Location description from owner

The Dorset region

West Dorset is characterised by rolling hills, winding valleys, and beautiful villages. The area abounds in historic monuments and beautiful scenery.

The Jurasic coast is the only natural world heritage site in England and offers fantastic scenery and lovely beaches. The area is a walkers paradise and provides many opportunities for families and children. There are many historic houses and gardens many owned by the National Trust. There are wonderful beaches nearby which never get too crowded and also offer opportunities for fossil hunting, fishing and crabbing.

Broadwindsor

Broadwindsor is a conservation village, in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There is a pub in the village serving food, together with a lovely community shop and craft centre, which also has a cafe.

From the village there is great walking, up to Lewesdon Hill, being the highest point in Dorset and owned by the National Trust. Pilsden Pen is an ancient hill fort also walkable from the village and from the summit there are spectacular views over the countryside towards the coast.

Beaminster is a small historic town having a number of interesting shops, including gift and art shops, bank and restaurants. Bridport has a wonderful arty atmosphere and also has a good selection of shops and has a weekly flea market. Larger supermarkets are available in Crewkerne and Bridport.

There are several historic houses nearby including Mapperton House and Forde Abbey.
