Location description from owner

The Algarve region

Cabanas de Tavira
Cabanas it’s a former fishing village, about 7Km from the city to the East side. It holds a little more than 1000 permanent residents, and its beautiful and clean beaches turn it into a popular tourist destination in the summer.

The village structure is composed by a long line of low-rise houses, shops, bars and restaurants facing the Ria Formosa Nature Park.

The history of Cabanas goes back to the year of 1734, at the same time the tuna fish fishing activity started, originating a need for the creation of huts (yes cabanas is the Portuguese word for huts) to store all the fishing tools and the growth of the community.

This parish still lives mainly from fishing, contributing to the enrichment of the local gastronomy with products like tuna fish, razor clams, etc. Although the strong connection and dependence from fishing, Cabanas also depends very much from tourism, being the most visited parish along the year.

Nowadays Cabanas offers to everyone a rich cultural heritage, from its fauna and flora, to the diversity of accommodation and gastronomy.

Cabanas

Praia de Cabanas - Cabanas-Mar
The unspoilt island beach in Cabanas, Praia de Cabanas (or Cabanas-Mar or Ilha de Cabanas.) is 7 kilometres long boasting beautiful white sand and perfect tranquility for sunbathers. Boats to the island run from throughout the day from April to October, tickets costing as little as €1 euro return per person.
Visit the Fortaleza de Cacela Velha - a little further to the east of Cabanas
Torre de Aires (or Ares) in Luz - of medieval or Arab origins, formed part of the defences of this stretch of coast.

Golf: 'Benamor', 'Quinta da Ria', 'Quinta da Cima' and 'Colina Verde' are the nearest courses

Praia de Cabanas has its own café-bar, showers and toilet facilities, sunshades to rent and water sports such as windsurfing, sailing and jet-skiing and is supervised during the 'beach season'.

Historical remains in the Cabanas area
Visit the fort of São João da Barra, at the entrance to the harbour (at the end of the waterfront road), built to a polygonal design in the 17th century.

Visit the Fortaleza de Cacela Velha - a little further to the east of Cabanas
Torre de Aires (or Ares) in Luz - of medieval or Arab origins, formed part of the defences of this stretch of coast.

If you can summon up the energy to leave Cabanas for an hour or two to explore a little further, then a visit to Tavira is a must. It is probably the most attractive town in the Algarve and despite the increasing numbers of tourists who visit is still very much a Portuguese town. The riverside near the market building, with it's outside cafés and garden area, is always a good place to stop awhile and watch the world go by and if churches are of interest to you, then be prepared to spend some time as there more than a dozen in Tavira!

“Wonderful accommodation in a perfect location.”

Reviewed 19 Sep 2016

We had a fabulous couple of weeks in Cabanas. The town house was very clean, well appointed and spacious - perfect for a family with teenagers, it even has good wifi! The property manager was delightful and couldn't have been more helpful. The complex pool, restaurant, gym and bar are just across the road and provide a friendly service at a reasonable price. Cabanas promenade is about a 10 minute walk, it is a small town but with a reasonable choice of restaurants. The beach is only a short cheap ferry ride but it's worth it, it is absolutely beautiful. We had a great time and will hopefully be going back again soon.

“Excellent family holiday”

Reviewed 6 Sep 2014

The villa is superb, extremely clean, decorated to a very high standard. Each bedroom has an en suite and they all have a balcony. The kitchen is well equipped which made cooking for the baby extremely easy. We stayed for two weeks and had a lot of lovely bbq's on the terrace as well nights out sampling the lovely restaurants in Cabanas. We didn't have a rental car and we didn't find that this was an issue, we got a taxi twice into Tavira to the Gran Plaza to do a big food shop and bought everyday bits (water, milk, bread etc) from the local supermarket a short walk away. Frances and Ann were extremely attentive to our needs and extremely helpful. The complex itself is lovely, the pool area was a huge hitewith our energetic 4 year old, whereas our 1 year old enjoyed pottering around the garden area of the villa. The restaurants on the complex were lovely and we ate there a couple of times. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend staying here and we are already thinking about when can next go!

