Location description from owner

The Sardinia region

The unique, archaic dialect, the fabled food with its Ligurian and Arab influences, the local music, the processions and the farmers' markets add up to provide visitors with an unforgettable chance to experience what is truly a timeless place.

The village is inhabited all year round from about 3000 residents has a nice port and square, the Savoy tower scenic waterfront and panoramic lookout.

Calasetta has its own unique tradition of being one of the 4 living testimony in the diaspora of the Tabarkini population (together with Carloforte, Nueva Tabarka and Pegli), an ancient Genoese community that colonized the island of Tabarka in Tunisia from 1500 to around 1700. The village was founded by the settlers escaped from an enslavement attempt by the Bey of Tunis.

The Tabarkini has retained their ancient Genoese traditions, such as the typical language and the flavored cuisine that keep Genoese fish food history, contaminated by some Arab influence, such as cus-cus.

The other part of the Island does not share this origin, and it's history dates back to some 5000 years ago.
Since you arrive to the Island of Sant'Antioco, you can admire the Roman bridge and the Christian settlements that date back to Roman (Empire IV sec. BC), witnessed by an antique fountain and the cathedral with catacombs, as well as phoenician hypogean village, that have been transformed in Roman necropolis.

The nearby villages of Sant'Antioco (the antique Solki), as well as Tratalias, San Giovanni Suergiu, Porto Scuso and Carloforte offer a daylong tour opportunity absolutely worthy.

The particular exibition of the Museo del Bisso is worth a visit for the unique and magic opportunity to meet the world's the last and only spinner of marine byssus.

Emeraldine sea and white beaches, cliffs, and amazing landscapes visible both by land as by sea leave no doubt: the Island is worth to discover.

The unspoiled landscape, the easy-going local people, the fabulous traditional food and the island's simple lifestyle all combine to relax the visitor's mind and delight the senses.

You can walk to the port to find fresh fish in the afternoon when fishermen came back from sailing or to rent a rubber dinghy to sail around. You can also go to the ferry terminal and ship to San Pietro Island for dinner and enjoy a walk in the nice small town of Carloforte.

On wednesday morning a market take place at the port, you can buy fresh vegetables, fruits, typical cheese, bread and souvenirs.
At night the harbor promenade is alive with stalls of local products and African clothes and handcrafts for a walk and a funny and cheap shopping.

“The ideal holiday spot for a family with small children”

Reviewed 25 Oct 2012

We spent 10 days in August in this friendly and spacious house- a family of three with a 7-year old child. Calasetta offers an ideal holiday location if you want to enjoy the sea, have good food and stay away from the crowd. Ca de Anna was perfect for us as we all had a chance to be together but also relax, use the computer in one room, have an afternoon nap in the other and play again in another room. All the amenities were there to prepare a lighht lunch every day after the morning swim and before the late afternoon return to the beach - a 2-minute walk down some steps behind the house. Go for it! is what we advise all of our friends.

Thank you! Hope to guest you again very soon!
