“A place to unwind and relax and get away from it all”
The house is lovely and big with lots of games, dvd's and loads of books all in English to read while you are there. The pool is lovely and was well used for the week that we were there as we had great weather. The house is cleaned by Andy and Dawn who greeted us to say that they couldn't leave us fresh bread as they normally do as the previous guest had left the house so messy it had taken them all day to clean it- so they left us two bottles of wine instead! The bedding was lovely and clean but the oven glove had previous cheesy pizza on it. We didn't have any instructions on how to work anything as the owner emailed all the information four days before our booking but sadly that meant we didn't get any of the info until after our stay as we were already staying elsewhere in France. I would ask that a file with all the information is left at the house as there were a few annoyances in that we couldn't work the TV downstairs so missed all the Olympics and didn't know how to turn off the pool alarm as it was going off in the morning and when no one was in the pool- must be very annoying for the three French neighbours! Plenty of room for us as a family of five and my parents in law too- who shared a drink with Alain the neighbour before we left. All in all a lovely place to retreat and rewind. I personally wouldn't have wanted to spend a full fortnight there a week was plenty as it's near a working farm the flies are constant and quite a nuisance. Brantome is lovely but again the restaurants all seem to serve similar menus though we did love the Mexican Flamingo Restaurant and ate there twice during our stay. The voie verte cycle route from Thiviers to St Pardoux la Riviere (17kms) is a must for cycling and isn't far about 20 minutes away and we visited St Jean de Cole during that experience- it's a disused railway line and is great for families.
“Welcoming, relaxing and comfortable house in beautiful surroundings”
We were a group of eight, comprising two grandparents, our daughter and son in law and their two children, ages six and four. We all had a wonderful holiday in this lovely house at Pontarnaud. From the moment of opening the front door we felt welcomed and comfortable. The generous 'food parcel' gift of bread, cheese, wine, eggs etc was much appreciated. The house is very spacious, stylish and clean and the gardens and patio area are a delight: secluded and very well looked after. The pool is pristine and was enjoyed by the whole family every day. The surrounding area is beautiful and I think maybe a little quieter in High Summer than the Southern Dordogne. We found plenty to do. Brantome is a beautiful little town with many places to eat, some overlooking the river and family canoeing seemed very popular. We also visited even more beautiful St Jean de Cole and the castle at Bordeilles, which was a great hit with our grandchildren. However the house at Pontarnaud was so nice we were often happy to stay put! The owner always responded promptly to emails when booking and prior to the holiday sent very detailed and helpful information about the property and surrounding area. Thank you to the James family for their hospitality. We would not hesitate to recommend this property.
Owner's reply: Thank you so much for being great guests, Andy and Fiona
“Great for young children”
A lovely location adjacent to a dairy farm, a well provisioned hamper a nice welcoming touch. Room to spread out the 4 grand children and the pool a unexpected bonus so early in April. No shortage of interesting villages & towns to visit only a relatively short drive away, an important consideration with little ones.
“Best holiday house we have ever been to.”
Fantastic house everything you could want, so well equipped inside and out. lovely area and close to some very nice places to eat drink or just visit. Wonderful welcome basket very much appreciated. We all had a great time and we were a mixed bunch ages ranging from 16 to 73.
Owner's reply: Thank you so much for your review, and being excellent guests - please come again!
“The perfect property for a relaxing holiday with every amenity you could ever want or need.”
We stayed at Pontarnaud for one week. We received full details about every aspect of the property before we set out on our travels down to exact location of replacement bulbs, which set high expectations which I am delighted to say the property more than lived up to. We arrived late evening to a wonderful welcome gift that helped us settle in and feel at home on the first night. Every thing you could need was provided down to an excellent selection of books, CDs., indoor and outdoor games. The property although close to 3 other properties was very private with mature hedges and trees as it's boundary. It was very well maintained and decorated with an excellent layout for sharing families even though there was only two of us. The gardens were mature and well kept with the added bonus of a good sized pool. The house was on a side road only 10 minutes drive from the beautiful town of Bramtome which has cafes, restaurants, shops, museums, canoeing on the river. We loved everything about the property, especially it's secluded location but within minutes of Brantome. We will definitely go back and would highly recommend it to either couples or families for their holiday.
