Location description from owner

The Nouvelle-Aquitaine region

Nestled in the heart of the Deux-Sevres region of Western France. Known as one of France's 'Best Kept Secrets'

The Deux-Sevres is the tranquil, laid back, unspoilt department of the Poitou-Charentes, the area has a mild micro-climate and is deemed to be the second sunniest region in France, benefiting from the warmth of the La Rochelle basin. It is filled with lazy winding rivers and is a region truly dedicated to relaxing,

Beautiful Countryside in all directions and traffic free roads to go and explore.

Deux-Sevres is bordered by Charente Maitime with its beautiful beaches - La Rochelle, Royan and the Ile d'Oleron and the Vendee with Sables d'Olonnes and many other seaside resorts dotted along the coastline

The Marais Poitevin (Little Venice) is a short drive away with its winding canals and waterways - you can hire a boat for the day and explore.

You could also make a visit to Futurscope near Poitiers.
The Deux-sevres region has countless places of interest and visitor attractions to suit everyone.

The area is steeped in history offers unspoilt landscapes and some of Europe's most imposing Tumuli, Romanesque churches, chateaux and museums. The quiet roads will lead you to unexpected places, rivers, lakes, forests, historic towns, small villages with colourful markets and during the summer months, a range of festivals and events.

The wonderful nearby coastline and beautiful islands of the Atlantic are all under 2 hours away.

This region is a great place to take a Cycling holiday with virtually traffic free roads and beautiful scenery.

In this part of France riders of Motor Cycles are welcomed, any traffic on the road will move out of the Motor Bike's way and gladly let you pass, and with sleeping arrangements for 14 - this would be a great get together place for a Motor Bike Club or a group of motor bike enthusiasts.

Bressuire

St Porchaire is on the borders of Bressuire

The Deux-Sèvres department in the Poitou-Charentes region in Western France. .

Poitou-Charentes is a sunny region in south western France best known for its medieval art and architecture, and as the birthplace of cognac. It is the region directly north of Bordeaux, and directly south of the Loire Valley.

Bressuire has 2 chateaux with a park with a play area including swings and climbing frames in the grounds in front.

There is also an International Karting Circuit and a Large Swimming Pool a short drive away.

In St Porchaire, all the services and businesses of small town life are within walking distance: supermarket with news stand, bakery, Hairdresser, Chemist and butcher.

Activities and Festivities

There is a Grand Prix through the streets of Bressuire - historic vehicles come from all over France and beyond to compete - entry is free. Normally held on the last weekend of June

There is also The Highland Games with Scottish and Irish Sports as well as Irish Dancing and Scottish Bagpipes to entertain you. Normally held the first weekend in July.

Other very local attractions include mussel and escargots festivals, in July and August.

The Office de Tourisme in Bressuire is open five days a week, and offers information on current events in the entire department (Deux-Sevres, 79).

Many other small cities and chateaux nearby invite daytrips of all descriptions, and for all tastes. For example, the city of Saumur, one of the most visited sites of the Loire Valley, and well-known for its excellent wines, is 45 minutes northeast.

The towns of Bressuire, Mauleon, Maulevrier, Cholet, Les Epesses, Thouars, Parthenay, Montreuil-Bellay, and Doue-la-Fontaine are all a similar or shorter distance away, and merit a visit, each for their own reason.
