Our holiday home is just a few steps away from all the amenities in the village, the bakery is just a stone's throw away together with restaurants and a nice wine bar. The river Moselle is about 30 meters from the front door. There is a ferry, moored about 50 meters away from the house, that will take you to the other side of the river, so you can ride your bike safely along bicycle paths and roads that have little or no traffic.

The house has a large garage suitable to store a trailer and/or bicycles. Parking can usually be found across the street in front of the house.

Bed linen, bath towels (1x bath and 1x hand towel per person) and a set of tea towels (2 per stay) are all provided free of charge.

Briedel

Briedel lies in the heart of the Middle Mosel directly in the romantic landscape of the Mosel loop around the Marienburg. It is a quiet wine village and holiday resort, on the edge of the Mosel. With its abundant sun-kissed vineyards and beautifully decorative half-timbered houses, of which 'The Old Winery" can be said to be one of the most beautiful specimens. Combined with its location on the Mosel River, Briedel must be considered one of the most idyllic places in the area.

There is much to do in this area, including walking and bike riding or even just sitting by the river and contemplating. If you do not have your bicyle with you, this is not a problem. In the village, just around the corner from our holiday home, you can hire bicycles from the bike shop at a very reasonable price. The area is very inviting for long walks and bicycle riding. There are miles of safe cycling paths, which are lined with tables and benches for you to stop and enjoy your packed lunches. The hospitality is warm and generous, just like the lovely summers usually experienced in the area.

Should you wake up in a less active mood on one of the days, you may choose to go on a boat trip. The pleasure/tourist boats stop in Briedel to pick up passengers daily to show them the delights of this area from the water. A trip to the Briedel internet site www.briedel.de will give you details of local attractions, available excursions, the area's various wine festivals and plenty more..

In the village is a lovingly furnished winegrowing museum which shows the development in the viticulture and will explain how the Mosel wine is made from the small clusters of grapes from the vine. You can also visit many of the vineyards to sample and buy the wines made by the vineyard owners and with all the festivals and of course the Christmas Markets as well, there is never a dull moment. At the same time we can say that there is a wonderful peace and tranquility which you may never have experienced anywhere else.

The Mosel area is beautiful and ready for you to explore during your stay. It is an area that is great for walking, cycling, eating, wine-tasting, resting, historic castles and a lot more... Only 3 km away and a 10 minute bicycle ride away from our holiday home on the Mosel, you will reach the lively village of Zell. With its fun and well thought out adventure swimming pool you can spend a day just relaxing and having fun there. If you do not feel like swimming, we encourage you to take a stroll along Zell's pretty streets, wine bars and shops.

Further afield there are the beautiful towns of Cochem (with its superbe castle overlooking the river) and Bernkastel Kues, and the wonderful ancient Roman city of Trier. Koblenz is just an hour away and many ofther beautiful towns and villages are there for you to explore. Apart from all its natural beauty, this area is also known for its thermal spa facilities. So if you feel that after a hectic and active time you need to get away from the hustle and buzzle around you, you may consider a visit to Bad Bertrich, one of the most unique and picturesque spas in the Mosel area at only 20 km from Briedel. This well-known spa is supplied by volcanic water from the Eifel mountain range in the vicinity. The benefits of bathing in thermal spas are well known and a visit to this spa or one of the others in the area will leave you feeling relaxed, restored and revitalised.

“Not what we expected”

Reviewed 2 Oct 2016

From the description of the house, we had expected to enjoy the view of the Mosel whilst sitting on the terrace - this is not possible because of the main road that lies between the house and the river. The second bathroom was very small and situated under the stairs. It was a good location for sightseeing, disappointing that the local restaraunt had closed down.

We are very sorry to read that the description of the house created false expectations for you. We shall read through the description again and change wherevever it needs changing so this will not happen again. It is the last thing we want is to disappoint our guests. The house has beautiful views over the river Mosel in all three the bedrooms on the first floor, but indeed not from the terrace outside the front of the house. From here you just have the beautiful views of the vinyards and the rest of the beautiful surroundings across from the house. The second bathroom is small and is mainly used as a downstairs toilet. People who have children however use the bath to bathe their children or let them play in the bath while they are nearby on the same floor. What the closing down of the local restaurant, that is something that is beyond our controle. We have only recently found out ourselves. There was however another local restaurant called "Zum musikalischen Wirt" you could have used. Once again we are sorry that you were disappointed with your stay. We have taken note of your comments and shall adjust the description where needed.
