The Devon region

North Devon is one of the most beautiful regions of England with stunning golden beaches, dramatic rugged coastline and picture postcard villages, This part of the coast is renowned for superb surfing conditions, and good transport links make it one of the most popular areas for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life further afield for the chilled out surf lifestyle.

Driftwood is located in the centre of Braunton village about 5 miles from Croyde.

Braunton is an ancient village with a long and distinguished past and older parts of the village still boast picturesque narrow streets and cob walled cottages. It claims to be the largest village in Britain and attracts many visitors. It is therefore able to boast an array of excellent shops, delicatessens, art galleries, bars and bistros.

Braunton has a great position, being close to the beautiful beaches of Croyde, Saunton, Putsborough and Woolacombe, as well as having easy access to Exmoor, which is less than 10 miles away. It also plays host to the UKs only Biosphere Reserve, which includes Braunton Burrows (also a Site of Special Scientific Interest). Here you will find one of the largest sand dune systems in Britain, which is home to a range of rare species of plants and animals.

In addition Braunton is home to a 'great field', one of only three such open fields in England surviving from the medieval period.

Barnstaple is only 6 miles away and provides good shopping facilities ranging from top name stores, to boutique shops, to the daily Pannier Market.

"Fantastic cottage in Braunton with thoughtful and helpful owners"

This cottage is fantastic! We only stayed for 3 nights as we were down in the area for a wedding at Saunton Sands. This wasn't a problem for Phil, and he was very helpful in accommodating our short stay. The cottage is beautifully decorated, very clean and equipped with everything you need (and more). It's very spacious for 4 people with lovely areas to sit and relax in the living room and the courtyard outside. The beds are really comfortable too. In terms of location it's ideally located for the nearby Saunton Sands beach and Croyde Bay which are both worth a visit. We were moving on down to Cornwall for a few days after our stay here but were sad to leave - it really felt like a home from home and would love to come back and stay again!

"Beautiful house in a great location!"

My wife and I spent a great week with our two children at this lovely house in Braunton. The property has been beautifully modernised and has everything you need to enjoy a relaxing holiday. It is also in a great location, in a quiet street but only a stone's throw to the centre of Braunton which has great shops and restaurants and is near the Tarka trail, brilliant for bike riding. Braunton is well located for numerous nearby beaches in beautiful North Devon and the owners have thoughtfully included a comprehensive guide of things to do in the local area. For the wetter days there are lots of games at the house which our son certainly enjoyed! We definitely will be recommending the house to our friends and hope to visit again in the near future.

"Best cottage we have ever stayed in"

We stayed in this lovely cottage and it was like staying in a 5* hotel, everything you need was catered for. The owner had left notes on everthing that was a great help. They even will let guests have use of their own personel bikes this includes kids bikes. On arrival they had left a nice bottle of wine for us. The cottage is located in the heart of town, and you are 5 mins walk from all the shops. In the town they have a fish and chip shop that serves the best fish and chips I have ever had. The cottage is also only a short drive to 5 beaches, we tried them all amnd all were clean, some are easier access than others, but all are great. We were lucky we had a whole week of great sunny weather, even if we didn't still lots to do with the kids around the area. We will be staying here again in the future.

"Excellent cottage, home from home."

Accommodation immaculate and very comfortable, Quality fixtures and fittings, everything we needed for a stress free rental. Nice location close to local amenities and resturants and excellent days out just a short distance away. Warm and welcoming - we would definitely visit again!

"Truly a home from home holiday retreat"

Driftwood located in the hub of Braunton village is a perfectly presented holiday home. The owners have certainly made every effort to make their guests stay "a home from home" experience.,From a well equipped roomy kitchen,a cosy fire for chilly evenings in the comfy lounge to two relaxing bedrooms with superb double beds. The patio is most attractive and euipped with everything needed for a warm sunny .evening We enjoyed the beaches close by which are famous for surfing, walking or spending the day relaxing with a picnic and the family. Hiring bicycles locally is great fun with the Tarka trail close by-so good for buildng up an appetite for a traditional cream tea! On a future visit we intend to explore Exmoor and all that has to offer---can't wait!

"A beautiful, tradition cottage in the heart of Braunton"

Stayed in Phil and Justine's cottage in October 2012. We got very lucky on two fronts, the weather was a unseasonal 23 degrees and the cottage with stayed in was brilliant. Very clean and tidy, with every need catered for . Your very close to all facilities with a nice pub around the corner.

"Driftwood holiday cottage is perfect, well catered for to make your holiday enjoyable."

Driftwood cottage is the perfect holiday has been well thought out and caters for every home comfort even down to the small details to make your stay like home from home. We stayed a week in October and really enjoyed it . There are lots of places to visit nearby, and if you don't drive the local bus service is very good and is also very amenable. The shops are a few minutes away with lots of local foods. There are lots of eateries to choose from within walking distance. Even a Bistro right on the doorstep if you don't fancy cooking. We could recommend this cottage and we know you won't be disappointed. We will definitely be visiting the cottage again.
