Description

Cosy enough for 2 or 4 people, yet big enough to accommodate 8 on two floors with 2 bathrooms, Vista Poltrona has everything you need for a wonderful holiday including patios and barbecue area for the summer, and an open fire and TV for those late autumn and winter evenings.

Situated in a quiet residential area, adjacent to open country, with great views to the mountains and sea, it's about ten minutes walk to the nearest beach and a quick drive or 20-25 minute walk down to the town and port.

With weekly prices from as little as £75 per person, and cheap flights from Ryanair and Easyjet, holidays on this fantastic island are within everyone's reach. The climate is warm, dry and sunny and there are fabulous unspoilt beaches, where you can swim, snorkel, hire boat trips and enjoy every type of water sport in a crystal clear aquamarine sea.

The walking and scenery in the Gennargentu and Supramonte is stunning, along ridges, gorges, coasts and mountains.

Further details indoors

Built in 2003, this modern apartment is situated on 2 floors: ground floor and basement.

Entering the apartment from the front garden and pation, the ground floor has a lovely open plan social area with lounge, dining area and kitchen. Leading off are 2 bedrooms (1 super king and 1 bunk) and a bathroom with shower and washing machine. Double doors lead out from both bedrooms onto the back patio/garden area.

Down steps to the basement there is another bedroom with two single beds and a second bathroom with shower. The downstairs lounge area has a double sofabed which can be used as a 4th bedroom if required, leaving the upstairs living area free of beds for relaxing. Downstairs the bedroom and lounge have doors opening onto a store-room providing light and ventilation and the bathroom opens into a small courtyard open to the sky.

Further details outdoors

There are well established private gardens and patio areas to the front and rear. The rear garden is accessed from the two ground floor bedrooms. The front garden is entered via double gates and a paved drive, but there is ample parking on the road outside. The front patio area has a barbecue and fabulous views of the surrounding mountains and vistas down to the sea. There are plastic patio chairs and tables, an umbrella for shade, and washing lines for clothes drying.

As there are gardens front and rear it is possible to find shade at most times of the day.

The apartment is one of four in the block and the immediate neighbours are Italian and Sard who use them as their own family holiday homes from May to October. They are all really nice and friendly and Gianpierro (upstairs) speaks good English.

Location description from owner

The Sardinia region

The beautiful island of Sardinia is set in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea off the west coast of Italy and to the south of Corsica. DH Lawrence visited in the early 1920s and described it as "strange and rather wonderful, a place for adventurers, for those who want to lose the crowds, and who are intrigued, not frightened, by civilizations that initially may seem inexplicable".

Now within easy reach from the UK with a 2h:30 flight, Sardinia has grown in popularity but still manages to retain its charm and exclusivity, as a holiday destination for all. Famous not only for its history but also for its natural beauty, its coastline is probably the most spectacular in Europe. Its rugged mountains, pocked with caves, superb white sandy beaches; crystal clear aquamarine sea; huge limestone cliffs and fantastic gorges all combine to create the perfect holiday setting, whatever your interest.

The Weather is generally good all the year round with highs of 39°C in August.

The island has been inhabited since prehistoric times evident in the shape of nuraghi, conical stone buildings.constructed as defensive structures as well as homes. Sardinia became a target for invasions and the Sard people fled to “The Barbagia” a mountainous inland region where they took shelter. The settlement at Tiscali is an splendid example, well worth a visit. The rugged karst limestone landscape is riddled with caves and gorges, with fabulous examples at the Ispignoli Caves and a real adventure into the famous Goruppo Gorge.

The many invasions created an interesting influence in Sardinian food, wine, culture, architecture and archeology. Sardinian food is hearty rustic, wild boar, lamb and kid, suckling pig complemented with aubergines, artichokes, couscous and nougat and its excellent bread and salty pecorino cheese. The fresh seafood is also excellent.

A wander through the maze of streets in Dorgali, a visit to sample Nuoro's markets and history or a visit to the capital in Cagliari with its wonderful mix of ancient architecture and modern living are all recommended - if you have the time!

Cala Gonone

Cala Gonone is small idyllic coastal village surrounded by mountains and the beautiful aquamarine sea. There are beautiful beaches within a ten minute walk, and a pleasant stroll takes you to the centre for shopping and the harbour for boat hire/ boat trips. There are enough bars, hotels and restaurants in town and along the sea front to offer an excellent choice of food for a pleasant evening out, but not too many to spoil the setting. The local tourist info has details on a number of excursions (e.g. Ispignoli, Goruppo, Tiscali) and there is equipment hire for watersport and cycling down on the sea front. The local countryside provides endless scope for brilliant walking and climbing in beautiful, peaceful surroundings.

Getting around

Car hire from the airport is recommended in order to best explore all that the area has to offer. There are regular buses into Dorgali and the regional capital of Nuoro which pass nearby to the apartment. Boat hire or boat trips, easily organised down at the harbour kiosks are highly recommended as a fantastic way to visit some of the stunning and otherwise inaccessible beaches along the coast.

Interaction with guest

The keys are kept in a key safe and we will send you details on this and directions to get there on receipt of your final payment. Gonaria looks after the place for us - she speaks little English but is always around to sort out anything that might arise. If you do need anything (for example if the gas runs out) then a quick call or text to us should get it sorted quickly. We are happy to recommend things for you to do or places to visit and will send some ideas with the apartment information which you may find useful.

“Excellent cosy place close to the sea”

Reviewed 27 Feb 2013

The house has everything you could need for a great stay. Since we needed sleeping space for 7 people, the living room was converted into an extra bedroom through the use of the sofa bed, but the garden became our living room. With up to six people, you have a nice living room too. With two bathrooms, there were no queues for showers, and the washing machine in one of them was useful. The walk down to the sea really is as short as they say and the beach you come to has plenty of space. The owner describes a number of outings, many of which we took up (though the walk south along the coast to a beach only accessible by boat or on foot we thought was longer and more strenuous than described). One outing that was not mentioned but that we enjoyed was to Orosei, a lovely town a little north. The owner was very pleasant to deal with!

“Excellent accommodation - well looked after, clean and very comfortable”

Reviewed 24 Feb 2013

This was our first visit to Sardinia and we really loved the island. The apartment was well positioned to access all the local facilities, as well as experiencing the beautiful scenery. There was plenty to do, even for 2 teenage boys. Whether it be lounging on the beach, swimming in the sea, walking or going out to try the local cuisine and drinking. Our top tip is to rent a car and get out and about to see more of the island, we found delightful beaches, really spoilt for choice. Will definitely be going back.

“A great apartment and perfect base for climbing in the Cala Gonone area”

Reviewed 22 Feb 2013

I have stayed at Vista Poltrona 3 times, with friends, to climb on the fabulous Cala Gonone crags. It,one of my favourite places to stay. The apartment is well appointed and always serviced to a high standard. Although its in a quiet area it's only a short way to the excellent local restaurants, shops and of course the beach. I'd recommend Vista Poltrona without any hesitation
