The England region

An area on the south-central coast of England, The New Forest covers approximately 150 square miles and exists solely after it was designated a Royal Hunting Ground by King William I in 1079AD.

It was in March 2005 that The New Forest National Park was created because of it's unique importance and to ensure a safe and secure future for the area.

Both Bournemouth and Southampton International Airports are close by with easy access by road and rail. The rail journey from London takes just one and a half hours on a major railway line which runs through the National Park stopping at several stations across the area.

Burley is a small quaint village untouched by time and set in the heart of The New Forest National Park, where ponies and donkeys roam freely. Burley has great access from both the A31 and A35.

South East England

Steeped in old customs and a colourful history of witchcraft, dragons and smugglers, Burley attracts Visitors looking to unwind in it's quiet atmosphere whilst enjoying a selection of unique shops and quaint tearooms.

Burley also has a Cider Farm which offers free cider tasting, Traditional Inns and pubs, seasonal Wagonette rides, a Deer Safari, Bike hire, Horse Riding, a Golf Course, wonderful Forest Walks and of course the famous Burley Ice Cream and home made fudge.

Not placed too far from bordering Dorset the more energetic and young families can also benefit from more attractions and activities situated in the seaside towns as far as the Jurassic coastline of Dorset and surrounding countryside.

“A lovely little bolt hole”

Reviewed 2 Oct 2016

A really homely place right in the heart of one of the quieter parts of the New Forest, with loads of walks starting literally on your doorstep. Extremely warm and comfortable, and we hope to return in the near future. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Glad you enjoyed your stay so much and of course we look forward to the opportunity of welcoming you again in the future. Thank you for taking the time to review us - always appreciated.

“A beautiful and peaceful place to stay.”

Bracken wood is in a beautiful setting in the new forest. You just had to cross the road and then you were in the forest, lots of ponies to see and beautiful heather. The house was very homely and comfortable and had everything you needed. It was excellent for our Labrador who loved it and our teenage daughter. We would highly recommend a stay here.

A lovely review, thank you. The heather in the Forest at this time of year is quite a display of colour against all the different greens you see at this time of year. Lovely too are all the colours of Autumn so perhaps another trip is needed! Anyway, delighted you all had a wonderful time and we hope to welcome you back again in the future.

“Best house in the villlage”

Reviewed 4 Aug 2016

We stayed here for three nights with the dog. The house is so cosy and relaxing.we brought more stuff than we needed as everything is there including dog bowls, tea, milk, sugar and wine!. The dog coudn't wait to get through the front door and he settled in immediately. This was his first holiday and I wasn't sure if he would - a perfect sign of a welcoming house in a great area! He had a huge smile on his face the whole time. The doggy bath was really useful to wash the sea water and sand off him after coming back from the beach. The village itself is very friendly and the furry bloke was welcome everywhere. The forrest is right on the doorstep which made a welcome change from taking him on the bus to the parks which we have to do back home. We brought the car but you don't really need it as there are tour buses that take you around. This holiday exceeded expectations. What started out as a short break for the dog turned out to be a great holiday for everyone with more to do and see than expected, even just hanging out in the lovely relaxing house was great in itself! I will be back again for a longer stay.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay and we're delighted your stay exceeded expectations and the doggy shower bath was so useful. Our dog owning guests really do seem to appreciate it and it certainly does make life easier - especially in the more muddy seasons! We look forward to welcoming you again in the future.

“In an ideal location.”

Reviewed 1 Apr 2013

We spent 4 lovely days at Brackenwood, shame about the weather! The cottage is ideally located, for exploring Burley, the whole of the Forest and beyond. Unfortunately it rained most of the time we were there, but the cottage was so warm and cosy with everything we needed. All in all a great cottage to stay in..

Great to hear that you had a lovely time despite the weather! The New Forest has so much to offer that even unfortunate weather doesn’t stop the enjoyment. We like our Visitors to feel at home so I’m pleased you felt Brackenwood had everything you needed for a cosy stay too.

