Description

Railway Cottage is a very unusual property and offers a unique, magical experience. It will appeal to those looking for something different. Set in a beautiful garden just 500 metres from the beach on the stunning Jurassic coast.

The main living area is a 1905 GWR railway carriage to which a bedroom, dressing room and bathroom have been added. The carriage was brought to it's final resting place in 1927 and was, for many years and family home.

The cottage has a fully equipped kitchen. Fresh cotton linens and towels are included. TV,DVD, CD player, radio and iPod dock provide an alternative to outdoor activities.

It is annexed to the owners property but completely self-contained and private.

A short walk takes you to the dog friendly beach where spectacular sunsets can be enjoyed over a BBQ and glass of wine.

Plenty of walks available from the front door, cliff paths in both directions, West Bay to the East and Seatown, Charmouth and Lyme Regis

Location description from owner

The England region

Bridport

The Little village of Eype sits on the Jurassic Coast, with it's own beach it is ideal for those looking for a quiet retreat near the sea.
For those of you who followed the series, the scene of the murder in the TV blockbuster 'Broadchurch' was filmed in Eype!
Just one and a half miles outside the funky little town of Bridport, there are plenty of restaurants, arts events and shopping nearby. On Saturdays and Wednesdays the main streets of Bridport are filled with colourful market stalls selling everything from organic vegetables to vintage cloths.
If you are a walker there are wonderful cliff top walks to enjoy as well as the hills and meadows of the surrounding countryside.
Eype boasts a pub and a hotel and, in the summer months, a small shop selling basics.
A half hour's walk along the cliff path will take you to West Bay where there is a little harbour, shops and cafes to enjoy local produce.
A short drive Eastwards will take you to the Swannery and the Tropical Gardens at Abbotsbury, the bustling seaside town of Weymouth and the County Town of Dorchester. We are also near the home of Thomas Hardy, on of Dorset's famous figures.
Or you could just sit outside the Terrace at Railway Cottage and enjoy a glass of wine and a good book!

“Fantastic tranquil retreat would highly recommend”

Reviewed 7 Jul 2016

Such a lovely place to stay. Quiet so relaxing home from home, but better. This beautiful railway carriage has everything you need and situated in tranquil garden near the beach. Great place to stay and relax recharge batteries . Would highly recommend . We will certainly be back .

“if you're looking for an alternative form of accommodation without sacryficing comfort then do give this a try .en”

Although not the best time of year to be staying in this delightful area my enjoyment was enhanced by staying in this converted railway carriage . The carriage was excellently equipped , comfortable bed and surrounded by railway memorabilia . the little wood burner made for a cosy evening with an alternative being a visit to the pub which was a 10 minute walk ,providing good food and local beers. I would enthusiastically recommend a visit . Rose Marie the owner is a delight
