Location description from owner

The England region

There's so much to do, see and explore in Cornwall. With the longest stretch of continuous coastline in Britain, you’ll discover tiny fishing villages, smuggler’s coves, countless spectacular beaches and sweeping bays, dramatic cliffs and coastlines, plus beautiful moorland and countryside. Perfect for surfers, walkers, bird watchers, honeymooners & families alike!

Cadgwith

The Lizard Peninsula, Cornwall, England's most southerly point is a secret back water - almost an island, girded on three sides by the sea and the fourth by the meandering waters of the Helford river, only a tiny land bridge connecting us to the rest of Cornwall. Whatever your taste or choice for relaxation we have everything for you to explore from golden beaches to pebbly coves, dramatic cliff tops to still rivers and creeks full of bird life. Freshwater lakes, open heathland, fabulously hued Serpentine rock outcrops and gardens full of sub-tropical plants warmed by the Gulf Stream. We are only a few miles from the most southerly point at The Lizard. Ruan Major is a small hamlet, and quiet even in the peak season, yet we are just a few minutes f4romone of the finest beaches in Cornwall, Kynance Cove. And a 40 minute drive to the most Westerly point at Land;s End and the Minnack Theatre. The famous beaches of Kynance Cove and the fishing village at Cadgwith are only a couple of miles away, as well as big sandy beaches accessible by road at Poldhu and Kennack Sands. In the summer months we can point you toward the dog friendly beaches if you like too!The traditional Furry Dance takes place just 8 miles away in Helston on Flora Day on May 8th every year. Add to this an amazing choice of restaurants and pubs serving beautifully fresh fish and other local produce, an eclectic selection of artists and craftspeople and every activity from surfing to sailing, hiking to horse-riding and all in a quieter setting than you ever thought possible in Cornwall. For those who like theme parks we are close to Flambards which also has a great One2Eleven indoor play area for those rainy days if you don't fancy a wet windy walk along the cliffs!

“Very peaceful location”

Reviewed 9 Aug 2016

The barn was in the middle of nowhere and therefore immediately we felt very relaxed. The barn is very spacious and had 2 bathrooms, 1 smaller next to the downstairs room amd the other had a shower and a bathtub which was lovely to read in on a cloudy afternoon. We spent most of our time eating, drinking and chatting around the large dining table, the kitchen area is very spacious and has everything you could need. We were very pleased with the dvds the owners left for us to watch too. There are some nice coves nearby, the lizard point is a lovely walk and you can spot some seals. We also saw 2 snakes in the bushes on our travels, they were very tranquil too. There is a lot of nature around the area and it is completely rugged and unspoilt. We went for walks around the countryside everyday. Overall we had a nice stay.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your lovely review and once again thank you for leaving the house so beautifully clean - much appreciated. So glad that you had a great time and we very much look forward to welcoming you here in the future.

“What a lovely little retreat - the photos do not do the place justice”

Reviewed 9 Jun 2013

On arrival, we were welcomed by Sandra who wanted to get the fires lit before we arrived. What a lovely feel the place had and we felt relaxed immediately. With two log fires burning, so much room downstairs to share and a wonderful little kitchen area, we found ourselves making the most of our little break. Alfie, our golden retriever enjoyed roaming around the open plan area. The location was also excellent - only a few minutes from Kennack Sands or the Lizard, we didn't have to go far to see beautiful beaches and coastal walks.

Owner's reply: Thank you very much for your lovely review - so glad you enjoyed yourselves, and certainly was a pleasure having you to stay. Look forward to welcoming you on your next visit!

“Beautiful cottage in a perfect location to explore Cornwall”

Reviewed 15 Apr 2013

We had a fantastic stay at Barn Cottage. The owners were very welcoming to all members of our family, we travelled with a 2.5yr old and a 5 week old baby! The cottage is surrounded by beautiful grounds in which we were allowed to wander. We were able to walk into the fields to meet the cows, wander around the farmland with the chickens and explore the woodland. On one occasion our little one was even allowed to help collect the eggs from the hen house :) The eggs are avaliable to purchase and are delicious! The cottage has all basic amenities to ensure a comfortable stay. We quickly got used to using the log burners and logs were readily avaliable to purchase from the owners. The cottage was spotless on our arrival and includes a washing machine and dishwasher which are very handy with little ones around. We would however suggest that the owners provide a clothes airer. The weather was just a little too cold and windy to hang the washing on the line in the barn! The bedrooms were all very spacious and include great storage for clothes. The beds were comfortable and had beautiful quilts for the cold nights. The lounge and dining areas are huge and plenty adequate enough for the 5 adults and 2 children we had. There is lots of seating in the lounge but some of it is a little uncomfortable when settling down for a cold evening in front of the tv!! There are 2 big supermarkets within a short drive from the cottage, we however, ordered our shopping to be delivered before we arrived and the owners were even kind enough to pack it all away into the cupboards for us :) Whilst on our visit to cornwall we were able to visit Kynance Cove, Mullion Cove, Cadgwith Cove, The Lizard and Kennack Sands. All within a 10 minute drive from the cottage and worth a visit whatever the weather. We also visited Lands End, Truro, St Ives and Trebah Gardens all within a 45 minute drive from the cottage. The owners provide plenty of information about places to visit when in Cornwall and were always around to answer any questions. We were super impressed with Barn Cottage and loved how welcome we were made to feel every day of our holiday. We would love to return next year.

Owner's reply: Thank you very much for your comprehensive and positive review, glad you had such a great break! We have now added a third sofa which is soft and ideal for comfy evenings, and have purchased a new airer. We very much look forward to welcoming you on your next visit!