“Comfortable and cozy”

Reviewed 18 Feb 2013

The house was in a lovely village will all the necessary amenities and a couple of very nice pubs. It's within touching distance of some lovely walks and bike rides, and not to mention the horses that roam freely around the village. The house itself was very nice, comfortable and complete with everything anyone would need to stay there. The only thing I would say that as the aga has to stay on all the time, whilst in February it was a lovely bonus, but could be an issue in the summer! Overall a lovely stay and would definitely recommend.

Thank you for reviewing Brackenwood and I'm really pleased you enjoyed your stay so much. The Aga is lovely and helps to make the house really cosy in Winter - but worry not in the Summer it has different settings, still allowing the supply of plenty of hot water and of course great cooking - but without heating the whole house too.

“Absolutely lovely!”

Reviewed 21 Aug 2012

My partner and I had a wonderful time staying at Brackenwood, which is situated in the charming village of Burley and only a minute from its center. The cottage was extremely comfortable, with lots of space; it felt like home and had everything we needed (including a welcoming bottle of wine!) for the perfect holiday. Since we were there in the summer, we used the beautiful back garden every day for al fresco dining. It was the perfect base for exploring the New Forest, and we will definitely be back in future. Brackenwood exceeded our expectations in every way.

Thank you for such great comments and I’m really pleased you were able to make good use of the garden for some al fresco dining. Sounds like you put the barbecue to good use!

“A wedding in the New Forest”

Reviewed 2 Aug 2012

Our son was having a marriage ceremony at the Burley Youth Hostel and a reception at the Burley Village Hall. This cottage was ideal for our purposes, enabling four of the family to stay in comfortable and well equipped surroundings. A Tuesday to Tuesday option was excellent, straddling the Saturday of the wedding. Very handy for the amenities of Burley, including the village hall and of course the New Forest is on it's doorstep. There was plenty of space to organise ourselves and Wi-fi to help with last minute communications. All round it was fit for purpose! We need to plan to return for a more relaxing holiday.

We were really pleased to hear that the wedding went so well and you found the new booking flexibility policy useful when planning your stay. The option of flexible booking was initially introduced as a trial but we have already decided to continue and further expand the idea due to the amount of positive feedback we’ve already received. We look forward to welcoming you back for your more relaxing stay - perhaps for the first anniversary?

“Family Friendly and good location”

Reviewed 10 Jul 2012

A lovely cottage, with the added luxury of an aga - though the fire alarm did not necessarily appreciate my attempts of cooking on it! Useful touches include washing machine and tumble drier - though an airer may be useful for future reference (if the weather is kind enough!!) located in the garage annexe. As the weather was rainy for much of our stay, we didn't make much use of the outdoor area, but the children were able to run around safely enough, as a gate separates from the front garden. The cottage is located on the main road into Burley, but no issues with traffic - Not far from the cider farm - highly recommended. The village itself has a lovely grocery store and post office, as well as a variety of souvenier/nick nack shops. The pubs are close by too. Brackenwood is opposite the woods, which lead onto the open heathland, very good for those afternoon walks!

Thank you for your review and comments and I’m so pleased you enjoyed the Aga. Hopefully the tips we have in the household manual and cookery books were useful to you but I’m sorry you didn’t see the airer because we do have one! It was a shame the weather wasn’t kinder to you but I’m delighted it didn’t stop you from getting out to explore the lovely Village and surrounding area.

“Another wonderfully relaxing stay”

Reviewed 6 Jul 2012

The house is in a fantastic location with the New Forest quite literally at your doorstep. It has everything you need and definitely feels like a home from home. There is so much in the New Forest to see and do and Brackenwood is only ever a short drive away. The local pub does delicious food and a local shop does amazing ice creams! I would certainly recommend staying here to friends and family. Young children are welcome as there is a cot and high chair which can be used. The owner Ros is very friendly and helpful. Our son lost a toy fireman in the house, we couldn't find him after searching everywhere and had to leave without him. We left a message at the house in case he was found. Ros was kind enough to post him back when she found him.

Thank you for such great comments and I’m really pleased you were able to make good use of the garden for some al fresco dining. Sounds like you put the barbecue to good use!
