The North Wales region
The cottage enjoys a secluded, rural setting away from the main road and provides wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. Set on a working farm (away from the farm buildings) you can go for a walk or a bike ride directly from your doorstep – a Snowdonia holiday at its best. Because there's no light pollution, it also offers an ideal spot for stargazing and when the sun comes out, there are plenty of opportunities to see rare birds from the patio, including the Red Kite.
The nearest shops can be found at Dolgellau (6 miles). You can also arrange Asda home delivery for your groceries if you prefer. There are numerous good restaurants in the area, including Dylanwand Da in Dolgellau, Bwyty Mawddach and Cross Foxes. For a more informal evening, Yr Eagles Inn (Tafarn Yr Eryrod) in Llanuwchllyn (5.5 miles) offers a lovely setting and excellent home cooked food.
Whilst you could easily sit back and do nothing but relax at the cottage, there is also a wide range of activities (detailed below) and attractions to keep you entertained throughout your stay in the cottage.
Some of the main attractions include Go Ape at Coed y Brenin, the Centre for Alternative Technology and Slate Caverns in Corris, as well as Corris Craft Centre and King Arthur's Labyrinth (a great family day out). Travel along the numerous narrow gauge railways, visit the RSPB Bird Reserve at Penmaenpool and explore the majestic castle at Harlech, a World Heritage site. The nearby Mawddach Estuary is another beautiful and largely unspoilt gem which is well worth a visit, as are the sandy beaches of Barmouth and Fairbourne at either side of the estuary when it reaches the sea (14 miles from the cottage).