“An Excellent Holiday”

Reviewed 22 Aug 2013

We recently returned from the Apartment in o pomar and traveled with my wife daughter and her cousin and my elderly parents. We were looking for a "Home from Home" apartment with some quality and that is exactly what we got. We had excellent communication before we traveled with Francis and was met by Ann(the agent) on arrival who explained everything about the apartment and area very well. The apartment is obviously very new and has fantastic facilities which are all modern and easy to use. We wanted a quiet location with easy access for my parents and again this was exactly what we got. The pool area is only about 75 yards from the apartment and is very clean and safe with security access and a life guard on duty nearly all the time. it was height of the season and therefore we had to be by the pool early to get beds and as usual some visitors would lay towels but not arrive till pm which was frustrating for some people as got quite busy and especially at the weekend. The best thing though was the new restaurant (vert in ) as i have never eaten at a better restaurant abroad which offered quality food for reasonable pricing presented extremely well and in good time! i cannot recommend this place highly enough, but be warned good news spreads fast so book early each day! The beach front is about a 15 min walk or train ride for elderly and young and then you have to get a boat ride to the other side of the jetty and then it is about a 400 mtr walk which proved a little too much for my parents so we only went once. There are probably other restaurants and areas to visit but due to my parents inability to get about we just relaxed in the complex each day. the only down side was lack of on site shop but i enjoyed the 10 mins walk each day for bits and pieces as we didn't have a car. Our overall experience was great and we would definitely recommend to others looking for a quiet relaxing holiday and hope to return again.

“Wonderful Villa, Wonderful weather, Wonderful time!”

Reviewed 8 Oct 2012

Just back from a fantastic stay in Cabanas. The villa was really lovely, very clean and a very well equipped kitchen and really comfortable furniture throughout. The O Pomar complex was very well maintained and the swimming pool was just a very short walk from the villa. The pub was very friendly and provided great entertainment in the evenings. Cabanas Town is a lovely place, with great places to eat and enjoy yourself. The beach is great, and has a great cafe there providing everything you need for the day. I will certainly be back next year! Many thanks for a great holiday

“Immaculate!”

Reviewed 3 Oct 2012

Just returned from a fortnight's stay with three friends (all of us young at heart pensioners). I don't think I've ever stayed anywhere so immaculately clean! Just 40 minutes from the airport, but when we arrived we felt immediately restored - the solace is quite remarkable. The impression of the accommodation is good all round - spacious and clean - and equipped with everything you could want from beach towels to ironing boards... Not that we used those! In the complex there's a very friendly bar, with food, where they speak good English - and it's nice and close to the pool. The food is best in town though where stone-sizzled steak or monkfish straight from the sea were big hits - authentic Portuguese! The townhouse is very privately situated in the complex - and the quiet was perfect. The downside of that - is that the town is a good 10 minutes walk away. The beach is further - actually a short boat ride. There's not a lot for teenagers and it's probably too quiet for 18-30 singles types. But it worked for us! Definitely will return - with kids and grandkids next time!

“Pure heaven.”

Cannot fault this townhouse, myself my wife and two children all enjoyed the whole stay very much. Swimming pool great and kids loved it. Pub on site very friendly with some music nights and excellent pub style food.Enjoyed sitting out on a balmy night with the children having a family barbecue and relaxing. Property is very clean and tidy. Location excellent, nearby restaurants plenty of choice and we had many nice meals out. Overall could not fault this property and have recommended it to my friends and family. Smooth booking from start to finish.

“Beautiful house and beautiful holiday”

Reviewed 27 Nov 2011

The house is stunning and we were not disappointed, its very well equipped. It is modern, bright and fresh, no' shabby chic' here, perfect for my tastes, even a stunning garden area. The children enjoyed their stay, there was something to do for all of them, ages 4, 8 and two 15 year olds, my son insisted his friend came with us,how could I say no!, We went to the beautiful beach most days, its a short boat ride of one euro return, its well worth the trip, if not we stayed around the pool. There were frequent trips to the towns restaurants and bars. The pub is a must on the development, as food is good and inexpensive, alternatively we BBQ'd at the house. We will definitely be returning for our second installment.
