Description from owner

Description

Enjoy a slice of rural life in a traditional Cotswold stone cottage nestled high above the beautiful Golden Valley in the relatively undiscovered South Cotswolds, between Cirencester and Stroud.

With panoramic views from the house, a spectacular garden, south-facing windows in all rooms and log burners in both the lounge and the kitchen, Glen Cottage in beautiful Old Bussage, offers you an authentic piece of paradise all year round.

If it's exercise you're after, there's fantastic walking and mountain biking to be had right from the front door, whilst liquid refreshment and home cooked food can be found at the Ram Inn, a family-run pub just 5 minutes walk away.

Children are welcome at Glen Cottage, there's off street parking if you're coming by car and we'd encourage you to try public transport too - nearby Stroud is only 90 minutes from both London and Birmingham by train and we'll gladly collect you from the railway station.

Location description from owner

The Cotswolds region

Glen Cottage is situated in the Cotswolds, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and one of the most popular areas of England among foreign tourists and domestic visitors alike. It's popular for being quintessentially English, with its Cotswolds-stone market towns and villages, narrow lanes, dry stone walls and rolling countryside.
The Cotswolds are roughly marked at its edges by the cities of Bath, Oxford, Stratford-upon-Avon and Gloucester. Famous central-Cotswolds towns are Moreton-in-Marsh and Stow-on-the-Wold and elsewhere, Cirencester and Cheltenham are well worth visiting.

Bussage

We are situated in the South Cotswolds. The nearest town is Stroud and if you are staying on a Saturday, then Stroud farmers market is a must. Stroud is not a typical Cotswolds town but it is much valued by locals for its community-feel. Local produce can easily be bought at the market and through Stroud community agriculture and there are numerous individual shops, organic cafés, farm shops, the museum in the park, performances at the Subscription Rooms and loads of local clubs and community groups.

Not much further in the opposite direction is Cirencester, "capital of the Cotswolds", a beautiful town with a long history. Visit the Corinium Museum to learn about Cirencester in Roman times or wander round the many individual shops, cafés and restaurants. Don't miss the Corn Hall, hosting trade stands during the week and a very busy antiques fair every Friday. Cotswolds Water Park can be found just south of Cirencester.

Local to the cottage are our local pubs, beautiful walks, bicycle hire, Stroud brewery, villages such as Painswick and Minchinhampton, a gliding club at Aston Down airfield and the popular Lavender Bake House Café. One of the UK's best ice cream parlors is just the other side of the valley (Winstones, open daily). For an exceptional take-away, try Fat Toni's in Stroud, who make all their pizzas on sourdough bases. The Ram pub in Bussage is 2 minutes walk from the cottage and has a very welcoming atmosphere with honest food and great beers.

“No need to look anywhere else”

Reviewed 22 Jun 2015

I've just returned from an amazing 7 day break in Glen Cottage. The cottage is chocolate box pretty from the outside and the inside doesn't disappoint. It has 2 wood burners which I didn't need to use due to glorious weather but very cosy if required. The bed was comfortable and bedroom spacious. Power shower in bathroom was a bonus. The kitchen was stocked with everything you could possibly need. Outside the gardens are beautiful and the view from the patio area is stunning. Rob went out of his way to make sure I had everything I needed and even went the extra mile to dog proof the front gate for my very small dog. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Glen Cottage and will return in the future!!!
