Location description from owner

The Abruzzo region

The stunning region of Abruzzo has until now thankfully avoided mass tourism. It has everything for the explorer and tourist: blue flag beaches, spectacular natural scenery, sparkling lakes, medieval castles and villages, monasteries, and Roman ruins. Two-thirds of the Abruzzo's land is mountainous with the rest being hills and coast. A third of the region is designated as national or regional parkland. All of the parks have great hiking and biking trails. The Majella National Park is host to a number of ski resorts including Passo Lanciano which can be seen from Villa Leonardo and is a short 25minute drive away.

Abruzzo's food, based on peasant dishes is hearty and inexpensive. Lamb and pork dishes dominate inland whilst on the coast there are many fish dishes.

Abruzzo's location and great transport links makes it easily accessible from Rome which is just a short 2 hour drive away.

“Fantastic place to stay”

Reviewed 24 Sep 2013

A beautiful apartment, with gorgeous views from all 3 balconies. Lovely views also from the courtyard and plunge pool. Owners are really friendly and couldn't do enough for us during our stay. Welcome pack was a lovely surprise after our journey. Our 2 year old loved the dog, cat and feeding the geese during our stay. Thanks for a great week.

We are so glad that you and your family enjoyed your stay with us here. It's always great to know that the animals provide entertainment value aswell! Many thanks & hoping to see you all again some day soon!

“Stunning views, and amazing hosts !”

Reviewed 26 Aug 2013

Frankie and Joe deserve all the plaudits for their attention to detail at their beautiful property, and the amazing efforts they put in to help their guests . We had the double bedroom apartment which has loads of floor space. and comfortable beds . Our girls loved the plunge pool, Mrs M took to her sketch pad from the various balcony's and sun terraces whilst I used it as a base to get some mountain miles in on a hired road bike. Frankie showed how good they are as hosts by diligently researching and arranging the perfect carbon bike for me . Bucchianico is great for those who love the outdoors and good local food . As a base for biking it is brilliant . We would love to come back soon not least to see Layla the dog , Buddy the cat, the chickens , turkeys, and geese. ...,Oh ..,,and Joe and Frankie :) Ciao. Robin Isobel Eimear and Kobi

Hi, what a fantastic review! Thank you so much, it is always helpful to hear what we are doing right! It was a pleasure to have you all here. We would be interested to see copies of some of those sketches! We are glad you were happy with the bike supplier that we have been using ..... just let us know when you are coming back again .. maybe you can compete in or come back and watch the Giro D'Italia next year. Looking forward to seeing you all again very soon. Ciao from Frankie, Joe, Layla, Buddy and all the feathered animals!!

“Great Appartment in a beautiful location”

Reviewed 28 Jul 2013

My wife and I with our two teenage children stayed with Joe and Frankie for two weeks in July. They were great hosts and were always on hand with helpful advice. Frankie had prepared a file of local restaurants, place to visits etc and we found this particularly helpful. We found the location to be very beautiful and the charming hill top town of Bucchianico and the locality had a great range of excellent restaurants. The piazza was the centre of the village life and a great place to enjoy an icecream, coffee or beer. The appartment was superb it was fully equiped and clinically clean when we arrived. Although in land the nearest beach was only 10 miles away, the city of Pescara also close by was a great day out for shopping. We travelled to Rome for a day trip (2 hours by coach) and visited many of the local towns, Guardiagrele and Chieti in particular were great places to visit. My son and I with Frankie's help hired a couple of road bikes and this give us the opportunity to explore some of the lesser travelled roads. The terrain is hilly, challenging for a cyclist with the mountains as a background and very picturesque. I would throughly recommend this location for families or couples.

Hi, thanks for your excellent & very kind review!! We are so glad to have met you all and delighted that you enjoyed the local area as much as we do..we love sharing it with others. Also thanks for your positive feedback about our apartments and the service that we offer. Hopefully we will see you very soon .....maybe next year with the rest of your family!! Frankie & Joe
