Located at the centre of the UK, Buxton in the Peak District has excellent rail, bus and air links and is within easy reach of the country's main motorway network.

Buxton is a spa town in Derbyshire, England. It has the highest elevation of any market town in England. Located close to the county boundary with Cheshire to the west and Staffordshire to the south, Buxton is described as "the gateway to the Peak District National Park". A municipal borough until 1974, Buxton was then merged with other localities including Glossop, lying primarily to the north, to form the local government district and borough of High Peak within the county of Derbyshire. Buxton is within the sphere of influence of Greater Manchester due to its close proximity to the area.

Buxton is home to Poole's Cavern, an extensive limestone cavern open to the public, and St Ann's Well, fed by the geothermal spring bottled and sold internationally by Buxton Mineral Water Company. Also in the town is the Buxton Opera House, which hosts several music and theatre festivals each year. The Devonshire Campus of the University of Derby is housed in one of the town's historic buildings.

Buxton is twinned with two other towns: Oignies in France and Bad Nauheim in Germany.

Buxton

In the Peak District some of the best attractions can be found in the open air.
Why not take a cable car ride with sweeping views that you'll never forget. Go Ape on a high wire adventure course in the treetops, step back in time to marvel at ice age "rock art" or take a spectacular subterranean journey in one of our famous caverns. If historic houses are more your thing then we have one of the best in the country here at Chatsworth. You'll soon discover that there are hundreds of things to do in Derbyshire and the Peak District - something for everyone to enjoy!
Find out what's on in Derbyshire and throughout the Peak District here. Events include The Buxton Military Tattoo, the Y Not? Festival and the famous Matlock Bath Illuminations amongst many others. From local markets to craft fairs and walking festivals, there's so much to see and do.

“Very satisfied”

Reviewed 26 Nov 2016

We really enjoyed out weekend break. Geoff and Margaret were very welcoming and friendly and the accommodation was extremely clean and comfortable. They added some useful touches in the kitchen such as milk and butter and sauces. We would definitely recommend them and go again if we were out that way. Thank you

Owner's reply: What a lovely review. We are so happy you enjoyed your stay. We pride ourselves in keep ing the accommodation fresh, clean and comfortable and take pleasure in our guests being home from home with a few added touches and treats!

“The most calming place I have ever been”

Reviewed 21 Jun 2016

Overall the whole visit to Buxton was excellent. Even the weather which we thought was unfortunate turned out to be a blessing as for the first time in my life I loved the rain. The nice homely feel inside which is very settling. The kitchen and living area had practically everything you need there. The kitchen was great and the oven had a pizza setting which makes awesome pizzas. The bed was very comfortable and with a nice serene view outside. and a lot of storage space in the bedroom. Coming from London you can really taste the difference in the water and apparently some difference to your skin I was told. There are quite a few things to check out in the surrounding areas but REMEMBER TO CHECK ROUTES before you leave as its not always tourist friendly but having a rough idea you will be fine. Nice shower and toilet facilities with everything you may need. Overall excellent hard to find anything negative to say. Maybe add some playing cards or board games - but its just not needed with the area being so beautiful.

Owner's reply: What a superb review! Thank you Subir, it gives us such satisfaction to know we've provided a comfortable and pleasant abode for our guests. Thanks for your constructive comment about the provision of playing cards and board games, however, we do actually have them in abundance in the bottom kitchen drawer! Sorry you didn't find them but we will relocate them now to make it easier for future guests and hopefully for you if we have the pleasure of seeing you again!
