Location description from owner
The Isle of Thanet region
With fast rail links to Ashford International and Ebbsfleet International, Europe is easily reached on Eurostar. The port of Dover is only 30 minutes drive away where you can hop on a ferry to France, making lunch in France a real possibility. Don't forget your passport!
Historic Canterbury is only a 30 minute drive away, with it's spectacular cathedral, city walls, restaurants, shops and parks. You can take a boat trip on the river to see the sights from a different perspective.
Step back in time at one of our nearby castles - Dover, Deal, Walmer, Leeds and Rochester Castles are all easily reached by car in under an hour.
Kent is the Garden of England and our extensive coastline boasts an array of blue flag award winning beaches and thrilling watersports. Explore our beautiful countryside, discover country lanes, orchards, vineyards and oast houses. England's oldest county is up to the minute though, with leading edge galleries, theatre and entertaining night life giving you so many things to do. Kent boasts outstanding golf clubs, including the famous St Georges at Sandwich.
A stroll around Broadstairs is a journey of discovery with a lovely surprise around every corner. Our most famous resident was Charles Dickens who spent much time here, writing many of his classic novels here. Visit the Dickens Museum and watch out for costumed characters during our annual Dickens Week (june)!
Walk around the Thanet coastline to explore our beautiful beaches and bays, each with its own character. Broadstairs' main beach is the unspoilt Viking Bay, no more than a few minutes' walk away from the Boat House, where you can still see much of Broadstairs' Victorian heritage. Viking bay has a small harbour with cafes and giftshops, with plenty of rockpools for crabbing and exploring. An old fashioned beach funfair complete with helter skelter and swingboats, and a traditional punch and judy show twice a day in high season means that there's plenty to keep everyone entertained. The Pavilion offers beachside drinks and lunches and you don't have to walk far to find fish and chips to eat on the beach!
Joss Bay is more rural and offers great surfing opportunities (check out Joss Bay Surf School), whilst Botany Bay is quieter and more secluded and can feel a million miles from anywhere - absolute bliss when you want to laze around and recharge your batteries. Drive south to Pegwell Bay Nature Reserve for birdwatching and wild ponies.
Although Broadstairs has kept much of its old fashioned charm and tranquility, we have a vibrant calendar of events ranging from the annual Dickens Festival (June), Water Gala (June) and Folk Week (Aug) to a great free summer entertainment programme with a weekly firework display during the school summer holidays.Broadstairs also hosts its own annual Food Festival Sept/ Oct, featuring local producers and restaurants, with free tastings and cookery demonstrations by top chefs. There are a mouth-watering number of restaurants, bistros, cafes and pubs to choose from - you could eat your way around the world.
Visit Ramsgate's Royal Harbour for a taste of the Mediterranean (on a sunny day!), to take out a boat for seal watching or sea fishing, or just to watch the boats from its many cafes and bars. Ramsgate and Margate host
their own annual festivals and events.

“A Broadstairs Gem”
This was an ideal stay for us. With our little boy and two doggies plus Brother and friends dropping in. Everything was spotless but The Boathouse has such a cosy feel to it too which just seems to instantly relax you. Good frontage to the Boathouse and an enclosed garden at the back which with two small doggies is a real bonus. A place to park your car which is fab if one of your party has limited mobility which one of our family does have. Location Location Location! Lovely spot - near the beach, amenities, walks, shops.....the lot. The owner has also been very thoughtful in the toys for children - all lovely and clean plus good vids and books and games for the grownups. A really lovely spot. A little gem in Broadstairs crown - a town which has so much to offer too. We will cerainly go again and would recommend the Boathouse to anyone.
Owner's reply: Thank you for your review I am glad you had a great time at the Boat house.
“Beautiful , great location and perfect for all family adults and children alike”
Fabulous stay, just what we wanted. The location is great, just off the high st, stones throw from beach. Comfortable , clean, well furnished. Spacious and ideal for 4-5 people. Cosy feel, nicely decorated. Parking great benefit.
“Boat House Magic”
From the moment we arrived at the Boat House we knew we had chosen well for our stay. Everthing we could possibly want was there. Towels were also provided, there was a lovely fresh loaf of bread and milk waiting on arrival. Heating is hardly needed but when it is the whole bungalow is hot in minutes. There was a lovely gated drive at the back. I have never stayed here before but most certainly will again and the communication with the owners was excellent. I highly recommend this lovely Boat House.
Owner's reply: Thanks for your great review we look forward to you staying with us again.
“Lovely accommodation situated in a great area.”
This Bungalow is lovely and very homely, with off street parking. It's situation is ideal for getting around the Thanet area and is easy walking distance to all that Broadstairs has to offer. We had a great holiday and would recommend it to anyone wishing to spend time in the area.
Owner's reply: Thanks for taking time to write such a lovely review. We hope to welcome you back one day to the Boat House.
“Fantastic cottage in perfect beach location”
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the boathouse. The place was immaculate. Extremely well positioned for the beach, which was a 5 min walk. Morelli's ice cream parlour just around the corner. Cottage was very child friendly, a cot, high chair and buggy all provided, along with DVDs and some toys. Janette was easy to contact throughout booking, replying immediately to all messages. Will be staying here again!!!!
Owner's reply: Sounds like you had a great holiday with us. We look forward to you booking again with us
A lovely bungalow in a perfect location close to the town and beach. Absolutely ideal for the dogs. Great Restaurants in the town as well.
“Fab place by the sea”
This is a great little bungalow by the sea! Perfect location for a weekend in Broadstairs. The place was so clean and had everything you would need for a weekend stay! The only thing I would say is this place is not great for 5 people. The z bed is a small very old camp bed with a very thin mattress which we actually didn't use and made up the setee instead. I would suggest this would only be ideal for 4 people.
“We would definitely stay here again”
We had a great holiday. the Boathouse was lovely and clean with everything we needed. Located very near Viking Beach, and a bus service along the coast, there is a convenience store just round the corner, and butchers, bakers, fruit shops and a Tesco within walking distance, and also restaurants, coffee shops and ice-cream parlours, though the street itself was quiet. There are a couple of reasonably private outside seating areas.
Location is everything in Broadstairs. This detached property in quiet location with a car parking space so close to Viking Bay beach and the town centre is a rare opportunity. Accommodation itself is comfortable and very well equipped. Would highly recommend this holiday rental.
Owner's reply: Thank you for taking time to do a review for me. I hope you will come back and stay with us again in the future.
“Fabulous bungalow, 5 mins from everything! A Broadstairs gem.”
Lovely bungalow, all mod cons, fantastic shower and extremely comfy bed. Nice lounge/diner and able to sit in the sun on the garden furniture outside. Nice little sun trap in the mornings. Very well looked after, clean and has everything you could need. Excellent location, access to beach, bandstand and mini golf within a few minutes. There's even a corner shop! High street not far either, very accessible. Had lovely doggie walks from Louisa Bay along to Dumpton Gap and could take her off lead on beach there. Found a lovely park too think it was King George VI memorial park. This houses the Italianate greenhouse there too, which was nicely unexpected. Great little kiosk in the park selling hot food and ice creams! Perfect! Would definitely stay here again. Thank you.
