Getting around

Rutland is England's smallest county so everything is close by. Regular bus services from Oakham travel around the Rutland Water and the villages. Cycle paths exist around Rutland Water and around much of the county, bikes can be hired very easily. Direct trains run from Oakham to Melton Mowbray, Leicester and Birmingham going westward and eastward trains travel to Stamford, Peterborough, Cambridge and Stanstead Airport.

Interaction with guest

Our housekeeper lives in the village and will be your local point of contact. We, as owners, are always available by phone or email and we have several local tradesmen we can call on should we need to. This is our only rental property, in addition we use the property regularly ourselves. Hopefully we can as a result present the property to you in an excellent state of repair and cleanliness.

Very Good

“nice cottage, helpful owner”

Reviewed 29 Nov 2012

Mouse Cottage is well positioned close to Oakham and is well equipped and should be comfortable. I say 'should be' because, unfortunately, the heating and hot water packed up during our stay and it was freezing! fortunately the owner was understanding and helpful, and refunded our charge when we finally gave up and moved out. Don't worry - he said the boiler was being replaced so future guests shouldn't suffer the same way.

Owner's reply: We are really sorry that our guests stay was spoilt by a fault on the boiler, a full refund was the least we could do in the circumstances. The burner unit has been replaced and all is now working perfectly. Mouse Cottage is cosy again. Marilyn and Richard

“What a lovely cottage in a great village in a fantastic area.”

Reviewed 6 Sep 2011

Our recent stay at Mouse cottage was a joy. The cottage is equiped with everything you need for a break in the quiet countryside. Rutland water is a must to visit and is not far from the cottage. Oakham is close to Braunston take a visit to the Grainstore Brewery (next to the train station) or just wonder round the small shops. We look forward to our next visit to Mouse Cottage and another relaxing break.

Owner's reply: We are very pleased our guests enjoyed their stay at Mouse Cottage and that they enjoyed the many delights of Rutland and Rutland Water. We look forward to welcoming them back again in the near future.

“Dream Cottage in Delightful Village”

Reviewed 24 May 2011

This is an excellent cottage. It is very comfortable and clean with two good bedrooms and a downstairs bath/shower room. There is a suntrap garden just right for a bbq.Ample information is given about the large number of places to visit in the area.Rutland water is nearby with its wide range of outdoor activities including ,walking, cycling, birdwatching. The village has two very good pubs with real ale and tasty food. The area has a variety of interesting pubs and restaurants. It is a very good place for a romantic break or an outdoor activity holiday. We were reluctant to leave and look forward to our next visit.

Owner's reply: We were delighted to receive this review and pleased that our visitors were so happy with Mouse Cottage and our village. We hope that they will stay again in the future!
