Although Villa Iona is in a quiet area of Cala'n Porter it is within easy access to the many bars, restaurants and shops of Cala'n Porter. The walk to the beach takes about 10 minutes but this can also be reached by car and there is plenty of car parking spaces.

Cala'n Porter is one of the most popular resorts in Menorca and is a short drive from the airport. It has a sandy, horse shoe shaped beach which is very safe for small children and is also great for snorkling. Sunshades, loungers and pedalos are available for hire and along the paved promenade there are bars and cafes for snacks and refreshments.

Mahon the capitol is only 15 minutes by car but can also be visitted by using the hourly service bus from Cala'n Porter. It has many small boutiques and souveneir shops and a local craft fair on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Its harbour is one of the longest in Europe and along the waterfront there are many restaurants offering avariety of different menus. Boat trips of the harbour give English speaking commentaries of the history of the island.

The Balearic Islands region

Menorca became a favourite holiday resort for British tourists in the early 1950's but has always remained quiet and peaceful with well controlled tourist development giving it a family, friendly reputation.

Many parts of the island are well worth visiting from the expansive beaches on both the north & the south coasts where water sports thrive to bird sanctuaries and beautiful country walks for those who have an interest in the ecology. On the west of the island is Ciutadella, the former capital, which has a cathedral and many elegant public buildings fronting a town with traditional narrow streets.

The capitol Mahon is only 10km from Cala'n Porter and has a regular bus service to it. It has many stylish but quaint shops and restaurants and those along the harbour waterfront provide a wide variety of menus. There are boat trips to enjoy and the opportunity to appreciate the history and background of the island.

Menorca also has a rich archaeological history. Dotted throughout the island are many talyots and megalithic remains which have been restored and are well worth visiting. In the centre of the island is Monte Toro which at 350 metres is the highest point of the island. It provides excellent panoramic views and can be reached by car.

Cala'n Porter

Cala'n Porter was one of the first resorts to be developed on the island and has something to offer everyone. Situated on the south coast and only 10 minutes away from the airport, it has a lovely horseshoe shaped bay which is ideal for swimming or simply for relaxing while the young children build sand castles. Pedaloes, sun loungers and parasols are available for hire and on the paved promenade there are several snack bars to provide meals, drinks and snacks.

In the centre of the resort there are several supermarkets which provide all your everyday requirements and when you want to eat out you will find a wide variety of restaurants within easy walking distance. Many of these will also provide takeaway food.

For the energetic there is a tennis court at La Salamander restaurant that is open to the public and a kick about area for ball games at Siesta Mar which also has 2 short water shutes. For the small children there are Go Carts,Trampolines, etc and a covered soft ball play centre.

Several of the restaurants provide live entertainment in the evening and of course Cala'n Porter is famous for its night club at the Caves of Xoroi. Legend has it that in the middle ages a shipwrecked pirate lived for many months in these caves surviving on pillage from local farms. The topography of the caves makes them an interesting place to visit both by day and by night and their position ensures that there is no disturbance to others by loud music late at night.

“Superb villa !!!”

Reviewed 28 Aug 2012

Great location on edge of town but still easy to walk to centre. Villa absolutely immaculate and kitchen very well equipped. Pool a lovely size and kids were delighted to find a toy cupboard with both indoor and outdoor toys! We holidayed during Olympic fortnight so having the Freeview BBC channels meant we could catch up with the day's events! Have already recommended villa to family and friends and intend revisiting ourselves in the future. Thank you to Sheena & Alan for such a pleasant, easy and efficient booking process.
