Liberte is a child-free haven of tranquility aimed at those who really want to be in a tranquil environment benefiting from a mix of total relaxation and stimulating visits or just one or the other. Some people never leave the house and others are out all the time! Liberte is a large old Quercy stone farmhouse that has been lovingly and stylishly restored, retaining traditional features but providing all mod cons. Truffle, is a high quality gite classified with the highest ranking available at the local tourist office ! There are two 1 bedroom apartments on the ground floor, of which Truffle is one. Upstairs is the owners 3 bedroom apartment which can also be rented (L'arbre). If the2 downstairs apartments are rented out then the 3 bedroom apartment upstairs is not. And vice versa. So there is plenty of privacy. The farmhouse is set in 6 peaceful acres of woodlands and meadows. However, it isn't isolated, it's just 20 minutes drive from Cahors (& motorway A20 from Paris and Toulouse). Cahors is a big bustling market town and has good access to airports. Lalbenque and Limognes are our local villages (10mins in the car). Those villages also offer food shops, cafés and restaurants. We are 20 mins from the stunning mediaeval hillside village of St Cirq Lapopie with beautiful galleries, shops and restaurants. The whole area offers a wealth of fascinating visits and outings as well as any number of sporting activities - fantastic walking, cycling, canoeing and horse-riding.
In the grounds and gardens, there is ample choice of areas to relax in. The south-garden and the new deck with loungers by the summer kitchen are perfect for sun-bathing and relaxing, good quality sun-loungers and three outside dining areas are available as well as dining in the apartment. The area is ideal for walkers, cyclists, horse-riders, canoeists, historians, geologists, gardeners, philosophers, lovers of good food and wine, and those of you who are simply happy to relax and unwind - or any combination of the above!

Accommodation: "Truffle" is suitable for a couple or two people sharing and has an en suite shower room & WC. The rooms have stone floors with rugs and the apartment is innately cool in the hot summer months, having 70 cm stone walls, and centrally heated in winter. The separate living area is large and comprises quality oak kitchen, dining facilities and living room and retains lovely features such as exposed beams and stone sink . Quality comfy sofas, well equipped kitchen with dishwasher. It is definitely not "basic". Quality UK king size double bed. Table d'hôtes meals by arrangement. Board games, cards, table tennis, badminton, boules, books, tv (for dvds and videos) as well as hundreds of free films to watch are all available no extra charge. WiFi.

The main house has, on one side, a walled south-facing, gravelled garden. On the other side of the house there is the big open courtyard leading out to the fields and woods, with various areas to relax and sunbathe. There is a beautiful, huge, old barn in totally original condition. Last year we invested in a splendid deck right by the summer kitchen with fridge. This summer kitchen provides extremely cool summer dining (sometimes a "must") and on the land there are endless nooks and crannies to relax in. In particular there are some fantastic off-road walks in the area (maps provided). The wild-life, birds and insects are very much a part of the area and provide endless fascination, as indeed do the flowers, grasses and trees. Liberte finds itself in a part of the countryside which, frankly, does not look or behave much differently than it did over 100 years ago. The local people are very friendly and welcoming and well-organised tourist information is freely available to all visitors as well as the benefit of advice and help from the owner who also lives on site and can be as much or as little in evidence as you choose.
Available for longer monthly lets @ £500 per month from September to March. Apply to owner.
The Midi-Pyrénées region
The Lot is known for its unspoiled environment and is not as touristy as its "companion region" the Dordogne. The area is scattered with landmark villages (Rocamadour, St Cirq Lapopie, Domme, Penne etc) perched on rocky promontories, with dinky little houses and passageways, just as it all was hundreds of years ago. The area is famous for its Cahors red wine but offers a fantastic range of rose wine too. And the food - well anything from a cheap scrummy snack to the full blown gourmet dinner - at any number of delightful restaurants and brasseries. Local larger towns, such as Montauban, Rodez, Figeac, Caussade, Toulouse, Albi, Sarlat, Gourdon, Moissac are wonderful places to spend the day but really even Cahors (just 20 mins from Liberte) has pretty much all you could wish for in shopping and fun. Weather : Spring kicks off in March with budding lilac, cherry blossoms and irises growing wild along the roads. It doesnt look back and things warm up to 30-35 by May, sometimes soaring to 40/45 in July/August. We sometimes have spectacular lightning displays when the heat builds up but dont panic the house is well-earthed. Yes, we do have rain too, but it is usually over in a trice (and much needed). Evening temperatures are rarely below 20 degrees from May to mid September and the Autumn - well it seems to go on quite nicely until Christmas, when we have a couple of months (Jan/Feb) when we batten down the hatches and get cosy in front of log fires.
Most local towns have market days (lists available) and chateaux, gardens, vineyards, museums and galleries are in abundance. The area is renowned for its very wide and well-publicised cultural (music, dance, theatre, art, photography) programme in the summer. If you wish, you could be out every night doing or seeing something. All the local villages have an annual fete and each weekend provides an opportunity to mix with the locals and have a good dance to live music and meet the local folk. A day trip to Toulouse on a Sunday is great - especially on your first weekend - you can stock up with loads of great quality fresh food, have lunch in the sought-after "Loubem" restaurant above the Victor Hugo market, check out the canals, chill in cafes and return with your provender to the peace and tranquility that is "Liberte". Antique/brocantes market are in abundance throughout the summer. For the gardeners amongst you - you have free range to do stuff on the land and in the gardens if it takes your fancy.

"Superb accommodation and hostess"
After a long hot drive, arrived to a warm welcome and a cool glass of fizz. Beautiful and tranquil location. Fab downstairs room with own courtyard garden, room immaculate with everything one could want - all very tastefully done. Best night's sleep we'd had in ages. A fantastic place to stay which we highly recommend - real value for money.

"An oasis of tranquility."
We booked to stay 4 weeks and ended up staying 9 weeks ! " liberte" truly was relaxing. we stayed in the appartment truffel. clean, stylish and very comfortable. most mornings we would have breakfast in the garden, surrounded by wonderfull countryside and the sounds of nature. most days we would explore the fantastic countryside and local villages. on our return we would relax in the beautifull garden and in the evenings eat out locally or in the garden. the owner, a lovely lady by the unusual name of Chi ( locals told us she was a contessa) was always helpfull if we had any questions. We enjoyed our stay so much, we will return for summer 2013
