"Wagmuggle" nestles in an undiscovered Cornish valley and is the perfect getaway. Whether fishing, sightseeing or relaxing, Wagmuggle offers a family holiday to remember! A narrow lane leads to the cottage and a four acre wildlife haven surrounds it, with a river and stream and two lakes attracting lots of native birds, deer, foxes and rabbits. We welcome dogs at Wagmuggle and have a fully fenced meadow to keep them secure whilst allowing them to let off steam!
Wagmuggle has been upgraded for 2014 and has three bedrooms: One large family room with king size bed and bunk beds, suitable for children, a double bedroom with an en suite shower room and a twin bedroom. The family bathroom is lovely, with roll top bath and fluffy towels it is perfect for relaxing after a hard days sight seeing!. A wet room with shower and loo gives more facilities on the ground floor. Two sitting rooms and a large kitchen dining room give plenty of space for friends and family.
There are two wood burners, with a basket of logs provided and fallen wood available in the grounds. There is full central heating and free Wi fi at the cottage.
Wagmuggle is an old Copper miner's cottage, built in the 1700's and does have one or two low doorways which add to the character but can also catch out the taller guest! The kitchen and main sitting room have plenty of headroom however, as do the two double bedrooms and the bathroom.
There is plenty of parking available. The nearest shop is approximately 3 miles away and the town of Callington is around 5 miles from Wagmuggle. Waitrose, Tesco and Sainsburys all deliver groceries to the cottage.
In addition, Trewoodloe, a one bedroom cottage next door, may be available by the summer holidays 2014, so if you have a large party, please ask and we will do our best to accommodate you!
Change over day at Wagmuggle and Trewoodloe is FRIDAY......

The Cornwall region
Cornwall is a stunning county, steeped in history and with a beautiful coastline. Inland, the moors and wooded valleys offer walks with fabulous scenery. Cornwall is surrounded by sea on three sides so you are never far from a beach, many of which are dog friendly.
There are many attractions throughout Cornwall, including water sports, National Trust properties, The Eden Project, The Minack Theatre and Carnglaze underground caverns.
Lots of pubs and restaurants serve excellent food - Rick Stein's seafood restaurant and bistro is well worth a visit.
Liskeard is a traditional market town with several independent shops, pubs and restaurants and is about 8 miles from Wagmuggle. Callington is the nearest town, approximately 4 miles from the cottage and has a supermarket and several shops.
There are farm shops locally selling all sorts of produce and our neighbours at Berrio Mill, sell free range eggs and a variety of home made chutneys and mustards.
Close by is "Stert's" outdoor theatre, "The Cheesering" monument and the historic town of Launceston.
Wagmuggle is a great base for exploring Cornwall, but also great for relaxing in the grounds, watching the birds (and there are plenty!) or reading a book.

"Fantastic holiday home in secluded Cornish valley"
We visited Wagmuggle with a group of friends to celebrate a 50th birthday. We could not have chosen a more perfect cottage. Fantastic location in a secluded and sheltered valley, we sat out on the terrace everyday enjoying the sun trap. We loved the grounds, plenty of space for the dogs to run around (and no way for them to get put) plus a walk down to the river past a couple of small lakes (where you can sit and have afternoon tea!). The house itself has been very well renovated with a lot of attention to detail. It is really comfortable and has all the extras that you could want in a holiday cottage. Tastefully furnished and beautifully decorated. We enjoyed visits to nearby Kit Hill as well as a bit further to the south coast as well as the Luxullion valley. We will definitely return for another holiday at Wagmuggle as we enjoyed it very much. Almost forget to mention that it is a wonderful place to watch birds as well as they feed right outside of the house. Perfect!
Thank you for taking the time to review Wagmuggle... We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to welcoming you back any time, Tabitha and Polly

