Description

Located in an exclusive neighbourhood in the city-centre and about 10 minutes' walk from the river Danube, our apartment is the perfect base for exploring this great city. Parks, shops and public transport are all within 5 minutes of the doorstep. A 15 minute leisurely walk takes you to the historic St. Luke Spa Baths (Lukács Fürdö) popular with Budapest's creative community. The Castle District and caves, Andrássy Avenue, the Hungarian Parliament, the State Operahouse - indeed the whole World Heritage area are within very easy reach.

When we saw the apartment we decided straight away that this was it - even though it needed a major renovation at the time ! We bought it as a home, when we lived in Budapest; not as investment to rent out. The apartment was built in 1920 and its high ceilings, great use of space, creative plan and the large bay windows make this a very bright, airy but 'natural' space to live in. Thick walls keep it cool in the summer and, along with a very effective heating system, keep it warm and cosy in the winter. We continue to use the apartment to host friends and family during our stays in Budapest throughout the year.

Although there is plenty to see and do within walking distance, for further exploring you might want to use the public transport network which covers the city with excellent services. Our apartment is 200m from the crucial, modern, and 24h(!) tram route number 4/6which crosses the road at the end of our street (i.e. not rumbling past the apartment!). The M2 (red) metro line stops 10 minute's walk from the door – or 2 stops on the 4/6 tram. There is a car park within 5 minutes, in addition to the parking on the street outside the door.

A major shopping centre (Mammut) and its adjoining (excellent) traditional food market are both within a 10 minute's walk. The Mammut shopping centre has a modern multiplex cinema which regularly shows films in the original language (often English). Even closer are four neighbourhood supermarkets – one of which is open 24h, a fruit'n veg. shop, a drug store (health/beauty products store), a pharmacy, and bakery. For children there are two very good playgrounds close by. It's ideal for couples, families or small groups on holiday in Budapest. There are also several eateries very nearby. There is a dentist virtually next door and several others nearby.

Location description from owner

The Central Hungary region

Budapest - capital of Hungary and pearl of the Danube. A great city to explore, laden with history, sights and wonderful views. It also has more than it's fair share of excellent restaurants and cultural attractions such as the Opera and the Palace of Arts (Concert hall). Autumn is a great time to visit - as the town cools down from the heat of the Summer. The early autumn brings wine festivals and late autumn brings colourful Advent fairs. In winter, the city is often very beautiful in the snow.

Budapest

The Castle District is 15mins walk from the door and the Danube 10 mins. The tram is 3 minutes walk and opens the whole city up to you (see below).

Near the apartment we have a great Italian restaurant (400m) - Porcellino Grasso while the Café at the foot of the hill (100m) is ideal for a cake/snack. There is a well-stocked supermarket within 5 mins (300m) walk and a 24hr grocery store 320m away. There are two parks close by - the Mechwart Liget and the Milleniáris. Both have great playgrounds for children.

The arterial and very new No.4/6 tram which runs all night (every 15 mins at night) stops ~250m from the door as it crosses the road at the end of our street (i.e. not rolling past the apartment!). The M2 (red) metro line stops 10 minutes (800m) walk from the door – or 2 stops on the 4/6 tram. With these two major public transport connections you can reach all of the city with ease.
