Location description from owner

The England region

Located on the stunning Jurassic coast half way between the arty bustling market town of Bridport and the ancient seaside town of Lyme Regis (12 mins drive in each direction). The cottage itself backs onto National Trust land leading to the coastal path affording the property unbeatable views of Dorset's rolling countryside and sea.

As well as the remote St Gabriels beach that can be walked to directly from the cottage, there are numerous other sandy and pebble beaches all within a 10 - 15 minute drive and all great for swimming weather permitting. There are two 18 hole golf courses locally, Olympic sailing facilities in nearby Portland, and numerous historical country houses well worth visiting. In both Lyme Regis and West bay there are high speed rib rides and mackerel fishing trips as well as scuba diving which is very popular in the area due to the number of offshore wrecks.

It is a walkers paradise, the best walks in the region, possibly in Britain, being accessed directly from the doorstep of the property.

Bridport is famous for it's vintage shops and art scene as well as the incredibly popular twice weekly street market that attracts visitors far and wide. 20 minutes away is the town of Honiton famous for antiques.

Bridport

There really is no shortage of outdoor activities and sights in West Dorset. For those who care for a more relaxed pace during their holiday, just sitting on the terrace watching the birds of prey hover overhead and the fox and deer come up to the garden fence can be breathtaking. The vast expanse of sky infront of the cottage makes for amazing star gazing.

“Amazing property on the Jurassic Coast”

Reviewed 30 Apr 2013

We had such a fab holiday here! The house is situated at the end of a quiet lane and is the last house before National Trust land that sweeps down to the sea, the views are unsurpassed! The house itself is gorgeous and very contemporary- I stayed with my parents, my brothers family and our children and there was plenty of space for everyone. There are 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms and the open plan living area downstairs is simply stunning with sea views that make this house so very special. The owners obviously have a keen eye for contemporary art too with lovely touches everywhere. The children (and adults) were permanently in the warm swimming pool and plenty of G and T's were consumed on the terrace. From the property you can walk across the National Trust land down to the sea at St Gabriel's or up to Golden Cap if you are feeling energetic (its the highest point on the stunning Jurassic coast). Morecombelake is a little village about 4 miles from the bustling town of Bridport which is well worth a visit especially on a Saturday when they have a great market in the town. Be sure to visit The Stable (at the back of The Bull Hotel) for great pizzas which were a real hit with the children. There is also an amazing farm shop a few hundred yards from the property on the main road in Morecombelake which is an ideal place for stocking up on local produce. I can't recommend this property enough for a holiday in beautiful Dorset, it is fantastic and I for one can't wait to book my next holiday.
