Description

Close to Bryson City and the Polar Express; this very unique and secluded structure was originally built to be a school house and now serves as an excellent place to host large and small groups alike visiting the Smokies. As you begin the 3 mile drive from the Smoky Mountain Country Club, and “civilization”, up the winding gravel mountain road you can let all of your cares disappear. Once you pass the gates and arrive on the property, you will emerge out of the morning mountain fog and overhead trees to the delightful opening on which the property rests. Once you have parked your vehicle, enjoy the peaceful sounds of the mountain streams on both sides of the lodge. There is signage for the Upper and Lower Hive to assist you with parking. We try our best to be as environmentally and people friendly as possible and proudly use Mrs. Meyers cleaning products as well as hydrogen-peroxide based cleaning products in the bathrooms.

The Upper Hive has a wheelchair accessible entrance. As you enter we hope you enjoy the signature Hive Lodge scent of local beeswax and 100% all-natural lemongrass essential oils. As you enter it's now your choice to have a seat in the living room or head directly to the screened in porch. Be careful because you may not get anything else done as you have a seat in one of the rocking chairs taking in the views and listening to the peaceful streams!

The Upper Level features 3 bedrooms with 2.5 Baths each with custom furniture and themed artwork by the owners. There are a total of 5 beds on the upper level. The Waterrock Knob bedroom features one queen bed and one twin bed that overlooks Newfound Gap and Waterrock Knob in the distance. On clear nights you can lay in bed and see the stars or the moonlit mountain outlines. When you awake in the morning, allow the sunrise over Water Rock Knob and the fading fog to clear your mind and give you a fresh perspective for the day. You will love waking up in this room! The waterfall themed room also features a super comfy queen bed with local waterfalls displayed on the walls. The larger bathroom is located just outside the bedroom door and features two individual toilets spaces, a shower, and three vanities! The back bedroom has another queen bed and twin bed as well. There is another bathroom on the upper level with a shower and tub combo. We do provide wash cloths, linens, and makeup towels in all of our bathrooms.

The Upper Level living room features two couches and multiple chairs providing a very comfortable space for watching the 55” HDTV on rainy days. The kitchen on the upper level is fully equipped including a refrigerator, oven/stove, dishwasher, standard drip coffee maker, and one roll of paper towels provided to our guests. You will absolutely love waking up and having coffee or breakfast in the all glass enclosed dining space. The dining room table will seat 8 people comfortably and is an excellent spot for your family dinners! There is a covered staircase on the bedroom side(right side) of the lodge to access both levels of the lodge as well as the upper and lower level entrances.

The Lower Hive features another 3 very large bedrooms and 3 bathrooms with a total of 6 beds in the space. As you enter the spacious and fully equipped kitchen you can already picture cooking a great meal for your family in the space. Just like the upstairs, the Lower level has an all glass enclosure holding a large dining room table that will seat 10 comfortably. Just past the enormous rock fireplace (this cannot be used by guests at this time) head to the living room area for a relaxing time with your group or family members. There are two large couches, many comfortable single rocker chairs, and the ultimate custom made movie lounge seat complete with with a built in three sided coffee table. It's perfect for your family to watch sports or movies on the 70” TV! You can enjoy a game of pool on our professional Brunswick billiards table or a game of darts in this entertaining space as well!

Just off the Lower Level living room is a bathroom complete with a shower and the Fontana themed room. It features a plush queen hybrid mattress and is decorated with items from the majestic Fontana Lake just a few miles away. Our “Mountain Views” bedroom is located on the opposite side of the house and features 2 queen beds with the bedroom overlooking The Great Smoky Mountains in the distance. There is also an exterior door that provides covered access to the Upper Level. The last bedroom on the Lower Level features 2 hybrid queen beds and a single futon with a Tempur Pedic mattress. There is a very large bathroom outside of this bedroom that you will find has plenty of space for your family! There is another bathroom on the lower level with a shower and tub combo as well. We provide wash cloths, linens, and makeup towels in all of our bathrooms for your use.

The outdoor space features a fire pit and hammock with the best views!

Getting around

Please note some people are not comfortable driving two wheel drive up the two steep incline turns. Four wheel drive is not necessary but makes some who are not used to mountain roads a bit more comfortable. We have had about every type of vehicle up to the Lodge with no issues; it really is about guests comfort level with mountain roads. Please maintain a 10-12 MPH speed limit to have the best ride up. Four wheel drive is a must in the event of inclement weather.