"Tranquil pet friendly retreat"
Service: Friendly, helpful efficient booking service. During our stay the owners were unobtrusive but easily contactable if need be. On arrival the cottage was easily accessible as per the instructions given and clean linen and towels in place. Also provided were some welcome essentials – tea and cake! The setting of this cottage is a haven of tranquillity – no near neighbours, acres of space for children / dogs to explore. Not being in close proximity to the coast, it is situated off the main tourists’ routes, in a beautiful, seemingly forgotten wooded river valley. There are lots of good walks to be found and wildlife abounds. A book of suggested walks in the area would be a good addition to have in the cottage. This is a cottage suited to anyone who is in search of space, peace and quiet and privacy. It has a lot to offer – walking, bird watching, wildlife observing, pond dipping, fishing – just getting away from it all. It’s possible to use this cottage as a base and travel by car to the coast or attractions in both Devon and Cornwall if you choose. However, it was so tranquil and private here and with the acres of space on the doorstep and the warm sunny terrace to sit out on, we kept that to a minimum. The terrace was equipped with a large table and chairs for alfresco dining or just reading the papers. I found these chairs a little uncomfortable, but I borrowed the cushions from the sitting room, which resolved the issue. A sun lounger would be nice out here too. There are shops in Callington and Liskeard, but no shops or pubs that you can stroll down to for essentials or an evening out. I’d advise being organised - if you’re out for the day and want to eat out, do it then or make sure you have plenty of supplies in for when you get back. A lunchtime walk to Rilla Mill found the pub shut on Monday! The cottage was very well equipped, especially in the kitchen and there is a BBQ for guests use – remember to buy in charcoal. If you have dogs, I can’t stress enough how dog friendly this place is, even the name Wagmuggle sounds like a Harry Potter dog. To start with there is lots of secure space for them to run and frolic on the main lawn/field and then further space in the water meadow and woodland meadow. If they are swimmers then they’ll love the river which borders the grounds. Responsible ownership is expected and promoted – poop scoop provided and no chasing the ducklings. There are spare leads and balls and throwers in the laundry room. A dog flap into the entrance lobby, along with a spare smallish dog bed in there, dog bowls and should you need to wash muddy paws you are allowed to use the downstairs wet room for this purpose! There are sheep in the surrounding fields so supervision and control is a must. Wagmuggle has been modernised and blends a mix of old and new. The ensuite in the master-bedroom is bijou but adequate for its purpose. The bunks in the family bedroom are built into an alcove and would only be suitable for younger children. There was a musty smell, which I think is possibly due to the logs stored by the fire places. Another of it’s unique quirks were the photographs on the kitchen walls – black and white, theatrical prints of an actor in something like Louis XVI costumes which I have to say I found quite creepy. It is a quirky property with character and imperfections which make it unique. There is lots to like about this property - arrive with an open mind, don’t expect perfection straight out of a glossy magazine but embrace the rustic and homely, and the wonderful tranquil setting.
We are delighted that you enjoyed your holiday at Wagmuggle so much and took advantage of all the facilities and grounds....Just one thing to note: all the cushions for the outside dining furniture are in the laundry room stacked up out of the weather, so there is no need to take cushions out of the cottage! We don't like to leave too many notices around the place (we feel it makes it less homely) and expect guests to have a good look round to find things for themselves. However, we will make a note of this and include it in the information folder for future guests. Thank you for taking the time to review us, Tabitha and Polly

