Set in the North Herefordshire hamlet of Brierley, Serafina Lodge is an excellent base for exploring the wonderful counties of Herefordshire, Shropshire and Worcestershire. Nearby are the wonderful castle and gardens of Hampton Court (not the London one!) and the beautiful Queenswood Country Park, both 5 minutes away by car.

The medieval town of Ludlow is home to lively markets, food fairs and festivals. It has a fabulous mixture of independent shops, wonderful butchers, bakers and a fish shop. The Ludlow Food Centre, just out of town, is also well worth a visit. The Castle and Museum make a great day out and the Assembly Rooms host regular events including theatre, film, dance and stand-up comedy. Ludlow has lots of great places to eat, with renowned Michelin starred restaurants, pubs and bars in and around the town. North of Ludlow are the Shropshire Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty.

The city of Hereford is steeped in history. You can see this in its architecture; whether you’re strolling through narrow side streets or marvelling at the iconic Cathedral. More modern developments include the Old Market shopping and cinema complex. You can also browse for bargains in some of the city’s smaller shops and craft galleries. The city centre also hosts regular outdoor markets.

Herefordshire also has some quaint market towns to visit; Ledbury, Leominster, Bromyard, Kington, Hay-on-Wye and Ross-on-Wye are all lovely places to spend a day.

The border county of Herefordshire is steeped in history and legend. You will find castles and houses, gardens and farms which have changed very little over the centuries. You will find a decidedly slower pace of life here - the ideal start to a relaxing rural escape!
