Brancaleone

The Jewel of the Sea is located in the Grecanica area, where Greek immigrants left the mark of their culture.Brancaleone and the surrounding communities, in which the old Grecanio language is still spoken, has a great historical and cultural significance in the Mediterranean area. It is one of the birthplaces of European civilization and thought. Some of the most beautiful, ancient villages in Italy are here; Bova, Palizzi, Bruzzano Zeffirio, Pentedattilo, Galliciano, the restored village Brancaleone Superiore; they offer visitors wonderful walks, summer festivals, tasty local produce, and many cultural events. For example, „Paleariza”, one of the most important music festivals in southern Italy, or the milestone in Italian and international jazz festivals, the „Roccella Jazz Festival” and the„ Magna Grecia Theatre”. All this and more is available in the beautiful setting of Calabrian, archaeological sites. Numerous archaeological sites, caves of Byzantine monks, Norman churches; these traces of the past are part of the scenery and belong to some of the most rare and renowned cultural heritage sites in Italy. The many museums in the region have treasures from these eras, for instance, the National Museum of Reggio Calabria, in which the famous bronze statue of Riace, the glorious warrior, is on display. The famous actor and author, Gabriele D’Annunzio, described the beach promenade in Reggio Calabria asthe most beautiful strech of water in Italy. From here, there is an unforgettable view of Mount Etna and theSicilian coastline.
