If you want a peaceful location, with lots of outdoor space, dark night skies, and a 20 minute drive to some of the best beaches in the uk...then this is the property for you. We have hosted many family holidays, celebrations, birthday gatherings and party weekends (out of season) The three cottages sleep up to 7, 5, and 2, so a total of 14 plus cots. There is a flower-filled courtyard and parking right outside plus access to the lovely gardens and tennis court. 200 metres away is our own mini nature reserve, our 6 acre meadow and 2 lakes, one for fishing, a bbq and a fire pit is available along with a cabin to make yourselves a cuppa in. The coast path, running the entire way around the south west peninsula is within 7 miles and offers spectacular walking. The Tamar Lakes are 3 miles away with kayaking, wind surfing and bird watching. The Tarka Trail, an off-road cycle track, is 7 miles away. Location description from owner

The England region

Lake Villa Holiday Cottages and Hidden Lakes are in North Devon, but lie just 3 miles from the Cornwall border. The whole of the North Devon/West Cornwall coast is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty as well as a World Biosphere Reserve. The coastline is spectacular with high cliffs and blankets of wild flowers. There are rocky coves and long sandy beaches - great for surfing - as well as little fishing harbours and seaside towns to explore. There is one of the largest sand dune systems in Europe at Braunton and Northam Burrows. The South West Coast path is easily accessible and around 80 miles of it can be reached whilst holidaying with us. Inland the scenery is green and verdant with farm fields and flower-filled hedgerows around small hamlets and villages with ancient churches and friendly village inns. At night the sky is filled with stars as the area has almost no light pollution (there is even an observatory in the village). For a truly peaceful, rural retreat you cannot beat it.

For families there are lots of outdoor activities such as wind surfing, kayaking, archery, zorbing, swimming and cycling on the Tarka Trail, all close by. There are also three quality adventure/animal parks: the Milky Way, the Big Sheep and Atlantis, all within 12 miles. And there is always our 6 acre meadow in which to let off steam!

Bradworthy

Bradworthy's carnival takes place on Bank Holiday Monday at the end of August. There is an arts festival in the Barnstaple area in June and St Peters Fair in Holsworthy in July. Live music can be seen in various local pubs including the Bradworthy Inn once a month or so.

The Tamar Lakes are 3 miles away. The upper lake has many water sports available as well as a cycle/walking path right around it. Lower Tamar Lake is a nature reserve with pleasant walks and a bird hide.
The Eden Project with its huge glass biomes can be reached in just over an hour. Other nearer gardens include RHS Rosemoor, Docton Mill and Marwood Hill. There are two National Trust properties within easy reach, Arlington Court and Lanhydrock. Exmoor, Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor can all be reached within a 1 hour drive and are great for exploring for adults and children alike. Tintagel Castle and Okehampton Castle are also great places to visit. Okehampton Castle lies close to another off-road cycle path, the Granite Trail.

“Perfection - Hard to match”

Reviewed 18 Mar 2013

14 adults, 5 children and 3 dogs rented all properties for a long weekend to celebrate a 70th. birthday - not an easy number to accommodate. However there was not one grumble and Lesley and Pete are the perfect hosts - nothing too much trouble but were not intrusive. The children loved exploring the garden, playing tennis, fishing the lakes and visiting Bude beach. We used Swallow Barn as the main base where we all sat down and ate together.Although weather was bitterly cold the central heating was on from 7a.m. until 10p.m. so we were toastie! Plenty of crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils for a large number of guests and dishwashers were appreciated! The children all want to return here for our next get together. Thankyou Lesley and Pete for such brilliant hospitality and at such reasonable prices per. head. Spectacular area for sightseeing or comfortable accommodation to laze in with an amazing assortment of reading material on the shelves.

Owner's reply: Thanks Jill for taking the time and trouble to put a review on. We were delighted to welcome your family and friends here and were only too pleased that, with one or two extra beds, we managed to fit them all in! I do hope the children suceed in persuading you to come again! Lesley & Pete
