Before you even step into the entrance of the Shangri-La valley, you can smell the pungent sweetness of the lush melons, watermelons and plum trees.

The valley is alive with the song of birds and you can hear the rustling of small animals on either sides of the path to the grape trees terrace. Yet, the gardens are empty of people, you will be the only visitor to this paradise.

As you wander farther into the gardens of Eden, sunlight becomes softer, filtered by the leaves of the ancient olive, fig and almond trees.

This is the perfect environment to get yourself "tuned-up" for not only the coming months, but for the rest of the year.

Casa Maria certainly got us hooked in to the bohemian vibe of the 'other-side-of-Ibiza' - Lovely rustic country setting with fig and almond trees. Fresh farm eggs from our organically fed hens added to the 'good life' vibe that Ibiza is well known for. Our house, not bereft of mod-cons had a flat screen TV, DVD and super-speedy broadband. The decor is quite traditional and comfortable, good bedding and sheets and bath towels are plentiful. The house is reached from the main road via a bumpy camino track which is quite charming and authentic. Local beaches, mostly rugged and cove-like were minutes away by car and the beach club bars were only 30 minutes away. Shopping facilities were close by and the village of San Juan is only 9km away, here the local supermarket has fresh fruit and vegetables, an organic range and fresh fish and a butchery. Friday morning, the village square features their local organic produce including fresh fig jam, walnut compote, and local herb apertivo drink. A tango festival on our last evening, high in the hills transported us to another era and after a lovely Aperol cocktail we headed home to pack for our morning flight. Wonderful!
