Location description from owner

The England region

Rutland is a great destination for travellers who want a countryside feel with plenty to do and without the tourists. It's within half an hours drive of major motorways & trunk roads. This tiny county has two beautiful reservoirs both of which are loved by bird watchers & fishermen, numerous historical places of interest to visit, Rockingham Castle, Burghleigh House, Deene Park, Boughton House & so many more. For the gardeners there are the late Geoff Hamiltons's wonderful BBC gardens at Barnsdale. The stunningly beautiful Stamford, so often used in period dramas which also has great independent shops & for a special occasion The George at Stamford. Steeped in history with it's beautiful market towns, great restaurants, and plenty of things to do, there's something here for everyone.

Newly opened this year is Rutland Water inland beach, fabulous fresh water swimming for all the family

Caldecott

Semi rural location half a mile from the nearest village, 3 miles to the nearest shop, for that rural feel without the total isolation.

“This cottage has everything!”

Reviewed 17 Oct 2016

We have stayed in many cottages but this one was really hard to beat. Everything was just perfect; beds, sofa and chairs very comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed. There was a very generous welcome pack left for us. Always plenty of hot water for showers and baths, and a very useful utility room for muddy boots. The owners who live next door, were welcoming but never too obtrusive. During our weekend stay, we visited Lyveden (NT) and walked round Rutland Water to Normanton Church, There are plenty of places to visit in the area, and very attractive villages - we'd like to return to this delightful cottage and see more of Rutland. Thank you Barbara and Philip for creating such a relaxing and well-equipped property.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your lovely review, I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay, there is so much to see in such a tiny county, we hope to see you all again

“Lovely cosy cottage. Excellent tourist location.”

Reviewed 17 Aug 2016

Lovely cosy cottage with very well equipped kitchen, beautifully furnished rooms and comfortable beds. Plainly much thought has gone into anticipating what a guest requires. The location is wonderful too. Very quiet, in glorious countryside and conveniently close to Stamford, Rockingham, Rutland Water so outing driving was a minimum. So many things to do or see nearby. Very good food at nearby Sondes Arms. The perfect place to stay for a holiday.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your lovely review, we are very fortunate that we live in such a pretty county which is often overlooked as a holiday destination.

“A fantastic cottage in a lovely area”

Reviewed 8 Aug 2016

Pond Cottage is one of the best equipped cottages we have stayed in. It is very tastefully furnished and in particular the kitchen is filled with good quality equipment. The garden area is a lovely space to sit, weather permitting. We couldn't get the hang of the shower which seemed to go cold after only one of our party had showered, but as we were only there for 3 nights we managed. - there is a bath too. The welcome pack of wine, bacon, eggs, bread, milk and more was fantastic. Lovely local villages, we enjoyed a meal at the pub in Rockingham. Hope to return one day.

Owner's reply: Thank you for the lovely comments about the cottage, we're so pleased you enjoyed your stay. We are aware that we are aware we need a bigger tank our plumber is just waiting for a quiet period to fit it, though it does usually manage to do at least 3 showers in succession, it will certainly all be sorted by early September. Hope we may see you all again
