The Balearic Islands region
Mallorca is the largest of the three main Balearic Islands and has been undergoing a wonderful revival over the last 25 years. The island has reestablished itself as a destination rich in culture and offers visitors a diverse choice of unspoilt beaches, bustling towns and breathtaking scenery. The tranquil inland areas have many beautiful areas with traditional old farmhouses carefully restored as holiday homes, ranging from contemporary villas to grand countryside retreats. These properties present the opportunity to enjoy the calming ambience of the island, with space for friends or families to experience a holiday at a property with its own grounds, swimming pool, and of course a high standard of accommodation. If its beaches you're after then the South side of the island can't be beaten; the heritage protected beach and salt lakes of Es Trenc could easily be mistaken for the Caribbean, and the bewildering array of smaller calas (beaches) along the coast line will leave any visitor to the island spoilt for choice. The cosmopolitan town of Santanyi with its bustling street markets, charming Cas Concos and conveniently located s'Horta each providing the basis for some of the finest villas on the island. In the North of the island, Pollenca, Campanet and Buger have the dramatic backdrop of the Sierra de Tramuntana mountain range, with its myriad of little villages nestling between its peaks. Great cuisine is never far away, with each village or town offering many interesting and unique restaurants serving local sourced ingredients. As the secrets of Mallorca are slowly unravelled, so its popularity increases.
Cala d'Or, the golden cove, offers a wealth of restaurants, shops and activities for couples and families of all ages. You are further spoilt for choice when you visit the beautiful marina, Porto Petit. It has an array of restaurants, a stunning yacht club, boutiques and a variety of bars. If its beaches you desire, this part of Mallorca has more than its fair share, there are over 18 coves of varying sizes and seclusion. s'Amarador is our pick of the bunch for its breathtaking natural beauty, but Cala Sanau has a great beach bar and beautiful clear waters so is definitely worth a visit. The Vall d'Or Golf Course is also within 10 minutes drive, which is not only a great golf course, but also has a lovely restaurant if you fancy some lunch in the beautiful grounds. The impressive mountain top peaks occupied by the Castell de Santuiri and the monastery Sant Salvador set the backdrop for much of the surrounding countryside, and quickly become familiar. You are also within a short drive to many interesting towns such as Santanyi, which has a great market on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and then there is Porto Colom, a picturesque fishing town that has some stylish new restaurants and bars.
