Getting around

A car is recommended for getting around although many of our guests arrive from Stirling by bus and spend their time without a car just walking in and around callander. All of callander's shops, hotels and restaurants are within walking distance as are walks along the River Teith, Bracklinn falls etc.

Interaction with guest

For your convenience, guests let themselves into the property by accessing the keys via a keysafe, this means that you are free to arrive and leave whenever you like and are not tied to certain times to meet and exchange keys. We do ask that guests arrive after 3PM and leave by 10 to allow us time to clean the cottage and get ready for our next arrivals.

“Fantastic little cottage, ideal location and perfect for families with pets”

Reviewed 6 Apr 2018

We arrived on a Saturday and the village was very busy but managed to park just a few doors down from the cottage, which wasn't a problem. The location was excellent, just a little down the street was a Co-op and this had everything we needed. The cottage was very clean and cozy. It was well equipped with everything that we needed. Yes, we were on the main road and you could hear traffic at around 5.30ish but that didn't bother me as I am always awake at that time but if its a problem for some people then earplugs would stop the noise. Thank you, Richard, for letting us use your cottage, it was a lovely experience. We would definitely go back/

Owner's reply: Thank you for your review, glad to hear that you enjoyed your holiday. Hope the unicorn found its way home from its extended holiday!

“Good Central Location”

Reviewed 27 Sep 2016

Just returned from a lovely holiday at the Fairhill, great central location, close to shops restaurants and pubs. The accommodation is clean and well equipped with practical wooden floors. The property also allows dogs which is a must for me as I have 2 Shih Tzu's. The cottage is on the main road through Callander which can be noisy but I never really found this to be an issue and neither did the dogs. The only thing I would like to point out is that although the cottage does have a private garden it does not back directly onto the cottage, you have to go along a shared path and down the side of the neighbours garden before you reach it, this might not suit everyone especially if you have young children or dogs, would have been nice just to be able to open the back door and step into the garden. Having said that I would go back to Fairhill if I was looking for somewhere central to use as a base.

“Basic budget accommodation”

Reviewed 16 Feb 2016

I've just returned from a long weekend at Fairhill with my husband and three young children. Very handy location, right on the main street. Only a few minutes walk from shops, restaurants etc. Living in the country, we took a while to get used to the constant noise of passing traffic. The property could benefit from lined curtains, to help keep out the glare of street lights. We found the property to be quite cold. Even though we had the heating on constantly, only the sitting room reached a satisfactory temperature. The kitchen/dining area never got warm enough to be used. It had a very small radiator, which was totally inadequate considering the area to be heated. A lot of the heat went out the windows, they are all in a state of disrepair. Fairhill could really benefit from double glazing. We ended up eating our meals on our laps in the sitting room. The property was rather poorly equipped and lacked some of the nice touches that many holiday lets provide eg salt, soap in the bathroom. There were also no tea towels, bin liners or dust pan. Extra blankets would have been nice, as one fairly thin duvet didn't really keep our children warm. All in all, reasonable accommodation for the price but wouldn't recommend during the winter.

Owner's reply: Teresa, thank you for taking time to review the cottage, we are sorry that you found the cottage lacking in a few areas. I will now respond to your comments as follows: 1. The cottage is advertised as being in the main street and as such is on the busiest road in Callander, this does make it handy for all the local shops, restaurants etc. but will be noisier than a countryside cottage. We are currently looking at getting the windows seen to but the property is in a conservation area and as such we are not allowed to replace the existing windows or to put double glazed units in. The downstairs rooms already have secondary double glazing and we are considering getting this fitted to the upstairs rooms. With respect to the heating we have not had any other complaints about being cold, I did notice when I went in to change over the cottage that the bedroom radiators were turned down to 2 so maybe that was the reason. It was also bitterly cold (-7 on the Sunday morning) during your visit. With respect to your other comments, tea towels are in the bottom drawer in the kitchen (there are usually 2 spare ones provided), the bin liners are in the cupboard under the sink as is the dustpan and brush. Salt, pepper and cooking oil are in the cupboard above the cooker. We always appreciate constructive comments and will consider getting lined curtains or blackout blinds in the bedrooms and will check that the radiators are working correctly in the other rooms.
