Description

A wonderful relaxing hideaway, with its own private garden and parking space. Perfect for couples. Close to the centre of this beautiful and historic market town with its twice-weekly market and many independent shops and restaurants. Also not far from the Arc shopping centre and the stunning Apex entertainment centre. Bury St Edmunds is a little-known gem of a town and its location at the heart of East Anglia gives easy access to the coast, to Cambridge and to the many beautiful Suffolk villages such as Lavenham. Awaiting Visit England grading in the autumn but everything planned to 4 star self-catering standard. A bottle of fizz and some nibbles will be waiting for you and the basics such as tea, coffee, milk and shampoo are provided.

The Hideaway at Durbar is a self-contained annexe to our home. If we are here, we will be happy to give you any information you need about the town and help with recommendations for restaurants or nearby tourist highlights.

Horse racing at Newmarket is one of the highlights of the Suffolk calendar from April to October and the racecourse is about 20 minutes' drive. Bury St Edmunds is the home of Greene King Brewery and a tour of the brewery, with panoramic views from the top of the brew house and an opportunity to taste the many beers brewed here, is a highlight of any stay in the town.

Cambridge is just 30 minutes' drive or a short train ride. There are several National Trust houses to explore nearby, including the unusual and remarkable Ickworth House which is just outside the town. It is an easy and pleasant drive out to the coast, with the scenic route passing through many beautiful villages on the way.

There is a sofa bed and additional guests can be accommodated (at an additional cost) but bear in mind that access to the bathroom is through the bedroom, so you would need to be VERY good friends or family!

We also have an apartment on the Suffolk coast in Southwold (have a look at 'Comfy 1 bedroom near beach' in Holiday Lettings listing). Why not extend your stay in Suffolk and spend a few days in Bury St Edmunds and then a few days on the coast?

A little bottle of fizz and a bottle of Greene King ale (Bury St Edmunds is the home of Greene King, after all!) awaits, plus basics such as tea, biscuits, coffee and milk.

You can arrive any time after 4pm and we ask you to leave by 11am to allow us to prepare for the next guests.

If you would like to stay longer than a week, please send me a message as I can offer a discount according to the length of stay.

“Mrs”

Our stay at The Hideaway was very relaxing. Juliana was most welcoming & the 'care pack' on arrival was a lovely gesture. The accommodation was tasteful & homely, comfortable & clean, well equipped & warm. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom is spacious with a superb shower. There is access to a small garden area - ideal if you have children. Located only a short walk into Bury, which has a wealth of history, plenty of shops, restaurants & pubs. Would definitely recommend a visit.

“Everything we needed and more!”

Reviewed 27 Jul 2016

The annex is very comfortable and well equipped with everything you needed in the kitchen including a freezer, washing machine & dryer and plenty of hot water. Shower in the bathroom is brilliant and spacious. Although an easy walking distance to town it is still quiet and it's lovely to be able to open french doors onto the garden and sit outside should you wish. The friendly owners live next door so are on hand if you need them but do not intrude. An added bonus is off road car parking for a short car - ours isn't and we could park it but it needed a bit of maneouvering but there is plenty of parking just around the corner and a residents parking permit is available (not needed 3pm - 9am). So much better than staying in a hotel its a real home from home and will book again when returning to the area

“Excellent location”

Reviewed 12 Jan 2016

Great location near town centre with parking for a small car. Very comfortable, helpful host. Recommended.

Thank you so much for your positive review and I'm really glad you enjoyed your stay. Just a note regarding parking which you mentioned: there is space for all sizes of vehicle, it just takes a little manoeuvring or, alternatively, I can offer a resident's parking permit for on street parking nearby. The choice is up to guests' preferences.
