Location description from owner

The England region

The New Forest is undoubtedly one of the UK's premier tourist attractions. Every year visitors from all walks of life come here to experience its natural beauty. To the south, The New Forest runs down to the coast, offering views over the Solent and across to the Isle of Wight.

The New Forest heathlands and forest are in essence unchanged since they were given special protected status as a hunting ground by William the Conqueror over 900 years ago. That status has recently been enhanced by announcement that The New Forest is now a National Park. In fact, only about half of The New Forest is actually woodland; the remainder is open heathland, which bursts with colour in the summer and autumn months. The area is ideal for walking, cycling, sailing and horseriding and there are also plentiful beaches within easy reach.

Within the area there are inter-city rail links direct to Waterloo, as well as easy access to the M27 and the M3. There are also regular ferry crossings from Lymington to the Isle of Wight.

Brockenhurst

Brockenhurst is situated in the heart of the New Forest and offers a good selection of shops, pubs and restaurants as well as cycle hire and horse-riding stables. Ponies, cows and donkeys roam freely around the village and sometimes even pigs can be seen hunting for acorns! From Brockenhurst's mainline railway station, London Waterloo can be reached in just 90 minutes with the towns of Southampton and Bournemouth, with its seven miles of golden sands, sparkling sea, beautiful award-winning gardens and water sports galore, only 20 minutes away.

Even closer is the town of Lymington - a haven for yachting enthusiasts, who enjoy the advantages of the double tides, with it's marina edged with shops full of sea faring clothes and plenty of places to eat and drink. Cobbled streets and 17th century houses make Lymington a must for visitors. The High Street is full of interesting shops and every Saturday becomes a hive of activity when it is lined with market stalls selling everything from vegetables to fabric and tools to antiques. A walk along the river leads to the open air sea water swimming pool, children's sandpit, play area and a boating pool.

Passenger and car ferries to the Isle of Wight go from Lymington and take approximately 30 minutes, or visitors can cruise the Solent from the town quay.

Lovely house to stay in,we have stayed there the last 2 years over new year and its so cosy and homely. The owner is really helpful and leaves some nice welcome presents, wine and chocolates, bread and milk. There is so much space to spread out and play the games that are in the house, we all loved it.

Dearholm was ideal for our familyof five adults and two children, loadsa space in all aspects of the house, well decorated, very well equipped and everything worked.Enclosed back garden ideal for dog and 2yr old g/daughter.Everything neat and tidy inside and out and spotlessly clean.Off road parking for 2 cars was great.Location ideal-close to lovely village centre and its shops and in the middle of New Forest area.Very good value for money too.

“What a wonderful place for a holiday or short break”

This year will be our fourth time staying at Dearholm, the cottage has all the comforts of home , with plenty of space. The cottage is well equipped ,sheets, towels even down to a loo roll plus a wonderful welcome pack. With the cottage being dog friendly which is great as many are not , my two dogs love it here not wanting to go home. The location is ideal, just five minutes walk from Brockenhurst village and their fabulous bakery , just step into the new forest from the front gate and with numerous coastal destinations with in a short drive. The owners are very friendly and nothings a problem for them. I cant wait till July to just relax and unwind once again

“comfortable, well equipped, flexible sleeping arrangements”

Reviewed 14 Feb 2012

Very close to the station in a good location for the New Forest and local attractions. The house is well equipped, we cooked Sunday lunch for eight with no problem. The sleeping arrangements are flexible as there are 2 sofa beds down stairs. The two loos were very welcome! There is plenty of comfortable seating and the table easily sits eight. The separate sitting room with additional TV can double as a bedroom and would provide a quite space if a large family was staying. This is an ideal house for a large family or group of friends. The welcome pack is a lovely touch,

“Large but snug holiday home, with all facilities you could want.”

We stayed here at Christmas with our daughters and their other halves who all live in this area. We were able to comfortably host christmas here. We did full home cooking and had good space. There are loads of wardrobe space. We were really central and the train station is just around the corner. It is very quiet here of a night. The local area is beautiful with ponies everywhere. I would absolutely book this house again. Thank you for our holiday.

“Comfortable, well equipped and great location for access to the forest for walking and cycling”

A great week in the new forest with our dogs. The house was well decorated, comfortable and welcoming with everything we needed and everything you need to cook meals etc. Towels, sheets fittings all clean and good quality. Dogs were welcomed which is a refreshing change. Only 5 minutes from the coastal town of Lymington was an added bonus. We had a great time and would thoroughly recommend to friends. Owner was very helpful and great welcome pack of goodies and fast responses to questions during the booking stage.
