Les Hiboux is a holiday house / gite set in the heart of the French countryside, close to the towns of Brossac, Chalais and Aubeterre-sur-Dronne in the Poitou Charentes region in the south-west of France. We also offer bed and breakfast accommodation for those looking for a shorter stay.

We primarily cater to family holidays in France. The two bedroom house / gite and the Poitou Charentes region is ideal for families with young children. We offer the perfect place for parents to relax, while providing a safe haven for children to play and enjoy themselves.

The two bedroom gite is contained in one end of a 17th century stone farmhouse and has full amenities and a private garden. It is set in two acres of land, to which you and your family have full access, and there is a ten metre long, one metre deep fenced swimming pool that is ideal for children.

The holiday house / gite has a securely fenced private garden. There is extensive room for children to run and play safely within the grounds of the main house. As well as the shallow swimming pool, there is a secret wendy house hidden in our bamboo forest where children can play, and we have a large trampoline and swings, as well as a large selection of toys and games to keep your children entertained. We have chickens (safely contained in a large run), and the children are welcome to help us collect the eggs in the morning.

All guests are provided with a small welcome pack (milk, bread, wine) and welcome drink on arrival. If requested the previous day, we will collect and deliver fresh bread/croissants for breakfast. The two bedroom gite has a full kitchen, but if you don't fancy cooking we can provide your family with cheap evening meals freshly made with local produce, much of it from our own garden.

We understand that you want to spend time with your children on holiday, but that it's also nice to escape by yourselves. We offer a complementary babysitting service, and are quite happy to drop you off at a local restaurant for a lunchtime or evening meal. We want the whole family to enjoy themselves on their holiday in Poitou Charentes.

We can provide high chairs, baby baths etc. if required.

Les Hiboux is six kilometres away from the lovely small hilltop town of Brossac. The pretty town of Brossac offers restaurants, bakeries (boulangeries), butchers (boucheries), banking, a pharmacy and postal service. Twenty minutes away is the town of Chalais, at which you can find a busy Monday market and an impressive hilltop Chateau.

Brossac is at a convenient crossroads to the Dordogne, Charente Maritime, and Aquitaine, each no more than 15 minutes away. We are also within easy access of day visits to the major destinations of Bordeaux, Cognac, St Emilion, Angouleme and more.

The Poitou Charentes region, in the south-west of France, is less well-known than other holiday regions of France, and we love it for that reason. Life here in the Poitou Charentes is simple and sedate, perfect for a relaxing peaceful holiday, and ideal for an affordable family holiday.

The region has many kinds of natural beauty, from the Atlantic coast, to the undulating green hills inland, to the foothills of the Massif Central. If you are looking for beaches, there are many swimming lakes with lake beaches, as well as the beaches of the Atlantic coast. If you are looking to explore nature, the gentle inland scenery provides great opportunities for walking, cycling and horse-riding. If you are looking for culture, there are many historic towns, chateaus and monuments to visit. If you are simply looking to relax with your children in peaceful surroundings then Poitou Charentes is the perfect spot for you.

The climate of the Poitou Charentes is one of the sunniest outside of the Mediterranean coastal areas. However the sunny summer weather is ideal for families with young children because gentle onshore breezes help to prevent the oppressive heat that you can find on the Mediterranean coastline. Average summer temperatures are around 28-30°C.
