Description from owner

Description

A charming village house in Provence

The house, built in 1778, is a traditional, stone-built village house at the centre of the tranquil hamlet of Brujas and was used latterly as a magnanerie, breeding silk worms for the then important silk industry of the area, until the 1950's.

It has been recently lovingly restored and stylishly furnished, creating a bright, spacious, well-equipped,charming holiday home for a couple or family, close to the renaissance town of Barjac.

The pretty south-facing terrace with table and chairs, overlooks the attractive, small, walled, courtyard garden. Stone steps lead down into the garden which has jasmine, oleander, a grapevine and, in late spring, masses of perfumed climbing roses.

In the cobbled streets of nearby Barjac there are numerous restaurants and shops, including award-winning butchers, charcuteries, bakers and a well-stocked supermarket.

The Rhône-Alpes region

The region offers a multitude of opportunities for the holidaymaker. For those seeking the countryside, the Cevennes National Park and the mountains of the Ardeche to the north are within easy reach. The region is a well-known wine growing area notably, the wines of the Rhone Valley, the Ardeche and the Vivarais. There are many vineyards in the area where you can find something for every palette.

The Cote du Rhone villages and Chateauneuf du Pape are just over an hour away.

For the full provencal experience, go south to the town of Uzes with its famous Place Aux Herbes and visit its twice weekly markets.

Avignon, Nimes, Orange and Arles are within easy driving distance, each with its own special character.

The beaches of the mediterranean coast and the Camargue make an excellent day trip for those seeking sun and sand.

Brujas

Brujas is in the very south of the Ardeche department. Walk a few hundred yards and you will be in the Gard department. This area is known locally as the "Gardeche". Brujas lies between the Ardeche and Ceze rivers famed for their dramatic scenery, beaches and the opportunity to explore by canoe. The nearby town of Barjac, recently awarded the title "Village of Character" by the French state is an attractive small town with all facilities including a regular weekly market and a cinema in the chateau. Every Easter and in mid-August the town is taken over by a world-famous antiques fair.

The area is noted for its outdoor activities such as horse riding, canoeing, cycling, walking, canyoning, climbing and caving.

The climate is mediterranean and is normally very warm in summer. Spring and early autumn are normally extremely pleasant months

for those seeking a more temperate climate.
