Fairburn is within walking distance to beautiful sandy beaches and fantastic moorland and countryside walks. There is also plenty of great golf and fishing close by in Brora and Helmsdale. Slightly further afield are the Orkneys and John O'Groats to the north and Inverness, Dornoch (with its Cathedral and famous golf course) and Golspie to the south. Fairburn is a great base to explore the beautiful region of the Northern Highlands.

Location description from owner

The Scotland region

The Scottish Highlands don't really need too much of an introduction. They are rich in history with nature in abundance.

Brora and Helmsdale are typical Highland villages. Both have busy fishing harbours and shops, restuarants and pubs. There are also golf courses in both villages as well as slightly further afield in Golspie and Dornoch.

Brora

There is plenty of fishing available nearby. There is the whisky distillery 'Clynelish' in Brora which offers tours for those who like to indulge in a 'wee dram'. The fantastic sandy beaches on this part of the Moray Firth stretch for miles and are generally quiet and a great place to walk. There is lots of history. For example there is the Timespan museum in Helmsdale, Dunrobin Castle and Grounds/Falconry in Golspie. Further north is the gateway to the Orkneys and the interesting towns of Thurso and Wick in Caithness. Inverness is a very lively city just over an hour to the south with lots to see and do.

“Fabulous views, luxurious cottage”

Reviewed 8 Apr 2013

I have just spent an amazing week at this beautiful cottage with my partner & 2 children (11 & 15). Those views! What a way to wake up every morning. The cottage has 3 very good sized bedrooms with plenty of storage, a great (new?) kitchen/dining room with full-size fridge freezer, washing machine and dishwasher. The owners even left dishwasher tablets & washing powder...very generous. There is a conservatory on the side of the cottage, leading from a very comfortable living room which has huge windows to take advantage of the views. We were able to use the log burner which had been left made-up for us. My partner's parents live along the road and we couldn't believe our luck in finding such a fantastic cottage so close by. We will definitely be staying at Fairburn in the future!

Owner's reply: Many thanks! We're really pleased you enjoyed your holiday. Please come again sometime. You'll be most welcome!
