Location description from owner

The England region

The west country is associated with farming and agriculture, also the beauty of its countryside. Close to Bristol are the Mendip Hills with the famous Cheddar Gorge, and the smallest city in England, Wells, with its spectacular cathedral. There is also Glastonbury, renowned for it's natural healing, and the hill that featured in the London Olympic opening ceremony, Glastonbury Tor. Weston-super-Mare can easily be reached by car or train, and has a large sandy beach and a new pier, with theme park style rides. The neighbouring county of Devon with its pretty fishing villages and red sandy beaches can easily be reached by train or car (about 2 hours), and nature lovers will enjoy the Exmoor national park and Forest of Dean, both easily reached by car.

Bristol

Bristol is the largest city in the west of England, and has something for everyone. Whether you enjoy art, theatre, cinema, museums, shopping, fine dining or a good base to explore the surrounding area, then Bristol is an ideal choice. The city centre has two large shopping centres (Broadmead and the new Cabot Circus), and Clifton Village has a large selection of small, independent shops. The Harbourside has been completely redeveloped in recent years, and has many restaurants, bars and entertainment venues. Bristol is also home to the University of Bristol (one of the best in the UK), so a large student population keeps the city young and vibrant. The Arnolfini contemporary art centre has regular changing exhibitions, and the new M-Shed museum of Bristol history is well worth a visit. The apartment is situated in a very green suburb close to Clifton, which is tranquil and very attractive. However, it is a short drive or bus ride into the city centre (the bus stop is 1 minute walk)! The very large park, Durdham Downs, is just down the road, and this is ideal for running around, playing ball games, picnics, etc. Look out for the spectacular views of the Avon Gorge from the end of the park.

“Visiting eldest daughter in Bristol”

Reviewed 6 Aug 2016

Julian Court is an excellent accommodation. I travelled with my wife and 17 yr old daughter and we all really where impressed with the standard of apartment. Everything you need is supplied and the kitchen area is well fitted out including dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. The views from the living area are outstanding. The other residents within the apartment block are obviously very respectful and care for where they live, as noise levels are low and the block and surrounding areas are well maintained and tidy. Adrian ( the property owner) was very easy to work with, and kept in touch in the week before our visit, and during the day we where travelling. Julian Court is an apartment block, in a lovely residential area away from the main town of Bristol, but has an excellent bus service. Clifton village (a hip/ cool shopping/ eating area) is only 20 mins walk away. There are some very good pubs and restaurants in this area. The walk takes you through the Downs, which is a massive green area overlooking Bristol and the Avon Gorge. This area was full of families, joggers, kite flyers, picnickers etc enjoying the outdoors. Whiteladies Road is another area within 20 mins walk from Julian Court and has good shopping/ socialising facilities. We paid a visit to the Everyman cinema during our visit. This is the old Whiteladies Picture house, and it has been fully restored to its former glory. Staff bring food, drinks and alcohol to your luxury 2 & 3 seater settees as you enjoy the movie. If you don't fancy catching a film you can pop in for a coffee or a beer and have a nosey around. As you wander on down Whiteladies Road you will eventually turn on to Queens Road and the Bristol museum and Art Galleries and into Bristol centre. As Bristol is a city built around the Avon and the Gorge, it is hilly. The walk down from Julian Road to the centre taking in shops, sights, stopping for a coffee or beer would take a couple of hours and is all downhill (probably 50mins-1hr with no stopping). But we always used the bus to get back to apartment. The bus is the Number 4 service and the stop is about 20metres from the front of Julian Court. Because of the regular bus service and the locality of Whiteladies & Clifton areas, we as a family have not used our car during the week we have been here, which makes for a much more relaxing break.

“Beautiful views and quiet location”

Reviewed 7 Feb 2013

A top floor apartment with 2 large bedrooms a spacious longe with eating and very well appointed kitchen. Off street parking in a lovely location close to the Downs a bus ride from the city centre. Very clean and newly decorated this apartment makes a fantastic base for exploring Bristol. Just across the Downs are the Zoo, Clifton and the Suspension bridge. To the North Cribbs Causeway shopping centre is only a short drive away.

“A great choice - good location, spacious, well-stocked kitchen, and very organised/easy to deal with owner”

Reviewed 4 Feb 2013

We had an excellent time. The flat is in a perfect location - easy access to all that Bristol has to offer, but in a quiet residential area. The flat itsef is very spacious, and has fantastic views over to the Severn in the distance. Most impressive was how well-stocked the kitchen was. Unlike most holiday lets, it had all the thiings you need if you want to actually cook. And the owner was very good to deal with. He could be seen as strict in terms of asking people not to have loud parties, but because the flat is in a building with families living in it, we felt that was entirely reasonable (and we weren't intending a party anyway).