"The perfect retreat"
Where do I start.......well at the beginning I guess. On arrival we were blown away with the cottage and the grounds it sits perfectly within. Once we unlocked the door and entered the cottage it was a case of taking your breath away, it was just beautiful and presented to perfection, so sympathetic and truly in keeping with the historic character of the cottage. This place is truly amazing, and you know this is the case even when your young children are lost for words. All the rooms were beautiful, with historic building elements randomly on show that just added to the character and feel, just perfect. The living rooms are so appealing each with a large wood burning stove and comfortable seating, and as for the main bathroom and stand alone bath, again ......whaw!!! The wet room is a perfect more modern addition that just works perfectly, and makes so much sense for the little ones, dogs and adults alike. However, the jewel in the Crown is the kitchen, so period feeling, perfectly equipped and a place that 8 just wanted to cook in and be creative, and all enjoyed while sitting at beautiful table in perfect surroundings. The main garden is huge, and the dogs and kids had a riot running about and acting like.....well kids and hyper dogs. And all the time us adults were sitting in the evening sun watching from the terrace area enjoying a hard earned drink. Well it is hard work having fun after all. The property is so dog friendly that I would recommend to anyone who is thinking about taking there beloved pooches with them. Tabitha and Poll clearly love this property, and boy does it show. We would return without question and hopefully we will do just that sooner rather than later. The location is good for a base allowing you to visit nearby towns and visitor attractions, and that is what we done. Overall, I could not rate the property high enough as well as the owners who clearly show the love and attention to detail that makes all the difference. We had a great time and would love to visit again as the whole family. Thank you for playing a major part in making our holiday one to remember for a very, very long time.
Thank you for your very positive review.... You are right - It took a considerable amount of time to renovate Wagmuggle and we took care to retain as many of the original features as we could, whilst making the facilities up to date and luxurious, so that the olde worlde charm is still evident without the drawbacks! We would be delighted to welcome you back to Wagmuggle and thank you again for your review. Tabitha and Polly

"Fantastic Cottage, Fantastic Location, Fantastic Holiday!"
Went with friends and family to celebrate a landmark birthday of my wife's! A good choice as it's one of the nicest holiday cottages I've stayed at. Extremely well equipped throughout, including an Ice maker! The ideal place if you want to enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside. The grounds down to the river are lovely, especially for the dogs who also loved this quiet location. Can't actually think of any negative points, look forward to returning next year!
Thank you for taking the time to review Wagmuggle and we are so glad you enjoyed all that it has to offer....We endeavour to keep everything "top notch" and are really happy that you appreciated it so much. We would love to welcome you back to Wagmuggle any time. Tabitha and Polly

"Beautiful cottage and garden."
We stayed in the Wagmuggle cottage as a party of 7, 4 adults and 3 children. After a long journey it was a nice touch from the owners to have provided tea, coffee, milk and some lovely homemade scones. The cottage is situated in a little village about a 30 minutes drive to Looe. The cottage is well presented, clean and has lots of space. The gardens are fantastic, the bird feeders and the pond with ducks and ducklings kept the children entertained. The pictures do not do this cottage justice. The only problems we found were, not enough coat hangers and no baby gates on the stairs ( unsure if possible due to staircase). Overall it was a fantastic base for our family holiday and we truly enjoyed our stay.
We are so glad you enjoyed your holiday at Wagmuggle and the home made scones! Thank you for your comments. As you quite rightly surmised, the stairs are not very accommodating for a stair gate although we will continue to try and find a suitable one. Thank you for pointing out that there were not many hangers - we have now rectified this and there are now plenty! Thank you again for your review, we do really appreciate your feedback. Such a clean and cosy cottage set in amazing grounds. We all enjoyed the stay and the cottage. Well equipped kitchen and very cosy beds with plenty of space. The big bath tub was lovely. We will recommend this place to everyone we know! Thank you

"Fantastic Cottage in peaceful surroundings, great for families"
Just spent a week at Wagmuggle with my parents, wife and our children. The cottage is finished to a really high standard way above what you would normally expect for a holiday rental. It sleeps 8, there were 7 of us and we found there was plenty of room for everyone. The outside space is fantastic for children to play in, with 3 large fields for them to run around safely in, that are all part of the property. The fields lead onto streams and a river which the kids loved too. It’s an extremely peaceful spot in a very quiet Cornish valley, where (apart from our kids!) the only noises we heard in the morning were bird song. The wood burning stoves at night were great to sit around and enjoy the atmosphere of this lovely old cottage. Lots to explore in the area and not too far from the coast, although we found it hard to leave the tranquil setting of the cottage a lot of the time! Would thoroughly recommend it
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay so much at Wagmuggle. Our aim is to make our guests feel at home and give some extra luxuries too! We hope you will come back and stay again in the future - you would be most welcome! Tabitha and Polly
