Location description from owner

The East Anglia region

The Waveney Valley is at the junction of Norfolk and Suffok, unlike the north of Norfolk it is relatively unknown. just inland from Southwold, Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft, they are easy to reach from this area. The Market towns of Beccles and Bungay are delightfully untouched and have a lot of rural charm. There are many local shops that are unique, selling all sorts of things from local food and crafts to antiques and hand made furniture. This area is the most southerly tip of the Norfolk Broads and there are lots of places to get on or near the water. There are plenty of good bicycle routes and some lovely walking that is not too strenuous.

This area of England has the highest sunshine hours and very low rainfall.

There are lots of historic places to visit, a wealth of beautiful gardens and half timbered towns and villages to explore. From Waveney the areas of the North Norfolk coast are about an hour away, as is Constable country.

The area is well known for antiques and local auction houses. Many eateries pride themselves on producing high quality food using local ingredients. Away from London and the honeypots of Southwold and Aldeburgh on the coast, the prices are usually very reasonable for a delicious meal using local produce.

Bungay

Bungay is famous for its great fire at the same time as London's, and for the legend of The Black Dog.It hosts several thriving street markets during the year including a large antiques fair in the spring. It is a quiet market town with some lovely and unique shops and an historic castle. Nestling in a big bend of the River Waveney it is surrounded by classic grazing marshes. The town is very unspoilt, still retaining its weekly market (Thursdays) It has a small local theatre and a relatively new gym, fitness and swimming centre. There are no big supermarket chains and most of the shops are owned and run by locals, including a bridal wear shop, gallery, antiques centre and much, much more. The Castle Inn serves good locally sourced food and won the Suffolk food pub of the year award. the area is a haven for artists and Bungay has a very good art shop.

There are some lovely garden centres and nurseries in the area, some specialising in unusual plants.

Boating cycle hire and Canoeing are available on the river at Bungay common, and the famous Waveney Valley Golf Club is also situated on Bungay common.
