The Dordogne region
The northern Dordogne is a delightful area of southwest France, very rural and quiet, but with plenty to see and do whatever your interest. It is a well wooded area of rolling countryside that is forever green.
Warm summers and mild spring and autumns make this an ideal location for a restful holiday.
We are located halfway between Brantome, (the Venice of the Perigorde) and Riberac, a typical French market town with it's mix of cafés, restaurants and a busy market.
Bourdeilles with it's chateau and castle sitting above the river is just 15 mins. away and the river can be explored by hired canoe.
Sightly further afield are the lakes at Jemaye, the monolithic church at Aubeterre, or the caves at Villars amongst many other attractions.
Wherever you drive the quite roads and peaceful scenery are just a delight.
Small family run restaurants can be found in abundance in the towns and villages throughout the area, and a good lunch with wine for less than €13 can while away a good 2 hours on a sunny afternoon

"Absolutely Spot On"
Cannot find anything to fault at all. Both properties are immaculate and nothing has been forgotten, the attention to detail is great. The properties are in a lively quiet area, and the view from the pool is fabulous. Trevor and Chris are very helpful and full of useful information and tips. There is nothing not to like, and everything to like, we did not want to leave.
Thank you so much for your review, although I think you perhaps meant 'lovely quiet area' rather than 'lively quiet area' As peace and quiet is what we have here for an away from it all holiday.

"Perfect in every way and all that we hoped for and more besides"
The Gite was a home from home , it was comfortably furnished & the overall feel was warm and inviting. A great amount of care has been taken to maximise the natural surroundings of the property & this Gite is ideally suited for anyone wishing to have a relaxing break in this part of Dordogne. The hosts Trevor & Christine are a lovely couple, who where very helpful, informative & have a skill for providing just the right amount of help and advice without being intrusive. Within the property information and guidance relating to brochures for the local and the wider areas covering amenities, markets , shops, restaurants & places of interest etc are very comprehensive. We would not hesitate to recommend this Gite to friends & family. We would have no hesitation in returning.

A beautifully renovated comfortable gite. Location was exceptional (quite remote, so car required). Hosts were everything we could have wanted...thank you Trevor and Chris. We thoroughly enjoyed the local area and thanks to the weather the spectacular pool.

"A Great Gite"
Our preferred type of holiday is to stay in villas, preferably with pools. So we have had lots of experiences, good and bad! Without question the stables was the best equipped, tastefully decorated, tranquil place we have ever stayed. The owners, Trevor & Chris live on site and always available to offer advice and help, if needed, without being intrusive. The property is perfectly located for sampling the local culture, site seeing or just getting away from it all relaxing in and around the exclusive swimming pool. We recommend the stables to anyone, who like us appreciate the finer things in life.

"Beautiful Gite in a beautiful location"
Having read other reviews, we had high expectations of The Stables. We were not disappointed as the place exceeded our expectations in every way. The building has been beautifully renovated by the owners retaining many original features but with modern facilities. The location is extremely tranquil with stunning views of the countryside. The owners, Trevor and Chris, could not have beeen more helpful. Their attention to detail and local knowledge were very much appreciated. We look forward to returning there in the future.

We could not have chosen better and were delighted upon our arrival at this lovely gem of a gite! The accommodation was excellent and wonderful hosts Trevor & Chris had thought of everything possible to make the stay comfortable, trouble free and enjoyable. We would most certainly book again, thoroughly spoilt with this one! Well done and thank you Trevor & Chris.
Thank you for your comments, we are so pleased when our guests enjoy our home. We certainly enjoy welcoming people here to this beautiful area.

"Lovely, quiet location. Marvellous, friendly owners."
We were welcomed by the owners who showed us the gite, they are a lovely couple who made us feel very much at home (including the cat). We had a really nice evening with them during our stay. They can also give you good tips for visiting the local area and there are plenty of leaflets in a folder to pick and choose where to visit. The property is clean and fresh with everything that is needed for a relaxing holiday. The kitchen is well stocked with all that is needed for home cooking. Great location with views of the Perigord. There is a lovely splash pool to cool off in when the sun is hot and some nice tracks to follow for walking. The local shops are easy to find and there are plenty of supermarkets within a 10-15 minute car trip to do your shopping. Everything was to like and there was nothing not to like. A trip to Oradour sur Glane is well worth the journey
Thank you for your comments, we do try to do all we can to make our guests welcome and help them enjoy their stay with us.

"Marvellous Gite in peaceful setting."
We stayed in the Stables gite for 2 weeks. It was nicely furnished wth comfy seats and bed. It was very hot when we were there, however the tiled flooring throughout helped keep the gite cool. The recently built pool is also great to help cool off. The area was very peaceful without being isolated, with lots of opportunities to do local walks, and the roads and paths round about are good for cycling using the bikes from the gite. Trevor and Chris made us feel very welcome, and were happy to offer advice on eating out and places to visit. Nothing was to much trouble, they truly could not have been nicer. They have put a lot of work into their home and gites and it really does show. This is the best gite we have ever stayed in.
We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and made good use of the bikes we have. We can't control the weather, but in all other areas we try our best for you to have a great holiday.

"Excellent Rural retreat"
Superb Gite and buildings set in wonderful plot of land on hillside. Rural location and needs some thought with food and supplies, no "little walk" to a corner shop - adds to the charm but could catch you out especially with sunday trading and such forth. Pool is a great addition and staying at this gite exceeded our expectations and will definately do more Gite trips and hopefully be as good as Trevor and Chris's. Highly reccomended and well worth a stay short or long.
Thank you for your review, Yes we do warn our guests to be prepared regarding the Sunday shopping situation here, but as you say it can add to the rural charm.
