Other common attractions on the Island are spice tours, Prison Island, butterfly centre and the opportunity to swim with dolphins in Kisimkaze on the south coast.

The Zanzibar Archipelago region

The word Zanzibar evokes many exotic and erotic images, it's also known as the 'Spice Island'; it's beaches and climate are idyllic. Zanzibar has an amazing history therefore a visit to the Museum in stonetown is worthwhile, car hire could be arranged but would need to be paid for locally.

Bwejuu

About two kms north of the house is what's known as a 'lagoon' where there is magnificent snorkelling opportunity but it's advisable to wear shoes or fins due to sea urchins and stone fish.

“The ocean is so close you can hear the waves rolling from your bed!”

Reviewed 15 Jan 2013

This property was right on the beach front, ideal for some surf and fun. The white sandy beach was clean and a beauty to behold. The ocean was so blue it was hard to stop staring at it. My best bit though, was the hammock gently rocking in the breeze on the beach under the whistling palm fronds... The area is quiet and very private. Perfect for a getaway when you want to shut the world out. The house could definitely use an uograde of facilities like the fans and fridge. The care taker is an excellent cook and he was such a help to have around. He had good knowledge of the local area and gave us excellent advise of places to visit, transportation and local rates of just about everything.

“Wonderful location on beach”

Reviewed 26 Dec 2011

The house is in a beautiful location right on the beach with lovely views os the ocean. The beach is quiet enough to be peaceful but with enough activity (fisher-women) to be interesting. The bedrooms are a good size and nicely furnished (although the beds are quite short - about 1m80) There is adequate storage space but nowhere to hang clothes as the built-in wardrobes do not have rails. The living/dinig area is a good size and adequately furmished. The bathroom is basic and would benefit from a mirror and somewhere to place toiletteries. We did not use the kitchen as we employed a cook, see below, who brought a lot of equipment with him. The house has oil lamps and an battery powered lantern. bring torches/flashlights as there are daily powercuts. We were met at the airport by Hafidh who arranged car hire, trip to an ATM etc. As recommended in a previous review we asked Hafidh to stay and cook for us. This was a very good decision. Firstly Hafidh is a truely wonderful; cook. He really should open his own restaurant. Secondly, the nearby places to eat are of dubious quality or in a beach club and very expensive. We would therefore strongly recommend anyone staying to employ Hafidh. Not only is he a great cook but he is a very very nice person who can help with all manner of things. We enjoyed Zanzibar. We visited the Jozani forest national park and Stonetown as well as driving to the extreme north and south of thr island. We would recommend renting a car unless you really want nothing more than a beach holiday. (One minor point. I found the constant police check points irritating. We were stopped at least twice on every journey).

“Great stay, excellent villa, wonderful service!”

Reviewed 28 Sep 2011

We had a group of 5 people who went to Tanzania to climb Kilimanjaro in August. After such a challenging hike (we made it to the top!), we've decided to treat ourselves to a nice relaxing vacation in Zanzibar. Making all the arrangements with the owner of the property was extremely easy. Jamilla was very responsive, polite and helpful. She also arranged transportation for us and someone was waiting for us at the airport when we arrived. That someone was Haffid. Let me tell you about Haffid - since we arrived late at night (around 8pm) it was too dark and dangerous for Haffid to drive us to the house, which was approximately 45 min from the airport. So him and his daughter invited us to their house to spend the night! They made an amazing dinner for us, Zanzibar tea and a yummy dessert! After chatting at the dinner table for a little bit, we asked Haffid if he would be kind enough to cook for us at the house for our entire stay (we were amazed with his cooking). He gladly agreed and he never repeated the same dish twice! The house we stayed in was very nice, newly remodeled, clean and cozy. It's a duplex and we had one part of the house all to ourselves, the other part was unoccupied. Ground floor consists of a kitchen, living room, dining room and a bathroom. The top floor had 2 bedrooms (one bedroom had 1 queen size bed, another 2 full beds), hallway (with an additional reclining couch), bathroom and a beautiful balcony with a gorgeous view! The beach is just by the doorsteps. Beach: the white sand reminded me of a flour, it was that white and fine! Because of the high/low tides, the seaweed gets on the beach and stays there (tiny minus). Around: we were very glad that we hired Haffid to be our cook (breakfast & dinner). There are couple of restaurants that are near by (Twisted Palms and Evergreen), but the menu is very limited and it repeats itself. Just to change it up, we would have lunch at Twisted Palms. Suggestions: Rent a bike and cruise down the beach, check out the surroundings. Make sure to go to Stone Town and either spend 1 full day there or 2 (much better). Spice tour & Slave Cove is a must. Do some research before hand and just walk around the town (self-tour), you'll really enjoy it! If you have any specific questions, don't hesitate to contact me. I'd be happy to help! Asante sana!
