Location description from manager

The England region

Famous for its superb beaches, dramatic coastlines and outstanding natural beauty, the Island is a holiday haven with something for everyone. From secluded coves and wide expanses of sandy beaches it’s not just the stunning landscapes that attract visitors to the Island, but the variety of things to see and do. Rich in a wide variety of sporting and leisure activities, visitors return year after year to enjoy another holiday with Home from Home Holidays. Self-catering is the most popular option because it is both cost effective and offers flexibility with the freedom to come and go as you please.

Calbourne

The West Wight, as its known, is a scenic area consisting of some of the Island’s prettiest villages and hamlets. Most of this part of the Island is designated as Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and Special Scientific Interest (SSI). Visit Alum Bay's famous coloured sand cliffs or take a boat trip to one of Britain's most famous natural landmarks, The Needles. The Needles Landmark Attraction is a family day out, with its sand shop, glass blowing and chairs lift to the beach among its attractions. The hillside walk to the historic Old Battery is a must; the views from here are indescribable. Freshwater Village offers a wide range of shops, pubs, eateries and even a sports centre; we recommend a walk round the village to discover some of its hidden pathways to appreciate its village status. Nearby Freshwater Bay, with sandy family friendly beaches has an 18 hole ‘cliff top’ golf course with some of the finest views the Island has to offer. Here is a good starting point for the Tennyson Trail - a dramatic walk along towering cliff-tops. Compton Bay's long sandy beach is not only a popular spot for surfing and swimming, but its world famous dinosaur fossil finds. The historic town of Yarmouth has a marina and 16th century castle. The history of the town is very evident as you walk round and a trip along the Grade 2 listed pier is highly recommended for views across The Solent, and is also known locally for being a great spot for fishing. Yarmouth Castle, which is tucked away to the side of the ferry dock, is also a great place for sea views and family picnics during the warmer months. Take time to explore Totland Bay with its pretty beach and short esplanade, and for bird watching visit Newtown's Nature Reserve; which is also renowned for its sunsets.
