Description

The Cart Lodge is a grade 2 listed barn that has been lovingly restored to a very high standard while retaining a lot of its original character. This spacious and comfortable barn is part of the Lackford Lakes Barns holiday complex and has been awarded a 4 star gold award by the visit England quality in Tourism assessor. The Barn stands detached within its own enclosed garden surrounded by Lackford Lakes nature reserve where you can go for walks, bird watch from various hides looking out onto the reserve's 12 lakes. Here you can relax and escape from everything yet there is so much to visit, see and do with the beautiful, historic and lively market town of Bury St Edmunds only 5 miles away. The exciting racing town of Newmarket is only 12 miles away. Thetford Forest with its cycling trails and "go ape" high ropes is also close by. If you wish to go further afield, the beautiful Suffolk villages of Lavenham and Clare await as does constable country. We are equidistant

“Lovely place to stay”

Reviewed 23 Jul 2016

The Cart Lodge was in a great location to the places we were visiting and was next to the nature reserve which made for lovely walks and bird watching. The lodge was very comfortable and ideal for our needs.

We're so pleased that you had everything you needed at Cartlodge and hope that you saw a kingfisher on the nature reserve.

“Relaxing escape”

Reviewed 23 Jun 2016

Visited the Cart Lodge with a group of friends for a long weekend away. Accommodation was perfect - large, clean and friendly. We had everything we needed. Peaceful and tranquil place to stay.

I'm glad you enjoyed your relaxing escape to the countryside and that you found the accommodation was clean and spacious.

“Fantastic Lodge!”

Reviewed 21 Dec 2015

We have just returned from a pre Christmas weekend with the family at the Cart Lodge. It is a lovely lodge, in a fantastic location. All the rooms are at a high standard, with everything you need for a relaxed and comfortable stay. We will definitely return!

Thank you for your review and so pleased that you intend to come back and stay again!

“We keep coming back. For us it's Paradise.”

It is just what we need for very good accommodation, beautiful venue and local amenities. We are a group of sewing enthusiasts and enjoy the luxury of the communal space for working and laughing together, whilst having sufficient bedrooms for individuals. We have located good pubs nearby, as well as the Risby Barns antiques centre, Tea Rooms and Cosy Cabin Quilters shop. We are always welcomed by Emma and her assistants, who enjoy seeing what we're creating.

We are so pleased that you keep coming back! We are planning to do some redecoration in January so it should be nicely spruced up before your next stay. Best wishes from all of us.

“Brilliant”

Excellent stay. So comfortable. Everything there. As Mary Poppins would say "practically perfect in every way"! We will be back!

Thank you, we welcome return visitors and look forward to seeing you again soon! Merry Christmas X

we were a family of six adults and two children. found the cart lodge very good great space and everything you need. I would very much recommend this property Ronnie.

We really appreciate your review, thank you and so pleased that you enjoyed your stay.

“Great location”

Reviewed 19 Jul 2015

Loved the location but felt the cleanliness let the lodge down. The downstairs toilet was filthy and nobody had vacuumed the carpet downstairs before we arrived as there were crisps scattered near the sofa. The dishwasher runners were broken and we felt that it wasn't big enough for a place that accommadates 7 people. Both ensuite shower trays filled up with water and didn't drain away . On the plus side the garden is lovely to sit and relax in and the games room was a bonus. I feel if the few things I have mentioned was remidied it would be a fantastic place and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Thank you for bringing these problems to our attention, we were surprised as your experience is unusual and not what we expect. The dishwasher has been repaired and its useful to know that the showers weren't draining away efficiently as we have an excellent plumbing gadget to deal with this. I'm glad that you enjoyed the location, the garden and the games room and thank you for taking time to post a review.

“Great Accomodation in a Great Location”

Reviewed 10 Apr 2015

We stayed at Cart Lodge for 3 nights this week. There were 7 of us, 5 adults and 2 children (12 and 9) and had more than enough room. The barn is finished off to a good standard and has all of the bits and pieces that you would expect from a rental (we ate out so can't comment on the cooking equipment but it seemed all there to me). Our boys loved the games room and the weather meant that they were able to use the garden to throw and kick some balls about. We have stayed in numerous rental properties and this is certainly at the top. Being on the nature reserve was an added bonus as we were able to take a short walk to the hides and the trails which we all enjoyed. The barn is about a 10 minute drive in to Bury St Edmonds and we also took the hour long drive in to Cambridge. The location offers the opportunity to visit a number of places and we will certainly be back.

“Fantastic!”

We had a great time here - 6 friends staying for a weekend near a friend's wedding. Everything you could want in the accommodation. Games room was an added bonus!

“Well appointed holiday cottage with excellent wildlife at your door!”

Very well stocked kitchen, compact, but everything there. Comfortable in every respect. Easy to find and well signposted. Bird life prolific with lovely walks around in the countryside.
