Location description from owner

The Valencian Country region

CalpeAt the heart of the Costa Blanca, within the region of Valencia lies the ancient fishing village of Calpe. Now transformed into a tourist magnet, the town sits in an ideal location, easily accessed by the A7 motorway and the N332 that runs from Valencia to Alicante; its approximately one hour drive from the airport at Alicante.Calpe has a wonderful mixture of old Valencian culture and modern tourist facilities. It is a great base from which to explore the local area or enjoy the many local beaches. Calpe alone has three of the most beautiful sandy beaches on the coast.?HistoryCalpe is a town rich in history and culture and its strategic position on the coast has attracted many voyagers and settlers throughout history. Remains of Iberian tribes have been found around the town. Later, the Romans founded Calpe as a prosperous colony, whose main activity was drying and salting fish.Christians and Moors lived peacefully for a time but were subjected to attacks by pirates during the 14th-17th centuries. The peace of the 18th century enabled Calpe to regenerate and form the current tourist location. The Rock of IfachCalpe is dominated by the towering rock of Ifach which reaches an impressive 332m, rising almost sheer above the sea and is a nature reserve. The summit of the rock is reached after a tough climb up a footpath, by means of a short tunnel through the upper part of the rock. Be warned the path above the tunnel has almost no safety features and is not recommended for anybody with a fear of heights, the very young, or the remotely unfit. It is a genuinely tough and dangerous climb. From the top, magnificent panoramic views can be had. On a clear day, the island of Ibiza is visible.??Sightseeing & CultureWhen it comes to sightseeing, the ancient town centre, next to the Moorish quarter is a good place to start. The old town walls and the church known as Iglesia Vieja are well worth visiting. This church is the only remaining example of Mudejar-Gothic architecture within Valencia.Alongside the modern Paseo Maritimo are the recently discovered remains of a Roman villa, once forming part of the Roman fish factory, known as the Banys de la Reina (Queens Bath).Overlooking the Mascarat ravine are the ruins of the Moorish Castle of Calpe and all over the local countryside are the typical rui-rau country houses, with arched porticos for raisin drying. The town centre is also home to the Museum of Archeology and the Fiestas Museum.Excursions??Calpe has a wonderful modern marina that sits alongside the old fishing port; from here it is possible to take boat rides around the rock and to the nearby resort of Benidorm.

Calpe

One of the best ways to enjoy the local coastline is by means of the narrow gauge railway that runs from Alicante to Denia, stopping at Calpe.Leisure & recreation ?The port has a nautical club and facilities for yachting, windsurfing and water skiing. If its dry-land sports you want then the rock of Ifach offers climbing facilities. ??GolfThe Ifach golf course is situated in Moraira (Benissa) on a country estate. The challenging course offers magnificent views of the sea and mountains. It's a nine holes course and although the holes are quite short, the terrain and the narrow fairways make them tricky and entertaining.Within one hour's drive there are a good selection of golf courses to keep the fans of this Scottish game thoroughly entertained.CuisineCuisine from the Costa Blanca combines delicacies from both land and the Mediterranean Sea. Many civilizations have lived in this area (Celts, Iberians, Greeks, Romans, Muslims), all of which have all left their mark on the gastronomy. The diet is a typically, healthy Mediterranean one; the Costa Blanca is rich in fish, vegetables, olive-oil, rice and fruit and the ingredients which are all used to prepare delicious, healthy dishes, such as Paella Valenciana, Arroz Negro (black rice), Arroz al horno (Oven baked rice), Arroz a banda (fish and rice stew), Arroz del Señoret (Princes rice). If you have a sweet tooth then you will enjoy the local homemade pastries and deserts that the area is famous for. Or Jijona ice-cream (Nougat), which is made with the almonds of the region. While on the Costa Blanca you can delight the palate with the wonderful regional wine selection. It's worth giving a special mention to the local wine 'Jalon', due to its quality and bouquet. There are many international restaurants close by offering a wide choice of different cuisines from around the world.ClimateCalpe enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate, with cool sea breezes in summer and protection by surrounding mountains against the cold North winds in winter. The area averages nearly 3,000 hours of sunshine each year and the average temperature easily exceeds 20 degrees. In 1986 the World Health Organisation recommended the climate of the area as one of the most equitable in the world - neither too hot in the summer nor too cold in the winter. On average it can boast 325 sunny days each year making it an ideal all year round destination

“Relaxing stay in a pleasant location”

Reviewed 8 Mar 2016

The villa was comfortable with great views of Calpe from the balcony. Short drive to the beach, restaurants/bars and supermarkets. Pleased to see Aldi and Lidl! The terraces will be great for when it is a bit warmer with a BBQ area and plenty of seating along with a decent sized pool. There is sky tv and wifi which is useful and air con and heating makes for a pleasant stay any time of the year. The owner is available by phone if any information or assistance is needed. Only downfall for the less able would be the amount of steps to get to the villa.

Thank you for your kind review and glad that you enjoyed your holiday. Hope to have you back again one day. I am glad you made good use of the facilities. Next time you can make even better use of the swimming pool

“Lovely villa, perfectly situated”

Reviewed 10 Feb 2016

We have been travelling out to the Costa Blanca for many years for winter-sun rock-climbing trips. The villa is very well presented internally, and is surrounded by terraced gardens, patios and pool. Great view over Calpe and the Penon. For us, it was really well situated to access both the local climbing, and easy access to the north and south via the nearby autoroute (again, easily accessible). Just about an hours drive from Alicante airport, with easy parking to the front of the property. Kitchen, Shower, Bedrooms and living accom. all clean and comfortable. We have stayed in many properties in the area, and this is the one we will come back to on our next trip. Very good and helpful communication with the owner. Fast wifi, and lts of Sky Channels on big flat-screen tv. Recommended

Thank you very much for your kind words. I look forward to your future visit

“great !”

Views are wonderful ! Almost each room has views over mountains and the far off bay. One can see the glistening sea from the dining table. The villas are grouped on the side of the mountain and there is some comfort in being one of many similar properties. Because of the slope, there isn't any intrusion on views. In the night, one can sometimes hear conversation so it does not feel dreary and isolated. The two storeyed villa has 2 self sufficient apartments - 1 single and the other double. All the villas in this place are on a mountainside so staircases are steep ! There is one convenience store about 5 minutes drive and some places to eat not too far away. The seaside has a number of tapas and café/restaurants. People are very friendly, the sun shines brightly on white mountains -Costa Blanca- and turquoise sea and it is all quite picture perfect.

“One of my best stays”

Reviewed 13 Mar 2013

We had a wonderful experience in this villa. We usually go for being in the town near all the amenities but this year we decided on a quiet, relaxing, stress free holiday & that is exactly what we got. The area is amazing very peaceful yet not to far from bars shops & restaurants. The villa was spectacular, it had all the modern amenities to make your life so comfy, TV with satilitte, Hi Fi & the kitchen was fully equipped with whatever we needed. The villa was clean & refreshing. Having drinks on the amazing terrace looking out over the mountains was to die for. The pool was so clean & refreshing, The gardens next to the pool had the sun all day so to me & my friends was paradise as we are sun worshippers. If you want a peaceful, stress busting holiday - this is where to go. Neil the owner is very helpful and very easy to deal with and at the villa Jesus looks after the pool and the gardens and I can honestly say he is so helpful As others have pointed out, the photos and description are accurate and the property is as described on the website, if we ever go back to Calpe we will definitely book this villa.
