leaflets and books to help you choose, together with a folder of our favourite tried and tested walks. The coastal Sustrans cycle path passes through Camber and you will also find leaflets detailing several other circular cycle routes in the cottage. There is plenty in the area to keep wildlife enthusiasts and birdwatchers busy. The nearby Rye Harbour Nature Reserve and Dungeness RSPB Reserve are home to many different species and many visiting birds too.

The local area also has many interesting castles, historic buildings within a short drive of the cottage including the Bodiam Castle, Hastings Castle and Battle Abbey.

Garden lovers will not be disappointed either as Great Dixter, Pashley Manor and Derek Jarman’s coastal garden are only a short drive away.

You can ride on a steam train, climb a lighthouse or explore caves once used by smugglers. With so much to do in the area it’s no wonder so many of our guests return again and again.

Camber village itself has a couple of nice restaurants including The Gallivant Bistro and Beach Bar, The Dunes Bar and the Ray Bay Cafe. The local pub, The Green Owl, also serves excellent home-cooked meals and a selection of well-kept ales and welcomes children and dogs.

"Excellent stay, lovely house in a great location!"

Upon arrival had a warm welcome from John, who not only showed us the house but also gave some good local information. The house itself is great, really modern with all the applicances you need! Brilliant games room for children (or adults!!) Bedrooms were lovely and all have large beds! Location wise this is great for beach walks and is also in a quiet road but also a very short drive to the town Rye. It's rare to find a house that can accommodate 6 adults and a dog! We all really enjoyed our stay and want to all return in the future! Highly recommend!
