Location description from owner

The England region

Steeped in history and mysticism, with a unique and magical landscape, Somerset has served to grow, inspire and attract some of history's best minds. The rolling landscape and craggy rocks that form the Mendip Hills and Cheddar Gorge have stirred the emotions of romantic poets and novelists, from Coleridge and Wordsworth to JRR Tolkein. Described by the ancient Welsh Celts and the Saxons as the Land of the Summer People, Somerset is a county of captivating contrasts. The Somerset coast takes in long sweeping sandy beaches, seaside resorts, harbours and marinas, with Burnham-on-Sea and Weymouth less than an hour's drive away. Venture inland to a countryside of protected landscapes, wild moorlands, ancient woodlands and wetland habitats, dotted with historic towns and villages. At the heart of what makes Somerset tick is its distinctive culture and history that includes willow and cider making, great local food & drink, the legends of Kings Arthur and Alfred and much more. For lovers of Jane Austen, Roman baths and Georgian architecture, nearby Bath offers a feast for a day out. If legends and mysticism are more to your taste, then the Isle of Avalon will feed your imagination with tales of King Arthur and the pilgrims who walked the crisscross of trails to ancient Glastonbury Abbey. And of course, there's the famous Glastonbury Festival for music lovers.

Butleigh

In the heart of King Arthur's Avalon and surrounded by ancient trails taken by pilgrims to Glastonbury Tor and Glastonbury Abbey lies the beautiful little conservation village of Butleigh, with its 14th century church and 16th century pub. Loved by walkers and cyclists, the surrounding Somerset Levels offer a feast for those interested in wildlife. From the house there's a network of footpaths taking you up to vantage points from which to enjoy views of the surrounding countryside.
