The England region

Cornwall is a popular holiday destination with nearly 700km of coastline and more than 300 beaches. Popular with all generations, its mild climate, golden beaches, dramatic surf and colourful past of smugglers and pirates will make your stay in Cornwall a memorable one. Whether youre after activities, romance, exploring or a family holiday, Cornwall is the place for you.

With over 60 miles of dramatic Atlantic coastline, North Cornwall is a beautiful destination. North Cornwall has some of the cleanest beaches in the region, from quiet coves, to rolling surf, to family beach resorts, where youngsters can enjoy a bucket and spade holiday. Seafood lovers will want to venture to the pretty Cornish fishing village of Padstow (an hours drive from Bude), famous for its restaurants. With such glorious natural beauty, rich history and fine food, North Cornwall is an ideal destination for a self catering holiday.

Whilst there is plenty to occupy holiday makers in and around Bude, the more restless visitor can make Bude their base from which to explore Devon and Cornwall. Bude is well-situated for some of Cornwalls best attractions.

Bude

The surrounding countryside to Bude is amongst some of the most picturesque in Cornwall with much of the coastline around Bude designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, whilst the famous Bude Canal is an extraordinary engineering feat of the early 19th century, with an awesome cafe at the end to enjoy a well-deserved coffee, after a stroll along the canal.

With the North Cornwall coast providing some of the finest surfing in the country, Bude and many of its surrounding beaches are popular all year round. These beautiful sandy beaches provide the perfect setting to relax and unwind with friends and family; with most having lifeguard cover over the summer months.

There are eight beaches in and around Bude, including Widemouth bay which has over 2 miles of sandy beach at low tide and is the perfect beach for rock pooling. Crooklets Beach, our local beach, is called the "Bondi of Britain" and provides ideal conditions for surfers with regular surf and life-saving demonstrations throughout the year. Summerleaze, a 10 minute walk from the property is another beautiful beach with a great cafe overlooking it, which is well worth a visit. Northcott is another beach which is 10 minutes walk from the property. It is secluded spot where you can enjoy some peace and quiet.

Bude town and attractions

Bude has a selection of unique independent shops, a large supermarket, tennis courts, crazy golf, an 18 hole golf course and a modern indoor heated swimming pool.

There are also many other recreational activities available throughout the area including climbing, abseiling, coastal traversing, coasteering, windsurfing, kayaking canoeing and orienteering

A must for any visit to the North Coast is enjoying walking on part of the South West Coast path. The dramatic and ever-changing coastline provides some spectacular scenery and breathtaking views.

“Brilliant all round accomodation”

Reviewed 17 Jul 2016

This house is an excellent choice for familys, its location and spacious well equipped interior made it so easy for every aspect needed. There is a small safe garden with even a few toys for small children, its closeness to the beach was ideal too. Ample shops within a few minutes walk including a major supermarket for all your needs but quiet and relaxing in the evening. We will definitley return!

Thank you so much for your lovely review - we would love to welcome you back! Sarah

“Perfect pad in prime position”

Reviewed 30 Apr 2013

We stayed at Haruru House during the Easter bank holiday and had a fantastic time. The house itself is perfectly positioned near Crooklets beach, which is a stunning location and perfect for surfing. Also, Summerleaze beach is only a short walk away and Widemouth beach a five minute drive. It's is a five minute walk into Bude town centre from the house, you can grab a cracking breakfast at the cafes on Crooklets beach, or for a delicious lunch or lovely dinner, it is a very short walk to Life's A Beach or the Riverside Cafe. The house is modern, spacious and immaculately presented, with three spacious twin/double bedrooms and a sociable kitchen/diner/lounge. Our 10 year old son loved the widescreen TV, PS2 and leather recliners, describing the house as "brilliant"! The kitchen has everything needed for self catering, and Sainsburys is only a five minute walk away. The linen and towels provided were clean and luxurious. All in all we had a lovely stay at Haruru House and can't wait to stay there again. We would thoroughly recommend it.

“You have to stay here !!!!”

Reviewed 29 Apr 2013

Clean, bright, spacious, private and extremely beautiful. Whether you love the beach for sports, walking or just for the children, this house is about 3 minutes’ walk away from a clean, accessible and breath taking beach with amazing views, clean sand and crystal clear rock pools. The water is perfect for those who love to surf or do other activities. You can walk the beach easily and come off at several points to join the headland which offers breath-taking views across the bays. The house itself has a lovely safe, private and enclosed garden which traps the sunshine and has all home from home comforts. 3 good size bedrooms one is en-suite, comfortable living area with great views and modern and bright kitchen with all the equipment you need. Check out the reclinable sofa's after a busy day - you will love them and won’t want to move !! There are also two TVs, one in the upper bedroom and one in the living room which also has a decent size dining area. The private parking, close to the house was a bonus. It is within easy walking of two friendly public houses, cafe and seaside-shop serving delicious Cornish pasties and other goodies. The town is in walking distance if you are able to, or a very short drive away. It has all you need from local hostelries to little shops and those with essentials. There is a supermarket not too far away for any last minute bbq requirements !! :) All the locals we met were friendly and hospitable and were happy to advise on places to visit further afield. The Otter Sanctuary about half an hour’s drive away is a must if you have children (or just if you are a child at heart!!). There are also deer there which are amazing and tame and lots of other wildlife in a beautiful forest setting - watch out for the turkey though he might give you a fright !! I would highly recommend this house and the area of Bude. Cannot think of anything that I wanted or needed that I didn’t have or could not get and will definitely be going back shortly. Go book it !!!!!
